Few colleges in Ontario offer an Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology program and the workforce with these skills is shrinking due to retirements. As a result demand for these skills is high and continues to grow stronger every year.

Program Highlights

Hands On: The program is practical and hands-on. Core subject areas have approximately a 2:1 ratio of lab hours to theory hours. Students will be working with the equipment found in the industry. The program provides students with a sound knowledge of process measurement and control theory. They will be trained to work in the modern team-oriented organization with emphasis on productive interaction with peers.

Flexibility: The program accommodates high school graduates, mature students making a career change and post-graduate students wishing to acquire practical skills. Students enrolled in the two-year technician program may, upon graduation, transfer directly into the more rigorous and theoretical third year and earn a technology diploma.

Job satisfaction: Control systems are the brains behind the devices that produce everyday goods and keep our environment and utilities safe. Jobs are found in municipal waste and water utilities, building environment controls as well as assembly and manufacturing. In control systems, different tasks and problem solving are performed daily. Our graduates have told us; “You never do the same thing twice”. The control systems field is continuously evolving.

Technologists will often work with equipment in a complete system, ensuring that the individual devices work as a unit. Technologists have a greater theoretical understanding of control systems, communications, programming and technical project planning, allowing them to become involved in engineering design, as well as device and system specification.

Co-operative Education Opportunities: Both the technician and technologist programs now offer co-operative education opportunities – depending on availability of positions. These paid work­place educational opportunities will expand as we cultivate more co-op positions with other firms.

Co-op opportunities occur during a four month summer term after the second and fourth semesters and/or a full year term between the fifth and sixth semesters. The number of co-op positions available each year is not predefined. Students are able to apply for positions posted by various indus­trial firms and government agencies through­out the year. These opportunities give our students valuable on-the-job experience, financial help with their educational costs and enhanced employment possibilities.

All culinary programs offer the flexibility to decide if a Culinary Skills Certificate (one-year program) or a Culinary Management Diploma (two-year program) is the right fit.

If you have a three-year diploma or a degree, this program will prepare you for the exciting career of user experience (UX) designer. UX designers consult with target audiences (users) to collect and interpret data that can be used to make technology, products and services that meet their needs, are functional and pleasurable to use, and meet the strategic objectives of businesses and organizations.

With this graduate certificate you will be prepared to work with clients in a number of different industry sectors to achieve these vital business objectives. The program will help you develop skills in research, facilitation, presentation, business analysis, project management, information architecture, usability assessment as well as visualization. You’ll learn how to implement design-thinking processes and strategies, conduct user research, employ usability and accessibility best practices, and produce UX documentation to help companies and organizations generate innovative products and services that meet the needs of their customers and audiences.

Our in-house training salon, Dynamic Designs, provides opportunities to practice new skills with clients from the community. The beauty industry continues to grow each year, expanding opportunities for a career in the esthetics profession. From setting up a home-based business to traveling the seas in cruise ship spas, esthetics students and graduates are presented with more options than ever before.

The Music and Digital Media (MDM) Program is the only program of its kind in Canada. This challenging program builds foundational skills related to music performance, multimedia, film and audio recording. MDM prepares students for careers in music and media industries, and further education, if they wish.

The program focuses on the connection between diverse artistic disciplines and creative integration of art forms. Studies in music are combined with digital media courses in video production and audio recording. Throughout the program, students study their primary instrument (or voice) in 10 private applied lessons per semester. In second year, students gain experience in composition, entrepreneurial skills, and integrated arts project work including performance, sound design and installation art.

The internet continues to evolve at a rapid pace and the data of organizations have never been more vulnerable than now. Cyber attacks are costing organizations hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars per occurrence, and happen so often they are often featured in the news. There is a worldwide shortage of cybersecurity professionals as every organization seeks ways to make their data more secure.

Once you graduate from this eight-month, full-time graduate certificate program, you will be equipped with skills to protect your organization’s computers, servers, networks, and applications from breaches and unauthorized access. The courses in the program will give you an edge in detecting breaches, computer forensics, threat hunting, and penetration testing.

In addition, this program is highly interdisciplinary and includes aspects of law, policy, human factors, ethics and risk management. Focused on cyber-defense training, the program ensures you are able to “think like the intruder” when deploying security techniques. Upon graduation, students acquire skills relevant to leadership roles in cybersecurity across a variety of industries and businesses.

You will learn about a variety of topics – accommodations management, food and beverage management, specialized marketing, conferencing and banqueting, and financial management to name a few.

Our program’s curriculum remains current through regular consultation with industry leaders. This real-world input ensures that your educational needs and future career expectations are being met and that you are job-ready when you graduate. Your professors have extensive work experience in the industry and will help develop the essential skills required to be an effective supervisor, manager and leader in hospitality organizations locally, nationally and internationally. To support this development, you will participate in a four-week field placement in a qualified work site of your choice.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can affect an individual’s ability to communicate, socialize and function effectively at home, school and in their community. Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) can be used to develop new skills including language, social and play skills, self-help skills, academics, motor skills, life skills and appropriate behaviour.

Students in this highly specialized program learn to use a variety of evidence-based approaches to develop the skills of individuals with ASD across the lifespan by reviewing relevant literature, developing intervention plans, implementing programs, and collecting data to ensure intervention strategies effectively meet established goals.

Graduates:

• Understand the characteristics of the full spectrum of ASD and how human development occurs in the neuro-typical population;
• Know the range of evidence-based practices in autism treatment;
• Know how to complete curriculum-based assessments and functional assessments;
• Can plan, implement, and monitor interventions based on these assessment results;
• Know the ethical and professional requirements of working in the field of ABA
• Show leadership in the workplace by contributing knowledge and skills for practical solutions related to the treatment of ASD.

As this is a graduate certificate program, students can expect an intensive workload. Classes combine theory with active learning experiences and group work. Field placements are available in a range of settings and some may require the use of a vehicle.

Develop knowledge and practical skill in areas of carpentry, including blueprint reading, residential and commercial construction, framing, finishing, stair manufacture, surveying, fine woodworking, commercial building practices, and more. Spend 1/3 of each week in a hands on carpentry lab setting.
