Get started on your new career as a Law Clerk in just 46 weeks and join the workforce as a specialized professional dealing with the application of law in a variety of settings.
 
This program prepares students to work in many different legal environments including law offices, government agencies and ministries, legal clinics, financial institutions, and various business enterprises. Our three-semester curriculum provides a solid foundation in legal procedures and substantive law ap­plicable to authorized areas of work for a law clerk. Emphasis is placed on property law, civil litigation, family law, criminal law, wills and estates, legal research and writing, and business law. Students become familiar with office procedures relating to the production of legal documents and specialized legal software programs. A four-week work place­ment provides students with an opportunity to enhance their classroom experience with practical work experience and exposure to potential employers.
 
A major objective of the program is to develop law clerks who are able to complete independent legal work as part of a team supporting lawyers in the day-to-day routine of their practice. In addition, the combina­tion of business and law subjects provides a strong foundation for career choices in other settings that offer services which apply law to specific interests. Recent employment situations of this type have included real estate offices, home construction companies, insurance companies, financial institutions, government agencies, community legal clinics, academic institutions, and private corporations.

The internet continues to evolve at a rapid pace and the data of organizations have never been more vulnerable than now. Cyber attacks are costing organizations hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars per occurrence, and happen so often they are often featured in the news. There is a worldwide shortage of cybersecurity professionals as every organization seeks ways to make their data more secure.

Once you graduate from this eight-month, full-time graduate certificate program, you will be equipped with skills to protect your organization’s computers, servers, networks, and applications from breaches and unauthorized access. The courses in the program will give you an edge in detecting breaches, computer forensics, threat hunting, and penetration testing.

In addition, this program is highly interdisciplinary and includes aspects of law, policy, human factors, ethics and risk management. Focused on cyber-defense training, the program ensures you are able to “think like the intruder” when deploying security techniques. Upon graduation, students acquire skills relevant to leadership roles in cybersecurity across a variety of industries and businesses.

Laurentian University offers a four-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree at St. Lawrence College in Kingston. The program combines the theoretical underpinnings of university with the practical strengths of college. The relationship is all about providing access to education in a seam­less manner, providing fair credit for prior academic and experiential learning.

There are two primary streams of access to the BBA degree program: an entry-level, four-year degree and an accelerated level designed for college diploma graduates where credit is given for prior learning and experience. The accelerated level entry permits the completion of the degree in as little as three academic terms. Find out more about applying and the levels - here.

The core subjects in the degree program cover the fundamentals of economics, account­ing, financial information systems, financial management, management decision making, organizational behaviour, human resources, strategic planning, and marketing. Commu­nication, analytical and computer skills are emphasized. Elective courses permit students to tailor the BBA to suit their own personal objectives.

In addition to securing full-time employment upon completion of the program, students may apply to graduate and professional programs. Recent graduates have gone on to Master's programs in areas including Business, Economics, and Finance, and to professional programs including Law (LLB), Education (BEd) and Accounting (CPA).

Develop knowledge and practical skill in areas of carpentry, including blueprint reading, residential and commercial construction, framing, finishing, stair manufacture, surveying, fine woodworking, commercial building practices, and more. Spend 1/3 of each week in a hands on carpentry lab setting.

The General Arts & Science (Certificate) program offers a foundational year for students preparing for future study in a wide range of fields. For stu­dents in the Technology stream, core courses in communications, computers, and personal development are enhanced by courses in math, chemistry, and physics. Graduates of the Technology stream are prepared for future study in college programs such as Civil Engineering Technology, Energy Systems Engineering Technician/Technology, Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technician/Technology,and Game Development Technician.

This two-year Ontario College Diploma pro­gram prepares students to work as practical front-line service providers in a variety of social service settings.

The SSW program gives students the opportunity to learn about and to work with many different people including individuals with mental health and addiction problems, seniors who require extra support, children with behaviour problems, women who have been abused, people who live in poverty and / or who are homeless and adolescents who live in group homes.

Our program includes:

• Two field placement opportunities
• Professors with experience in the field
• Relevant courses emphasizing active learn­ing, skill-based learning, hands-on activi­ties, practical assignments
• Eligibility to join the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and to use the title, Registered Social Service Worker.

Highlights
Field Placement Experience: Practical training is provided through field placement opportuni­ties. Field placement choices are made with the students’ professional growth in mind.
 
Some examples are placements with:

• families on social assistance
• seniors and their families
• women who have suffered abuse
• new immigrants
• adults with addiction problems
• consumers of mental health services
• unemployed adults
• children in schools or group homes

Combine theoretical study with practical experience in this program which prepares students to work with children (from birth to age 12) and their families in a variety of early childhood settings. Graduates have a firm understanding of human development from birth to 12 years of age, and can use this understanding to create responsive, inclusive, play-based learning environments to best support the child as they develop. Students receive 630 hours of practical experience in a variety of early learning environments during three field placements, starting in the first year of the program. This experience allows students to apply the skills taught in the classroom in real world learning experiences.
