The Developmental Services Worker program (Disability Support) focuses on providing practical and meaningful support to people of all ages with intellectual, physical and learning disabilities to achieve their goals by inspiring, advocating and promoting inclusion.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
The Developmental Services Worker program focuses on providing support to people with various intellectual disabilities, such as Down Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Traumatic Brain Injury and neurocognitive disorders, learning disabilities and/or physical disabilities. Graduates have the knowledge, skills and attitudes that include - and exceed - compassionate caring to support the empowerment of people with disabilities, while providing leadership in promoting social inclusion and helping people accomplish their goals and reach their dreams.

This two–year Ontario College diploma program is designed to provide the specialized skills required for professionals who make a difference every day in the lives of children, youth and adults who have disabilities as well as their support network at home, and in the community, (school, recreation, mental health and addictions, justice supports, employment support and more).

Students begin to specialize in person-centered, strength-based assessments and develop strategies for individuals, their families, and community inclusion through various community-based projects and field placements. Curriculum and field placements align with and exceed provincial and industry standards for the developmental services sector.

WORK EXPERIENCE
An essential component of your education will include experiential learning through course work as well as field placements. Three supervised field placements provide students with varied practical and networking experience where many students receive job offers. Students will also complete the last portion of their facilitation certificate by creating a Person-Directed Plan with a person they have built a relationship with throughout the program. Students will put theory into practice to help support and provide empowerment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Students also have the option of international placements in their fourth semester; however, this should be discussed with the program coordinator as early as possible (and prior to the end of semester 2) in order to assist in facilitating it.

The Carpentry and Renovation Technician program is primarily designed to prepare you for a career in the renovation and construction field.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Gain a solid understanding of the various technical elements of home renovation along with the business skills necessary to succeed in the industry. Topics include:

• Restorative practices, residential carpentry practices

The aim of the Carpentry and Renovation Technician program is to prepare entry-level carpenters, including construction labourers who can function in a wide array of construction projects using sustainable practices. The emphasis is on hands-on experience, including a service learning experience in the community assisting a not-for-profit organization.

This program has been designed to include four semesters with progressive opportunities to earn carpentry apprenticeship levels:

• After successfully completing semester two you will have earned the Carpentry Techniques Ontario College Certificate and have an opportunity to challenge level one for General Carpentry apprenticeship
• By completing two more semesters, you can earn an Ontario College Diploma in Carpentry and Renovation Technician, and can challenge level two for General Carpentry apprenticeship

The Community and Justice Services program will prepare you for front-line work in the criminal justice system and community services field, where you can contribute to positive individual and social change.

Program Highlights
As a graduate of the Community and Justice Services program, you will be challenged to do your personal best while learning how to develop effective relationships with those who are in your care. Throughout the two-year Community and Justice Services program, you will learn what's needed to work with society's at-risk youth and adult populations through experiential and in-class training. Your courses will include a significant focus on human relations and communications skills -- which are essential to your success in this field.

You will obtain the skills and training to work in diverse community and institutional settings. You may work with people who are currently involved, or who are at risk of becoming involved with the criminal justice system, child welfare, or mental health systems. As well, you may work with people who are currently incarcerated, or who are experiencing difficulties as a result of addictions, anti-social behaviours, or a lack of appropriate supports.

The Skills for Justice Scenario Lab at Fleming College is a unique teaching and learning space where faculty are able to involve students in scenarios to test skills and develop competencies in a safe and realistic setting. Access to community-based experiential training is also an integral part of the program. Fleming College's CJS program has an excellent reputation across the province and beyond. Our Field Observation course is unique in the Ontario college system in that it operates inside a federal institution. Other community partnerships also afford students the opportunity to test their skills in real community and correctional environments throughout the four semesters of the program.

WORK EXPERIENCE
The field placement experience is a 15-week block, longer than placements in many other Community and Justice Service programs. During placement, you will be required to obtain a minimum of 520 hours in the field. Placements are available throughout the province and beyond, in correctional centres or community-based programs, including schools, residential treatment facilities and social service agencies. You will be required to submit a current police records check and vulnerable sector check to the placement agency prior to starting third semester. If you have been convicted of an offense under the Criminal Code for which you have not been pardoned or are flagged on a vulnerable sector check, you may be denied the opportunity to do a field placement. If you are deficient in one second semester course you will require a personal interview with the program coordinator to determine if field placement is possible. A student who is deficient in two or more courses will be unable to enroll in third semester until the transcript is complete and clear.

The only post-graduate program of its kind in Ontario, Mechatronics is a unique interdisciplinary engineering program that provides you with a fast-track to a sought-after credential.

Mechatronics is a three-semester program focused on advanced manufacturing, industrial automation, electronics engineering, and computer programming. This is the first graduate certificate in Ontario that fully represents this interdisciplinary field.

WORK PLACEMENT

• In semesters two and four you'll put theoretical education to work in a child care environment. In semester three, ECE teams will implement and run an Interactive Children’s Program, overseen by ECE faculty in the Peterborough community. This will prepare you for semester four, when you will be pulling it all together in your final block field placements.
• A background working with young children (ages newborn to 12) in licensed child care centres is strongly recommended as a prerequisite for field placement.

As a Cultural Heritage Conservation and Management specialist, you will learn a wide range of techniques to save the fragile reminders and markers of the past - preserved for future generations to learn from and enjoy.

Program Highlights
The fundamental role of the conservation professional is to preserve and conserve, as appropriate, cultural property for present and future generations. We have a lot to learn from the experiences and events of people who have gone before us. However, we can't learn much from the past if we don't have records of it. Imagine how much history is lost to us when an ancient artifact is destroyed by perfectly well-meaning people who want to save it.

This two-year Ontario College graduate certificate is an intensive, fast-paced learning experience that you will undertake in four consecutive semesters. You'll start your classes in September and spend your first three semesters, during the fall, winter and summer, at the college. Following your introduction to the field of conservation, you will gain valuable, applied and skills-based experience in the care and handling of most common museum materials, including ceramics, glass, stone, metals, wooden objects, leather and proteinaceous materials, textiles, works of art on paper, books, archival materials, photographs and modern materials. Updated curriculum reflects a focus on hands-on skills, experienced based learning, practical applications, beyond best practices and professional standards rooted in ethical applications. Work Experience
There are many opportunities to get practical experience both at the college and off-campus. In your fourth semester, you will take on a challenging, full-time, unpaid curriculum-based internship at an approved site. Students should be prepared to relocate for the internship, to pay full tuition fees, and be self-supporting during this semester. You will negotiate your own internship with faculty assistance and some students have participated in internships abroad. The internship is an unpaid study experience.Students are responsible for negotiating additional paperwork and funding requirements for international internships including visas, travel and insurance. Instrumentation technicians commission, install, calibrate, maintain and repair complex measurement and control systems used in a variety of process control applications.
