Software engineering goes beyond programming.  It’s about developing, writing, testing, implementing, and maintaining software systems. It’s the foundation of all computer systems. In other words, our digital world depends on software engineering.

In UNB’s Software Engineering program, you’ll learn how to develop and maintain reliable, safe, affordable, and efficient software systems that satisfy customer requirements. You’ll also gain the skills and knowledge needed to work on large and expensive software systems that often have safety-critical applications.  

Software Engineering is a joint program in the Faculty of Computer Science and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The program is available as a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree.

Our program is the only Software Engineering program in Atlantic Canada accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB), and one of only 14 CEAB-accredited programs in Canada. Sociology is the study of society. Do you find yourself wondering about how social movements and norms develop? The Department of Culture and Media Studies houses specialists in media studies, literatures, film, music, and languages. This multidisciplinary group is dedicated to fostering broad understandings of culture while also offering opportunities for students to engage critically and creatively with an array of media arts, global cultures and musical traditions.
The language courses are a continuous series and must be taken in the normal sequence. Students with some prior knowledge of Spanish should have this assessed in order to be placed at their proper level. The first two years provide students with a solid working knowledge of Spanish. Students may change streams in consultation with the Department.

Psychology is the science of human thought, behaviour and emotion. All that we think, feel and do is a possible topic for psychological study. Psychology applies its knowledge to human activity in order to improve lives and alleviate suffering.

At UNB, we offer a broad spectrum of research areas in psychology, including: human sexuality, depression, feminist perspectives, Autism, women’s studies, internet and gambling addictions, gender and laterality, pain assessment and management, infant and adolescent development, cultural psychology, self-concept and identity, bilingualism and cognitive neuroscience.

Chemistry is the study of the properties of the fundamental building blocks of matter, ranging in size from single hydrogen atoms to complex aggregates of biologically important species. Chemists prepare new compounds and study their composition and structure. This activity, coupled with studies of the way in which chemical reactions occur, allows theories on chemical bonding and reaction to be formulated.

Chemistry can provide the foundation for interesting careers in medicine and medical laboratory work. It can also lead to a career in pharmaceutical design and innovation, or genetic research. Chemistry provides the strong background needed to research and develop discoveries in countless real-world materials, from plastics to foodstuffs to modern materials used in housing, transportation, and computer technology.

The Chemistry program is available as a major, double major, minor or honours option as part of a four-year Bachelor of Science degree. The Faculty of Science is one of the university’s oldest faculties and was established when UNB was founded in 1785. Contemporary biology asks many questions due to the vast scope of disciplines related to biological sciences, ranging from the smallest molecules and cellular components, to individual organisms such as microbes, plants and animals, to the larger environment, ecosystems and the biosphere. 

The Biology program is available as a four-year Bachelor of Science degree with majors and honours programs, or as a minor within range of interdepartmental programs.

This four-year program combines the reasoning, research and writing skills offered in a traditional liberal arts education with the hands-on studio arts courses offered by one of Canada's most respected fine craft schools, the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design.

You will complete two years at both UNB Fredericton and NBCCD and have the choice of starting at either institution.

The four-year Bachelor of Nursing program comprises a majority of coursework in Nursing, as well as courses from other disciplines, including: English, Biology, and Psychology.

A Bachelor of Nursing from UNB qualifies graduates to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).
