The Tourism-Global Travel program combines practical hands-on experiences with class lectures. Students learn the key elements of the travel business through courses such as: Discovering Destinations, Customer Service Management, Tour Operations, Tourism Trends, Marketing, Travel Reservations, Digital Media, Adventure & Ecotourism and Hospitality Sales & Service, plus electives in business and general education courses. You will have the opportunity to meet industry leaders through events, program field trips and guest lecturers. You can also join other School of Business students on an international learning experience to get a first-hand look at various tourism destinations. The 200 hour field placement provides practical knowledge, career opportunities and connections in the industry.

The program provides the leadership and practical skills needed to work for tour operators, destination marketing organizations, travel agencies, cruise lines, hotels, resorts, or tourism and travel service providers. Complete a second business or hospitality diploma in one year, or continue your formal education with our partner universities in Canada, Australia, Ireland or Scotland.

Fleming’s Tourism - Global Travel program offers field trips to a variety of tourist attractions and business, allowing students to get an up-close look at the industry they are preparing to enter. Our industry-experienced faculty come from a diverse background of tourism industry fields and are eager to share their real-life experiences with our students.

WORK EXPERIENCE
You have the opportunity to travel on a field trip and volunteer on projects with local people, experience and understand why people travel to resort destinations. You are also required to solicit and complete a minimum of 200 hours of field placement, to practice the theories and skills studied in class. It is recommended that students complete 100 hours between semester two and three and the remainder before graduating. This gives you the opportunity to network and meet potential employers.

Delivered at our campus in Peterborough, this is one of the few two-year Graphic Design advanced diploma programs offered in Ontario. In this intensive, compressed program, three years of study is completed over a two- year period. Graduates are ready to start their graphic design careers in just 24 months.

Students in Fleming’s accelerated graphic design program learn and work in a unique, contemporary design studio space; in this “classroom as design lab and studio,” they discover what it takes to become a professional designer, and how to thrive in this fast-paced industry.

Students gain the skills and understanding required to communicate ideas in digital and printed media through extensive and varied applied learning experiences. At the end of six continuous semesters, they are fully-prepared to hit the ground running, ready to launch their design careers in any industry that requires creative problem solving through visual communication.

In this program you will:

• Learn in a laptop-based environment which provides maximum flexibility to work offsite as well as in class.
• Experience the design studio model that emphasizes collaboration, communication and experimentation – skills that are highly valued by employers.
• Develop and build your art, design and technical skills in modular small projects, working towards comprehensive collaborative projects to further test your abilities.
• Live the life of a designer, working independently and with your team, on an ambitious, large- scale project that requires branding, diverse multi-media graphic materials. This will include projects across a full range of media and platforms including print publications, advertising, web, mobile, social media, signage and environmental graphics.

The General Arts and Science - University Transfer curriculum delivers more than just challenging individual courses. Academic disciplines have developed together over time. The influences they exert on one another, and their research methods and major theories, are best appreciated through an integrated program of study such as the University Transfer option. This program is unique in its emphasis on providing students with a coherent overview of Literature, Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology. These complementary courses will provide you with the opportunity to apply your learning across the curriculum. The faculty believe that the integrated design of the program will help students develop as thinkers, writers and researchers.

Your writing skills will also grow. In the classroom and outside it, written communication takes many forms - essays, laboratory reports, and practical business documentation. In the University Transfer curriculum, faculty co-ordinate their efforts to help students develop these related writing skills.

ENTRY TO UNIVERSITY
Trent University Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science
This program was developed in collaboration with Trent University. As a result, Trent University will grant a total of five first year credits (in English, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, plus one unassigned credit) to graduates of this program who achieve an overall average of 70%, and no individual grade of less than 65% in their Literature, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Composition and Critical Analysis courses. Successful program graduates will have obtained the credits required for first year of Trent's Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. (Other Trent degree programs also recognize these Fleming courses for advanced standing.)

Trent University Indigenous Bachelor of Education
To be eligible, applicants are required to self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit, and must also have achieved a 75% cumulative average in the University Transfer program. Successful applicants will be awarded five credits out of the 25 credit degree.

Carleton University Bachelor of Arts
At Carleton University, program graduates with an overall average of 70% or higher may be granted up to five full transfer credits, equivalent to first year towards the Bachelor of Arts degree.
A growing number of other universities recognize the program for significant credit towards their degrees.

The Carpentry and Renovation Technician program is primarily designed to prepare you for a career in the renovation and construction field.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Gain a solid understanding of the various technical elements of home renovation along with the business skills necessary to succeed in the industry. Topics include:

• Restorative practices, residential carpentry practices
• Plans and specification, project management
• Mechanical trades used for renovations, health and safety
• Estimating and layouts, sustainable building design, drafting
• Entrepreneurial skills for the trades
• Custom millwork, stair construction
• Basic wiring, and plumbing, drywall installation and finishing

The aim of the Carpentry and Renovation Technician program is to prepare entry-level carpenters, including construction labourers who can function in a wide array of construction projects using sustainable practices. The emphasis is on hands-on experience, including a service learning experience in the community assisting a not-for-profit organization.

