Earth Sciences is the natural science that deals with Earth, the interior make-up, and superficial features, its formative and destructive pro­cesses, its age, history and development through time.

Geologists are concerned with a diverse range of issues such as the origin, migration and quality of groundwater, river and coastal erosion, desert-dune migration, the origin and evolution of oceans and continents, of mountain ranges, valleys and canyons. Studies concerning the causes and effects of natural hazards, such as those created by land and rockslides, earthquakes, floods and droughts, and volcanic eruptions all fall within the realm of Geology.

The Faculty of Science is one of the university’s oldest faculties and was established when UNB was founded in 1785. Our faculty has an outstanding reputation, both nationally and internationally, and as a student you will be able to benefit from its stellar accomplishments in research and for its acclaimed graduate and nationally-accredited undergraduate degree programs. Physics is the most fundamental natural science, It examines basic concepts such as energy, force, and spacetime, and all that derives from these, such as mass, charge, matter and its motion. More broadly, it is the general analysis of nature, conducted in order to understand how the world and universe behave.
Physicists want to really understand how the world works, in every detail and at the deepest level. Physicists study questions facing today’s science and technology and are at the forefront of solutions for instrumentation, measurement techniques, and model development in many areas.

Several recent national surveys have indicated that there is a shortage of physicists in almost all parts of Canada. This situation will become even more acute in the next decade, so physicists will continue to find good jobs.

The Physics program is available as a major, double major, minor or honours option as part of a four-year Bachelor of Science degree. Drama is available as a concentration within the English major. The requirements for this program are that a student complete the normal English Major requirements in terms of both historical coverage and course restrictions as explained under Major in English, along with courses from relevant drama areas. Drama is also available as a minor within the Bachelor of Arts degree.

Bachelor of Arts
Arts is a four year degree that covers a broad range of subject areas concerned with the study of human beings and the evolution and nature of global societies, ideas, and institutions.

In your first two years of Arts, you will select courses in fields like humanities, languages, social sciences as well as science and business to provide you with a broad foundation for advanced study in your chosen subject area during the final two years.

The applied physics program incorporates practical physics courses (for example with applications in the energy and the electronics sectors), and allows room for electives in other Faculties such as Engineering and Computer Science.

Gender and Women's Studies gives students an opportunity to explore gender issues in an interdisciplinary context, and it offers a useful complement to other fields. The required courses provide a framework for understanding the gender-based aspects of knowledge, power, and society.

Gender and Women's Studies represents a new approach to knowledge; it examines the gender-based aspects of human experience and women's roles in society. Gender and Women's Studies includes a wide variety of academic disciplines and professions.

One of the first programs of its kind in Canada, Media Arts & Cultures (MAAC) at UNB has offered students a dynamic mix of critical media studies and hands-on creative coursework since 1996. As a MAAC major, you will learn about media by making media. You will consider, critique, and engage intellectually with media, but you will also learn the tools and techniques used today to create media content.

MAAC combines elements of the liberal arts and fine arts – critical thinking and creative expression. Like all Arts majors, you will write research papers and give presentations, but you will also make videos, media remixes, animations, blogs, and video games.

In Media Arts & Cultures, we'll teach you to be both a critical consumer and a creative producer, both a scholar of media and an author of media. You will not only learn from reading textbooks but also from screening a film or playing a game - and then making one yourself.

Hands-on learning
Media Arts & Cultures emphasizes experiential learning throughout the program. You will combine courses in the history and language of film with courses in film production. A course in game studies that examines philosophical reflections on play and games in western culture can be paired with another on contemporary video game design. 

Accounting is the language of business. It tells you if you’re winning or losing – exploding or imploding. Accounting is the language you need to succeed.

You’ll acquire this language through UNB’s Accounting programs by learning how to record, interpret, and report economic data. Once you master this language, you’ll have the answer to key questions: Is your company succeeding or failing? Is it using its resources effectively? What changes should be implemented? What does its future look like?

Why Accounting at UNB?
We offer honours in accounting, which includes the courses needed to qualify for the professional level education program, which is required to become a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). We also offer a concentration in accounting.
