The Advanced Filmmaking program is an Ontario College Graduate Certificate program which builds upon the students previous diploma/degree skills by providing opportunities to work in cross-functional teams to create both narrative and documentary films, television productions, and other media. All phases of digital filmmaking will be experienced, including pre-production, production, and post-production. Students will collaborate with students in other College programs (television, acting, fashion, multimedia, music industry arts) in the creation of digital media products.

Learning Outcomes
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

• Create narrative and documentary films, television productions, and other media (such as webcasts) that illustrate the application of aesthetic and theoretical principles of filmmaking;
• Identify and develop stories and scripts for narrative and documentary films and other media, for both general and specific audiences;
• Plan and apply appropriate pre-production techniques to prepare for the efficient and cost-effective production of narrative and documentary films and other media;
• Produce and direct narrative and documentary films and other media to commercial, technical, legal and ethical standards by working independently or in a crew;
• Operate digital cameras, audio, editing and lighting equipment during the creation of documentary and narrative films and other media.
• Produce market-ready narrative and documentary films and other media by collaborating with post-production experts;
• Plan media-marketing/distribution strategies for a variety of venues and formats;
• Lead co-workers and others in all phases of film development, through the application of superior communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem solving skills.

The Photography program provides training for students in the professional aspects of the photography industry. Digital SLR instruction will prepare the student for work in photojournalism, architectural, advertising, fashion, product, industrial, public relations, portrait, and wedding photography. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of video and audio capture using DSLR cameras. Production work includes instruction in black and white and colour using digital printing systems. This program integrates the use of high-end laptops, digital imaging and video editing software in the curriculum.

• Select and use appropriate photographic equipment and techniques to capture quality images of a variety of subjects, in studio and on location.
• Use post-production techniques to edit and finish images in formats that meet industry standards and the needs of the client.
• Create lighting schemes using appropriate techniques, equipment and accessories to produce quality images that meet the needs of the client.
• Employ design elements and principles to plan and create visually sound images.
• Complete all work in a professional and ethical manner and in accordance with legal requirements applicable to the photography industry.
• Develop strategies to maintain currency with evolving photography trends, issues, technologies and industry practices to enhance work performance and guide professional development.
• Select and use digital asset management tools and strategies to catalogue, store, back up, retrieve and archive images and prints.
• Use business planning and administrative skills to support and maintain a photography business.
• Use a variety of marketing tools and strategies that effectively promote photographic products and services.
• Develop and present a professional portfolio that illustrates one's creative approach and image conception, capture, editing and production skills

Fanshawe College’s Public Relations - Corporate Communications program is designed to prepare college and university graduates to enter the exciting and challenging world of communications. Students will hone their writing and presentation skills, learn the latest digital communication and web design techniques, and analyze public relations and ethics challenges.

A second-term field placement allows students to put these new skills to work. Students will make business contacts through professional associations and complete course work with a community focus. The curriculum is current, community-minded, and developed by professional communicators.

The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program provides students with the opportunity to study subject areas relevant to health career programs at Fanshawe College and to instill an appreciation of the professional roles, responsibilities and academic requirements of health care disciplines. The goal of the program is to prepare students for their chosen health career program.

Learning Outcomes 
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

• Examine biological concepts, processes and systems of the human body, including genetics and epigenetics, as well as the structure, function and properties of the molecules of life, cells, tissues and organ systems in relation to homeostasis, physical development and health.
• Examine concepts, processes and systems of chemistry, including atomic and molecular structure; quantities in chemical reactions; solutions and solubility; acids and bases; as well as organic chemistry and biochemistry in relation to health and the human body.
• Solve numeric problems and interpret data related to health sciences and other science-related fields using mathematical concepts, including algebra and probability, along with descriptive and inferential statistics.
• Use health sciences and other science-related language and terminology appropriately to communicate clearly, concisely, and correctly in written, spoken, and visual forms.
• Prepare a personal strategy and plan for academic, career and professional development in the health sciences or other science-related fields.
• Investigate health sciences and science-related questions, problems and evidence using the scientific method.

The Paralegal program is designed to provide students with the specialized knowledge and skills required to work as licensed Paralegals in Ontario. It is designed for those seeking licensing in accordance with the Law Society Act and under the Law Society of Ontario to become a practicing paralegal and for those who wish to upgrade their skills and broaden their areas of knowledge and expertise in authorized areas of practice.

Provincial legislation requires Paralegals to be licensed to practice in the areas of Small Claims Court, Provincial Offences, Summary Conviction Offences and Administrative Tribunals in Ontario. This program has been accredited by the LSUC and designed in accordance with LSUC curriculum requirements and core competencies and provides training in those areas in which a Licensed Paralegal may legally practice.

There is an extensive field training component of 120 hours to provide students the opportunity to gain practical hands-on experience in a legal environment.

