In the Psychology program at UNB’s Fredericton campus, you’ll explore human behavior- our desires, impulses, actions and emotions- in the context of the science that drives it.

The Psychology program will prepare you for a variety of careers including policymaking at the local, national or global level, or professional programs in a range of healthcare areas such as neuropsychology, speech and language pathology, or medicine.

You’ll have the opportunity to complete courses in:

• Cognitive neuroscience (the connection between the brain and behavior)

Finance is about finding the most effective way to use the money you have, the money you'll make, and the money you'll spend.

UNB’s Finance program will teach you how to plan, manage, and analyze an organization’s financial activities and make important investment decisions that will maximize profits. You’ll learn about key business principles, such as investments, budgets, and mergers and acquisitions, and you’ll explore how individuals and businesses use resources over time.

Drama is available as a concentration within the English major. The requirements for this program are that a student complete the normal English Major requirements in terms of both historical coverage and course restrictions as explained under Major in English, along with courses from relevant drama areas. Drama is also available as a minor within the Bachelor of Arts degree.

Bachelor of Arts
Arts is a four year degree that covers a broad range of subject areas concerned with the study of human beings and the evolution and nature of global societies, ideas, and institutions.

In your first two years of Arts, you will select courses in fields like humanities, languages, social sciences as well as science and business to provide you with a broad foundation for advanced study in your chosen subject area during the final two years.

Software engineering goes beyond programming.  It’s about developing, writing, testing, implementing, and maintaining software systems. It’s the foundation of all computer systems. In other words, our digital world depends on software engineering.

In UNB’s Software Engineering program, you’ll learn how to develop and maintain reliable, safe, affordable, and efficient software systems that satisfy customer requirements. You’ll also gain the skills and knowledge needed to work on large and expensive software systems that often have safety-critical applications.  

Software Engineering is a joint program in the Faculty of Computer Science and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The program is available as a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree.

Comparative Cultural Studies invites students to pursue the study of cultural expressions as significant ways we make meaning of our world. Through critical comparative analysis of culture with a global perspective, we can begin to understand the relationships between ourselves and others around the world. 

Why Comparative Cultural Studies at UNB?
Comparative Cultural Studies is an interdisciplinary program. This means it draws its subject matter and its approaches from a range of areas: literary studies, languages, cultural studies, media and film studies, art history, music studies, etc. Additionally, its focus is international & comparative. You learn about culture(s) and arts across time and geographic regions, in a wide variety of contexts and representations.

One of the first programs of its kind in Canada, Media Arts & Cultures (MAAC) at UNB has offered students a dynamic mix of critical media studies and hands-on creative coursework since 1996. As a MAAC major, you will learn about media by making media. You will consider, critique, and engage intellectually with media, but you will also learn the tools and techniques used today to create media content.

MAAC combines elements of the liberal arts and fine arts – critical thinking and creative expression. Like all Arts majors, you will write research papers and give presentations, but you will also make videos, media remixes, animations, blogs, and video games.

In Media Arts & Cultures, we'll teach you to be both a critical consumer and a creative producer, both a scholar of media and an author of media. You will not only learn from reading textbooks but also from screening a film or playing a game - and then making one yourself.

Hands-on learning
Media Arts & Cultures emphasizes experiential learning throughout the program. You will combine courses in the history and language of film with courses in film production. A course in game studies that examines philosophical reflections on play and games in western culture can be paired with another on contemporary video game design. 

The mysteries of number theory and the geometry of curved spaces: these are areas with important applications in data security, computer design and cosmology. For ages, through research both pure and applied, mathematicians have made invisible and unsung contributions to advancements in science and technology, and the importance of mathematical training is increasingly recognized by employers and governments around the world.

In numerous rankings of careers, a significant portion of the top careers are math-intensive, and a degree in Mathematics provides excellent training.  For instance, CareerCast annually ranks 200 careers according to environment, income, outlook, and stress, and Mathematician, Actuary, Statistician, Data Scientist, Information Security Analyst, and Computer Systems Analyst regularly rank in the top ten.

Two Options

Mathematics:The mathematics major degree is designed to prepare you with a career in industry, government or education. Mathematics students are urged to obtain some expertise in an area of application such as the physical sciences, computer science, engineering or business.

Statistics: The statistics major degree is designed to prepare you with a career in industry or government as well as to provide a background for graduate study. Statistics students are urged to obtain some expertise in an area of applications such as the physical sciences, forestry, or computer science.

• There are summer employment opportunities (e.g. NSERCs Undergraduate Student Research Awards) for upper-year students
• The Faculty of Science has a Co-op degree program

Philosophy investigates many of the big questions of life: what is a human being? Are there such things as justice, beauty or God? What counts as knowledge?

Investigating these and other questions, such as the nature of time, the relation between body and mind, how we define good and bad, is a conversation that draws from great thinkers-­â€-­â€past and present. This is a discipline that challenges each of us to think about these kinds of problems critically, creatively and systematically.

Additionally, you will analyze and deliberate over applications from UNB-led startups to recommend up to two real cash investments each year from the Fraser Student Venture Fund.
