Welcome to centre stage! From practice to theory, from performance to reception, the Department of Theatre explores all aspects of theatrical events and prepares you for a life of creative expression and intellectual stimulation. We teach acting, directing, playwriting, arts administration, dramaturgy, theatre history, production, technical theatre and design as well as theory and aesthetics. When it comes to practice, opportunities abound: the Department boasts two major theatre companies and three student companies producing up to thirty original productions a season.

The School of Translation and Interpretation (STI) offers graduate programs leading to the degrees of Masters of arts in translation studies (MA), Master in Conference Interpreting (MCI) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in translation studies.

The master of Conference Interpreting is a professionally-oriented graduate program intended for graduates who wish to specialize in conference interpreting, which is a branch of the translation profession requiring intensive training. The program is intended for full-time students.

The Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting allows students to build a solid foundation in financial and managerial accounting, auditing and taxation. Students not only learn how to produce accurate financial statements, but also study more complex topics in accounting. 

As part of their program, students are able to specialize and take all the courses required to apply for Ontario's Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, or to be flexible and take a more general accounting stream. 

Our marketing program is designed to teach how and why people and organizations purchase and consume goods and services. Marketing is a system of interacting business and organizational activities designed to plan, develop, price, promote and distribute products and services. The study of marketing concepts has expanded to include an understanding of the environment in which buyers and sellers operate. Recent applications of marketing to formerly unrelated activities, such as political elections and promoting government programs and agencies, are introduced in more advanced courses for analysis and discussion. As a result of the increased breadth of marketing and the complexity and size of the decisions to be made, marketing requires a good knowledge of both the quantitative and the qualitative concepts, models, theories and techniques of the other areas taught at the Telfer School of Management.

Since it deals mainly with issues that have no simple solutions, philosophy emphasizes the exchange of ideas and debate, and thus cultivates an appetite for deep and serious reflection. By reading and discussing the works of the world's great thinkers on fundamental topics like truth, justice, morality and existence, you sharpen your own ability to think clearly, critically and independently. The Department's curriculum has a twin approach, historical and analytical, and covers political and social philosophy, ethics, philosophy of science, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind and logic. 

The BA in Interdisciplinary Studies program is meant for you. It is flexible and provide you not only with a solid general education in a setting known for its vibrancy, but also with the opportunity to take a range of courses in Arts-specific fields (fine arts, humanities, languages and literatures) or even in other faculties. You can also do a minor – but it is not compulsory – in a specific subject, like foreign languages, art history, music, theatre, communication, history, geography, religious studies, linguistics, etc.

Economics
Ever wonder why some countries are richer than others? Ever question why income inequality has been growing? Ever wonder why Canadian politicians worry when other countries may be going bankrupt? Economics can answer all these questions. 

Economics examines how individuals and society make choices in a world where resources are limited. It focuses on the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. Two important themes are efficiency (the absence of waste in the use of resources) and fairness. Since making choices is central to all human activities, studying economics often helps explain why people and governments behave in certain ways.

Political Science
Politics is omnipresent in our lives. Political science seeks to describe, analyze, understand and assess the principles and power relations that govern social life. It revolves as much around the structures and institutions that define these relations and principles as around the ideas and practices that drive them. It studies everything that influences political life and institutions (ideologies, groups, social movements, etc.) on a local, regional, national and international scale.

Our programs offer in-depth training in political science and encourage critical reflection on pivotal issues like citizenship, identity, political participation, globalization and development, governance and the state, and ethics and democracy. A discipline open to many theoretical and methodological approaches, political science constantly exchanges and shares with other fields. At the University of Ottawa's School of Political Studies, you build your knowledge in four subfields of political science: political thought, Canadian and Quebec politics, comparative politics, and international relations and global politics.

Criminology involves the scientific analysis of crime, of the criminalization process, and of social control. Criminology is also an applied discipline in which students explore various forms of intervention to help resolve problems and conflicts. It focuses on five broad phenomena: the nature and dynamics of behaviour that contravenes social norms; the social construction of norms and of the notion of crime; the criminalization of specific behaviours; individuals and groups in social relations; the goals and workings of the criminal justice system; and contemporary forms of intervention.

The University of Ottawa offers a rich academic environment to study mathematics and statistics under the supervision of professors who have gained an international reputation for their research. Most major fields of research in mathematics and statistics are represented within the Department of mathematics and Statistics. Moreover, the Department is a participating unit in the master's level collaborative programs in bioinformatics and in biostatistics.

Established in 1983, the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Physics (OCIP) combines the research strengths of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. The Institute offers graduate programs leading to master’s (MSc) and doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees in Physics.

Research facilities are shared between the two campuses. Students have access to the professors, courses and facilities at both universities; however, they must enroll at the “home university” of the thesis supervisor.