• Analyze and synthesize the fundamental elements of Canadian and Provincial governments, legal systems, and court structures, including principles and laws related to permitted areas of practice and rules for procedure and evidence in each court or tribunal.
• Articulate and adhere to the general principles of law, legal ethics and business practices, specifically related to paralegal rules of practice.
• Utilize the applicable structure, process, and jurisdictional authority of courts and administrative tribunals to successfully resolve disputes and appeals within the permitted scope of paralegal practice in the legal system.
• Develop and assess strategies which adhere to established principles of ethics and codes of conduct, and enhancement of professional competence.
• Select, evaluate, and compose effective advocacy techniques, including oral and written legal presentations, using accurate legal terminology.
• Employ effective human relations, interpersonal, and intervention strategies in alternate dispute resolution to assist in resolving conflicts.
• Select appropriate and use diverse legal research tools to research, interpret, analyze, synthesize, and update cases, legislation, and legal literature, and write persuasive, accurate, legal documentation and memoranda using appropriate legal citation.

• Manage a paralegal practice and operate a small business, including client service, communication, and accounting principles, in compliance with the Paralegal Rules of Conduct, the ethical and professional responsibilities of Paralegals, and the principles of effective business management.

In this one-year graduate certificate program, students will study analytical chemistry lab techniques, cannabis crop science, and microbiology in order to apply their scientific knowledge and skills to meet the needs of the emerging cannabis industry. The program prepares students to analyze cannabis for quality, safety, and stability, and contribute to research and development, including the development of new cannabis products. In addition to scientific techniques, students will study the regulatory context of the cannabis industry, and develop their scientific communication and project management skills.

Learning Outcomes

• Collect, analyze and summarize data on cannabis cultivation to optimize yield and quality in a variety of production models;
• Perform all tasks in compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and security measures for legal cannabis production and processing;
• Evaluate current research to apply best practices for sustainability and innovation in the cannabis industry;
• Use laboratory procedures to conduct quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of cannabis products to test product quality, safety and stability;
• Write, follow, validate and optimize standard operating procedures to extract and analyze cannabis products;
• Apply business principles to manage resources effectively in a cannabis lab;
• Evaluate product safety using quality assurance programs and processes;
• Design, plan, and manage projects to meet industry demands;
• Communicate scientific data from lab procedures and scientific literature effectively to licensed producers and stakeholders.

This graduate certificate program is designed to offer students the relevant knowledge and skills needed to enhance their professional practice in the care of the specialized population of aging adults.  Students will have the opportunity to develop skills in recreation and leadership, developmental disabilities, mental health, thanatology, and social interventions that support quality of life and person-centred care.  Participation in an interprofessional field placement and research with community organizations will further prepare graduates for employment in settings that support the aging person.

The Pre-Media program is a one-year foundational certificate program designed to introduce the student to various media industries. This preliminary year is intended to provide the student with the opportunity to sample from and discover the various aspects unique to each media program within the School of Contemporary Media. This will allow the student to gain a solid understanding in preparation for a more focused education within a specific media field. The program will offer a hands-on experience using industry standard software taught by creative educators and industry professionals.

Successful graduates of this program will have developed a solid foundation in the skills and knowledge of various media and communication fields. The goal is to give the student the tools to make a more educated and conscious choice for a career program best suited to reflect their interest and skillset.

• Employ a variety of strategies, tools, and techniques to develop creative concepts and ideas to address the requirements of an audience, product or project.
• Collaborate with a production team in the creation of media projects.
• Utilize a variety of industry standard audio/video software applications and techniques in the creation of media for a wide range of platforms.

Business - Finance is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. This program is designed to develop the skills needed to work in the growing personal financial services sector, from customer service to wealth management and financial planning. Students will learn to work with clients, evaluating their needs and offer advice on personal financial management, tax and retirement planning, insurance, investments, and estate planning, as well as customer relations and providing product to clients. Qualified graduates will have completed all the educational requirements leading to the CFP® (Certified Financial Planner®) designation awarded by the Financial Planning Standards Council www.fpsc.ca. and the Registered Retirement Consultant® RRC® designation awarded by CIFP.

Students are also prepared to write the Canadian Securities Course® and Life Licensing Qualification Program examinations as prerequisites to securities and life insurance licensing. Students will also have completed the Mutual Funds Licensing course.

This exciting one-year Ontario College Certificate program allows you to delve into various areas of technology and will help you prepare for and decide on your next step. You'll study with a hands-on approach, exploring a variety of technology subjects such as AutoCAD, practical electronics, welding, machining, computer applications, health and safety, physics and transportation. In addition, you'll discover pathways to programs in the Faculty of Technology, including Building Technology, Applied Science and Technology and Transportation Technology.
