The General Arts & Science (Certificate) program offers a foundational year for students preparing for future study in a wide range of fields. For students in the Social Sciences stream, core courses in communications, computers, and personal development are enhanced by courses in Psychology, Sociology, Interper­sonal Skills, Addictions, Stress Management, and Statistics. Graduates of the Social Sci­ences stream are prepared for future study in Community Services programs such as Social Service Worker, Behavioural Science Technol­ogy, and Child and Youth Care. Students wishing to pursue Behavioural Science Technology may require additional courses and should contact the General Arts & Science program coordinator.

For students moving on to other St. Lawrence College programs after completing this one-year program, some of the courses completed as part of this program may transfer. For more information, please consult the appropriate program coordinator of your targeted program.

St. Lawrence College offers two programs in accounting: Business Administration – Accounting, a three-year program and Business – Accounting, a two-year program. The Business Administration – Accounting program offers students a more intensive background in financial accounting, corporate finance, cost accounting and taxation during the third year.

The first two semesters of most Business programs offer the same curriculum. The curriculum for the remaining semesters in the accounting programs focuses on the areas of accounting and finance.

The curriculum in this graduate certificate program focuses on digital strategy development, an area of the industry where there is a shortage of trained professionals. The program will deepen the students’ marketing communications skills and develop new skills in planning and implementing Integrated Marketing Communications campaigns. Students learn how to utilize interactive tools to develop customer-focused interactive marketing programs as well as web analytics to predict and measure the success of web and social media campaigns. Hands-on practical experience is gained through an agency model where students work to solve real challenges from real clients, followed by a 6-week work placement.

Graduates from our Energy Systems Engineering Technician and Technology (ESET) programs work in exciting new careers as Renewable Energy System Designers and Clean Energy System Project Managers and Installers.  In addition, our graduates have expertise in building energy management and building energy systems, where they find rewarding employment as Energy Managers and Energy Auditors.

Our many successful graduates illustrate how every year, businesses, governments and consumers are becoming more concerned with the financial and environmental costs of energy usage. Our ESET graduates are filling the growing needs of this marketplace for capable people with the knowledge and skills to design and implement renewable energy systems as well as to audit energy use in commercial and residential buildings and make recommendations to reduce energy demand and cost.

This two-year Ontario College Diploma pro­gram prepares students to work as practical front-line service providers in a variety of social service settings.

The SSW program gives students the opportunity to learn about and to work with many different people including individuals with mental health and addiction problems, seniors who require extra support, children with behaviour problems, women who have been abused, people who live in poverty and / or who are homeless and adolescents who live in group homes.

Our program includes:

• Two field placement opportunities
• Professors with experience in the field
• Relevant courses emphasizing active learn­ing, skill-based learning, hands-on activi­ties, practical assignments
• Eligibility to join the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and to use the title, Registered Social Service Worker.

There is a high demand for skilled and knowledgeable people in all areas of the hospitality industry, especially in the food, beverage, and accommodations sectors. You will learn about a variety of topics – accommodations management, food and beverage management, specialized marketing, conferencing and banqueting, and financial management to name a few.

Our program’s curriculum remains current through regular consultation with industry leaders. This real-world input ensures that your educational needs and future career expectations are being met and that you are job-ready when you graduate. Your professors have extensive work experience in the industry and will help develop the essential skills required to be an effective supervisor, manager and leader in hospitality organizations locally, nationally and internationally. To support this development, you will participate in a four-week field placement in a qualified work site of your choice.

This program prepares you to work in the exciting world of Hospitality. By the time you leave this program, the only question remaining will be: Where in the world do you want to take your talents?

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can affect an individual’s ability to communicate, socialize and function effectively at home, school and in their community. Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) can be used to develop new skills including language, social and play skills, self-help skills, academics, motor skills, life skills and appropriate behaviour.

Students in this highly specialized program learn to use a variety of evidence-based approaches to develop the skills of individuals with ASD across the lifespan by reviewing relevant literature, developing intervention plans, implementing programs, and collecting data to ensure intervention strategies effectively meet established goals.

Graduates:

• Understand the characteristics of the full spectrum of ASD and how human development occurs in the neuro-typical population;
• Know the range of evidence-based practices in autism treatment;
• Know how to complete curriculum-based assessments and functional assessments;
• Can plan, implement, and monitor interventions based on these assessment results;
• Know the ethical and professional requirements of working in the field of ABA
• Show leadership in the workplace by contributing knowledge and skills for practical solutions related to the treatment of ASD.

As this is a graduate certificate program, students can expect an intensive workload. Classes combine theory with active learning experiences and group work. Field placements are available in a range of settings and some may require the use of a vehicle.

This program includes amazing experiential learning opportunities and small class sizes that prepare students for an exciting career in advertising and marketing communications, where there are labour shortages in major markets. This means a wealth of job opportunities!

The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway program prepares individuals for successful admission to, and future success in, certificate and diploma-level Health Sciences programs and other post-secondary studies. Courses in math, biology, and chemistry are complemented by studies in communications, computers, and general education. Program content provides students with the required knowledge and skills to meet admission requirements for future study in a college Health Sciences programs such as Paramedic, Practical Nursing, Veterinary Assistant and Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician, and with transferable post-secondary credits where relevant.

This program will provide you with the opportunity to excel in the vibrant, rewarding and highly mobile tourism industry. The skills you acquire in this program reflect employer needs and will help ensure that you are ready for the work environment. Art and cultural tourism, hospitality and tourism law, sport tourism, special events planning and management, eco and adventure tourism, and historical tourism are but a few of the many subject areas that you will explore.
