You’ll learn how to recognize opportunities, refine your ideas, and launch businesses. Even if you’re not interested in running your own business, our program will teach you to be creative, strategic, and innovative so that you can help organizations and communities thrive.

Why Entrepreneurship at UNB?
Home to one of the most innovative entrepreneurial ecosystems in the country, UNB was named Canada's most entrepreneurial university by Startup Canada in 2014. You’ll learn from prestigious faculty members, recognized for teaching and research, and from prominent business leaders through partnerships and competitions. At UNB's Fredericton campus you can specialize in entrepreneurship by completing a concentration.

In the six credit hour Venture Assessment course you will work with our partners at the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation (NBIF) to assess startups in their portfolio to determine if they are investment ready. Additionally, you will analyze and deliberate over applications from UNB-led startups to recommend up to two real cash investments each year from the Fraser Student Venture Fund.

Hands-on learning:

• Annual business plan competition – winners can receive cash prizes to launch startups
• Co-operative Education (Co-op) program consisting of a minimum of three four-month work terms. Accredited by the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education.

Skills you will acquire:

• Analyze and communicate financial forecasts
• Develop business plans, including Lean Launch Pad and customer validation approaches

The degree of Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) is offered through the Faculty of Science in partnership with the New Brunswick Community College in Saint John (NBCC-SJ). Enrolment will be limited and based on availability of seats in the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program at NBCC-SJ. Students may enter the program only with approval from the Dean of Science or the program Director.

The BMLS degree requires completion of the MLT program either prior to or after completion of 84 credit hours of courses at UNB. For graduation, students must have completed the UNB portion of the degree as well as 2.5 years of the MLT program at NBCC-SJ and have passed the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) exams required for professional practice.

The Bachelor of Science in Environment and Natural Resources inspires students to solve natural and environmental problems from a holistic, systems perspective. By studying the land, water, air, plants, and people, you’ll learn how to predict and interpret climate change and build a solutions-based career that protects and bolsters natural resources.

This program also provides the opportunity to complete a Wildlife Management Certification or a minor in Marine Biology through the Canadian Rivers Institute

Philosophy investigates many of the big questions of life: what is a human being? Are there such things as justice, beauty or God? What counts as knowledge?

Investigating these and other questions, such as the nature of time, the relation between body and mind, how we define good and bad, is a conversation that draws from great thinkers-­â€-­â€past and present. This is a discipline that challenges each of us to think about these kinds of problems critically, creatively and systematically.

Earth Sciences is the natural science that deals with Earth, the interior make-up, and superficial features, its formative and destructive pro­cesses, its age, history and development through time.

Geologists are concerned with a diverse range of issues such as the origin, migration and quality of groundwater, river and coastal erosion, desert-dune migration, the origin and evolution of oceans and continents, of mountain ranges, valleys and canyons. Studies concerning the causes and effects of natural hazards, such as those created by land and rockslides, earthquakes, floods and droughts, and volcanic eruptions all fall within the realm of Geology.

The Faculty of Science is one of the university’s oldest faculties and was established when UNB was founded in 1785. Our faculty has an outstanding reputation, both nationally and internationally, and as a student you will be able to benefit from its stellar accomplishments in research and for its acclaimed graduate and nationally-accredited undergraduate degree programs. State of the Art Facilities
UNB is home to some of the best and most up-to-date facilities in the country. We are one of only a few universities with an MRI and our chemistry labs are the best in the country. UNB students have access to the following facilities:

Chemistry is the study of the properties of the fundamental building blocks of matter, ranging in size from single hydrogen atoms to complex aggregates of biologically important species. Chemists prepare new compounds and study their composition and structure. This activity, coupled with studies of the way in which chemical reactions occur, allows theories on chemical bonding and reaction to be formulated.

Chemistry can provide the foundation for interesting careers in medicine and medical laboratory work. It can also lead to a career in pharmaceutical design and innovation, or genetic research. Chemistry provides the strong background needed to research and develop discoveries in countless real-world materials, from plastics to foodstuffs to modern materials used in housing, transportation, and computer technology.

The Film Studies Minor offers students from all faculties the opportunity to study film (and video) from a variety of perspectives, including theory, history, and analysis, as well as a range of topics around national cinemas and genres, among others. In addition, students have the opportunity to study film from creative and practical perspectives in production and other practice-driven courses as well as creative writing for the screen. The notion of global interdependence has become a central fact of today's post -modern world. The challenges faced by the emerging countries of the South have an immediate impact on life in Canada.

International Development Studies (IDS) is an interdisciplinary program made to address social, political, and economic issues facing the development of emerging countries in the Global South. The program includes selected courses from the Faculty of Arts at UNB.

IDS provides students with a holistic understanding of today's important issues including the North South dialogue, globalization, poverty, indigenous concerns, ethnic struggles, and sustainable development.

Bachelor of Arts
The IDS program is available as a major, double major or honours option as part of a four-year Bachelor of Arts degree. Arts is a four year program and covers a broad range of subject areas concerned with the study of human beings and the evolution and nature of global societies, ideas, and institutions. In your first two years of the program, you will select courses in fields like humanities, languages, social sciences as well as science and business to provide you with a broad foundation for advanced study in your chosen subject area during the final two years.

Hands-on learning
The IDS program provides students with the opportunity to participate in internship programs both at the local and international levels.

Economists are excited by changing environments and unique challenges. When you study economics, you’re examining decision-making processes at the personal and political level and contributing to a way of thinking that will influence countless social issues, including: poverty, climate change, health care, international development, globalization, immigration, financial institutions, and government regulations.

Economics will prepare you for a career of investigating and analyzing economic events, forecasting trends, and creating efficient policies while innovating current systems.