This program has been designed to include four semesters with progressive opportunities to earn carpentry apprenticeship levels:

• After successfully completing semester two you will have earned the Carpentry Techniques Ontario College Certificate and have an opportunity to challenge level one for General Carpentry apprenticeship
• By completing two more semesters, you can earn an Ontario College Diploma in Carpentry and Renovation Technician, and can challenge level two for General Carpentry apprenticeship

In just 10 months you can add a Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Services to your existing college diploma or university degree, by enrolling in this accelerated program.

Through hands-on training, you will learn to develop and manage recreation programs to work in this challenging and rewarding field. In the final semester, get connected to the recreation industry thorough an experiential field placement at a site of your choice, that can be in Ontario, in Canada or in an international location.

Occupational Therapist Assistants and Physiotherapist Assistants work with registered occupational therapists and physiotherapists to enable clients to cope with their limitations in movement, daily function, activity and/or occupational performance, whether temporary or permanent.

With ever-increasing numbers of aging people requiring assistance to continue a full life, the need has never been greater for occupational therapists(OTs), physiotherapists (PTs) and their assistants. While a great deal of work these days is with seniors, there's also much to be done with those recovering from surgery, health conditions such as cancer or stroke, and chronic conditions such as arthritis. You can help people get back into their lives - as an Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant.

As an OTA and PTA, you'll help awaken people's physical potential - and learn more about yourself in the process. Throughout the deliberately broad-based four-semester program, you'll learn how to assist clients to achieve their health goals.

Work Experience
Field experience is an integral aspect of the OTA & PTA program and is highly valued by students as they welcome the opportunity to integrate in-class studies with hands-on experience. Students are assigned to a variety of clinical settings throughout second, third and fourth semester. Students, with the assistance of a faculty member, arrange their final eight week culminating clinical experience. Fleming staff is committed to meeting national accreditation standards by ensuring that students accumulate a minimum of 500 clinical hours, with no less than 30% (150) of these hours being in each discipline.

The Fitness and Health Promotion program will prepare you to perform the roles and responsibilities of a fitness and health consultant. Heightened consumer awareness of fitness and health has resulted in a significant demand for these qualified fitness professionals.

Through accurate assessment and monitoring of health and fitness levels, you will prepare activities and programs that are safe and effective, and that meet individual needs and interests. Over four semesters, you will progressively develop skills and knowledge in fitness assessment and exercise programming, nutrition, health promotion, leadership and self-development, business planning and lifestyle consulting. Field Placement opportunities will provide you with workplace experience supervised by trained professionals and leaders in the fitness industry. Placements can be tailored to your specific career goals or future university plans. For example, students have requested placements in hospitals, corporate sites, fitness facilities, chiropractic or physiotherapy settings, and non-profit organizations such as Diabetes Canada and Osteoporosis Canada. Eligible students graduating from Fleming’s two-year accounting program can enter Trent University’s Bachelor of Business Administration, Specialization in Accounting directly and complete their degree in an additional two years without any bridging courses required. You must maintain a 75% overall average and an average of 65% in ACCT 72, ACCT4, ACCT22, ACCT 76, ACCT 80, ACCT 23, and ACCT 77 in order to meet the requirements of the accounting specialization degree at Trent, and the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Canada professional accreditation body.

This new program is the only one of its kind in Ontario. Our unique three-semester Emergency Management and Business Continuity program is ideally suited for working professionals and those who are interested in pursuing a new career in this dynamic and growing field. The program’s flexible delivery model, online and on-campus delivery, means you can continue to work while pursuing advanced training. You’ll attend in-class intensive weekend sessions three times each semester, while the balance of course work is completed online. You will also put your skills to the test in a culminating applied project where you will develop and facilitate an emergency response or business continuity plan for a public or private organization.

Emergency Management and Business Continuity professionals are trained to prepare for loss of critical business functions. This can result from cyber-attack, data breaches, supply chain disruption, security incidents or natural disasters such as wildfires, flooding, pandemics, hazardous chemical spills, and other disasters that endanger the health, survivability of public and private organizations.

This program provides you with an historical context while instilling a solid understanding of governance, legislation and best practices. Our program has a fall and winter start date. Each intake runs for three consecutive semesters, which means you can complete the full program in just one year. During the spring and fall, students complete extensive hands-on training designed around real-world firefighting experiences and scenarios. Additional classroom theory, college course material and medical upgrading to the EMR Standard, occurs during the winter months. Students graduate fully- prepared to enter the fire service industry.

Fleming’s program provides you with over 60 days of hands-on practical training, which is delivered at the Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy (EOETA). The Academy is a well–established, fully equipped fire and emergency services training facility.

Course content is based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and includes the following topics: fire behavior, suppression, ventilation, incident management systems, command and control, hazardous materials, forcible entry, firefighter survival, auto extrication, confined space awareness, technical rescue, fire attack scenarios, fitness and wellness, fire prevention principles, public education and medical training that includes the Red Cross Emergency Medical Response (EMR) and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS). To further assist students, we offer fire industry-specific interviewing techniques and career planning strategies to prepare them for the application and interview process within the fire services.

Training Facilities
The Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy (EOETA), our primary training facility, is located 40km east of Peterborough in the village of Norwood. EOETA has several established training environments including a burn tower, roof props, door props, search and rescue maze, confined space prop and a new high intensity propane training props. Students are fully-trained in all aspects of firefighting in a real-world environment, live-fire environment, allowing for a proper evaluation of each student, while completing the NFPA hands-on skills practice and evaluations.
