Humber’s Architectural Technology advanced diploma program will train you to use your logical and critical thinking skills as you apply architectural technology to construction and building design. You’ll learn from full-time, award-winning professors and licensed architects who bring real-life perspective and valuable industry contacts to you. The curriculum is designed with industry collaboration, ensuring you are learning current and relevant material. In the program, you will learn:

• Computer-aided drawing, building methods and project management using the most current computer programs such as AutoCAD and Revit (Building Information Modelling)
• Construction technologies for materials such as wood frame, steel, masonry and precast concrete, and project management skills
• Hands-on skills including building code, building specifications, estimating, and structural and mechanical knowledge
• Sustainable design skills needed in today’s eco-friendly architectural technology field

Courses include instruction in freehand sketching, history of architecture, renovation and restoration, site planning, and technical communications. Architectural Technology electives include bath and kitchen, interior detailing, building code (legal), small building residential design and more.

Get hands-on experience in the architectural technology industry during an optional architectural field placement. The placement normally takes place from May through August following semester four (minimum 400 hours). Humber provides a range of services to support students including working with business, industry and government to identify work placement opportunities.

Humber’s Post-Production graduate certificate program will develop the technological skills, creative and critical abilities you will need to thrive in the post-production industry. You will gain a firm grounding in industry-standard, non-linear video editing software. Through lectures and hands-on work, you will learn the fundamentals of the technical and aesthetic creation of digital media content and get the opportunity to specialize and target specific post-production skills to maximize your marketability in a competitive industry.

You will learn how to collaborate with other departments in the production chain, and how to develop efficient broadcast standard workflows. You will be introduced to the theory and practice of picture and sound editing/mixing, VFX and motion graphics creation, and you will learn how to make professional contacts, engage with employers and guilds, and the basic business skills you will need as a freelancer. You will study the fundamentals of branding and graphic design and produce a marketable portfolio website.

With technology as its main focus, your sound, picture, and visual effects compositing skills will enable you to create content to the industry standards required in the competitive media environment.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program, a graduate will:

• Evaluate documentaries, narrative films, TV series and music videos for creative features and technical aspects.

Work Placement

• This program includes a mandatory work placement. We work with you to find a suitable placement in your chosen field of specialization, allowing you to apply the skills you’ve learned in a professional environment. Placements will take place in post-production houses and media companies in Toronto. Work placements are typically unpaid but provide you with the opportunity to further your knowledge in your chosen field and begin to build your resumé and network of professional contacts.

Humber’s Electrical Techniques certificate program is designed to introduce you to the fundamental elements of the trade. We aim to facilitate your employment by giving you practical experience with trade regulations and practices. Throughout your program, you will get a solid understanding of the various technical elements of the electrical trade. There will be a significant practical component to the program. Our graduates find a range of employment opportunities with electrical apprenticeship programs, power generation, green energy and automation.

Humber’s Electrical Engineering Technology – Control Systems advanced diploma program blends in-class, academic learning with hands-on laboratory work to prepare you for a career in electrical power and control systems engineering. In the third year of this program, you’ll learn advanced skills for a thorough academic and practical approach to the control of electrical equipment and industrial process instrumentation in automated manufacturing, processing, power systems and utilities industries.

The program blends classroom theory with laboratory work on subjects such as electric devices, circuits, digital fundamentals, power generation and distribution, electrical computer-aided design (CAD), electrical codes, programming PLCs and industrial communications.

During the third year of this program, you’ll learn advanced skills to design, operate and maintain electrical equipment and instruments in automated manufacturing, environmental and power systems.

Optional Co-op
This program offers an optional co-op opportunity. Co-op work terms enable you to apply your skills and knowledge in a work environment and gain valuable and practical experience related to your program of study. You will improve personal and technical skills while expanding your professional network.

For students who are accepted into the program, three co-op work terms will take place. The first four-month work term is between Semesters 2 and 3, and then two consecutive four-month work terms occur between Semesters 4 and 5. While co-op work opportunities are not guaranteed, participating students will receive a wide range of services to help them find a co-op placement.

Humber’s Journalism advanced diploma program is designed to produce dynamic storytellers who are immediately ready to work in a variety of media platforms as reporters, broadcasters, editors, producers and digital content managers. As a journalism student, you’ll be given training in hands-on skills that are at the forefront of what’s happening in the industry today including reporting the news, creating broadcast stories, writing feature articles, capturing high quality images and creating compelling digital presentations. Humber’s Cloud Computing Ontario Graduate Certificate provides you with the knowledge, skills and practices to become integral parts of cloud development and delivery in a variety of industrial settings. Utilizing a case methodology approach, students are exposed to everyday business challenges in order to develop experience in areas such as containerization, virtualization, data storage and security, and automation. 

Six courses in the first semester are designed to provide foundational knowledge and skills in cloud computing to students who may have a wide range of backgrounds. In the second semester, the courses offer more advanced topics such as cloud solution architecture, cloud security, automation, big data and DevOps in cloud computing. 

Upon completion of the program, graduates will have demonstrated the ability to apply cloud computing principles, methodology, and techniques to design and implement enterprise level applications hosted in virtual platforms in effective, secure and resilient infrastructure.

Through the four semesters of study, students learn advanced photographic techniques giving them the ability to bring their visual imaginations to life. Classes are hands-on, and you will develop additional skills in planning, production and post-production. From advertising photography to editorial and portraiture, to motion capture and e-commerce imaging, you will graduate from this program prepared to engage fully in a wide range of visual imaging career options. In this program, you will:

Humber’s Recreation and Leisure Services diploma program provides you with skills needed to start your career in government, not-for-profit and commercial recreation organizations. You will learn about recreation programming, special event management, staff management, facility operations, marketing and other services within the industry.

The curriculum is designed with industry collaboration, ensuring it is current and relevant. Within the program, students use ActiveNet software and PerfectMind, the most widely used registration management software in the recreation industry.

Students apply their skills by planning and implementing events for local community and charity organizations. A three-day leadership camp at the Ontario Educational Leadership Centre helps build communication and leadership skills while guest speakers, practical training and field trips provide added benefits in preparing you for the workplace.

Learning from professors, as well as managers and directors of recreation programs, centres and agencies will give you valuable exposure to the industry and training in current issues.

Work Placement

• Qualified students will complete a work placement in Semester 4 – three days per week for 15 weeks (total of 250 hours). The school works with the student to find a placement with an industry partner. The placement occurs across industry sectors including professional sport associations, community and amateur sport governing bodies, and private sector sport organizations. These placements provide valuable experience and industry contacts.

Humber’s Game Programming advanced diploma program is project-driven and focuses on programming and designing game engines for the purpose of game development, from indie to AAA. You will work on team projects using programming tools to develop, test and maintain game applications through the practice of theories of usability, information architectures, network architecture and industry standards of practice. Topics such as coding, game engine design, game production, artificial intelligence, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and platform-specific programming are all covered by a comprehensive set of courses.

Throughout your study, you will have access to peers in related programs such as Visual and Digital Arts and Animation - 3D which will allow you to participate in collaborative work, as well as the opportunity to build high-quality assets for use in the games you are developing as a student programmer.

You will graduate with a significant capstone project to demonstrate your coding talents, and a well-rounded skillset that combines high levels of mathematics, physics and visualization within the field of computer programming. With a high degree of game engine expertise, familiarity with 3D modelling, scripting, and technical direction, you will have the tools you need to compete and succeed in the rapidly expanding field of game development.
