The Faculty of Science has nearly 1800 undergraduate and graduate students in academic programs leading to Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral degrees, as well as a number of diplomas and certificates. Our work is supported by nearly ninety permanent academic staff and more than thirty administrative and scientific staff. The University of Regina Department of English is a medium-sized department offering courses and research opportunities in most areas of English, American, and Canadian literatures. The size of its student body ensures that students have ample opportunity for intellectual discussion with their peers, but also the close contact with faculty members that larger institutions are unable to provide. The Department currently offers three routes for the MA in English: course-based, Creative Writing, and thesis-based. The course MA (ten courses) provides an opportunity to achieve a breadth of knowledge in many areas of English literature. The thesis MA (five courses plus thesis) provides an opportunity to do in-depth research, and an extended piece of writing, on one area of English literature. The Master's degree is normally the highest offered in the Department of English at the University of Regina, and affords the Department the opportunity for close support of Master’s students and high-priority supervision of Master's theses Both the thesis and course MA offer students excellent preparation for graduate studies at the doctoral level, or for jobs and careers in English. The Department of English is offering an MA in Creative Writing: this degree consists of five courses (in Creative Writing and English Literature/Theory), and a creative thesis with a critical/theoretical introduction.

The Department of Computer Science offers programs of study involving interdepartmental, multi-institutional and inter-institutional collaboration that has attracted faculty members and graduate students from all over the world. Students may pursue full-time or part-time graduate study leading towards the MSc and PhD degrees.

MSc in Computer Science - Human-Centred Computing
A fully-qualified student may complete a Master's in Human-Centred Computing by undertaking 30 credits of coursework. Students in this route who are interested in pursuing the Co-op Designation must complete CS 700, 730, 731, 732, 733, 734, 735, and 736 before they can undertake any co-op work terms.

The bachelor’s degree in electronic systems engineering from the University of Regina in Saskatchewan prepares you to become an effective engineer with career options across many areas of specialty, including:

The Levene Master of Administration in Leadership (M. Admin. Leadership) is a 30 credit hour program and can be completed in two years if taken full-time. Co-operative Education Program
For students who are entering the Master of Administration in Leadership program in their early career with limited professional experience, Co-op work placements offer an opportunity to apply principles learned in class in a working environment.  Co-op students also gain valuable workplace experience proven to add value to the classroom experience for themselves and other students.  The Co-op route also provides an opportunity for early career MAdmin students to secure management level jobs that they might not otherwise have access to. Students must have completed at least four classes, have no failing grades, and normally obtained a minimum CGPA of 75% before applying for co-op.

The Department of Biology has expertise in ecology and evolution, cell and molecular biology and organismal physiology/biochemistry. Our field station is located in the picturesque Cypress Hills of southwestern Saskatchewan, and is used for both field-based research and for upper-level courses. We are also home to the Environmental Quality Analysis Laboratory (EQAL), which houses stable isotope ratio mass spectrometers and other equipment for the analysis of varied environmental parameters. As well, the Department of Biology has modern facilities for molecular biology and related disciplines, is home to the George Ledingham Herbarium and to a modern aquatics facility for housing a variety of aquatic vertebrates. Our faculty and students conduct research in a wide variety of locations across Canada and elsewhere, and have national and international collaborations. The Biology Department also has close connections and collaborations with the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and with various local, provincial, and national agencies.

The social work degree program at the University of Regina gives you a quality generalist social work education that prepares you for a variety of human service career options. The Bachelor of Geographic Information Science (B.GISc) is an innovative program offered by the Department of Geography & Environmental Studies at the University of Regina. The Bachelor of Geographic Information Science is a unique designation that is not offered in this format anywhere else in North America.

Geographic Information Science (GIScience) is the intellectual understanding behind the development and application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). GIS are used by resource exploration companies to locate areas of new reserves, power utilities to plan new power line routes, municipalities to manage their infrastructure, school boards to optimize school bus routing, health districts to examine the spread of infectious diseases, police departments to identify crime hot spots, and businesses to document the geographic distribution and demographics of their customers.

Some of the questions asked in GIScience are:

• What are the implications of using latitude and longitude, a postal code, or a street address to locate a crime scene?
• How do you encode the flight pattern of a butterfly in a computer?
• Is there a spatial correlation between diabetes and socio-economic status?

GIScience is an emerging academic discipline and is being used throughout the world to solve problems in multiple disciplines:

• Biologists use GIS to map the nesting and foraging habitats of endangered wildlife. Environmental engineers have built hydraulic models into GIS to forecast peak river flow conditions.
• Crime mapping with GIS has revolutionized the work done by justice and police professionals.
• Social planners and social workers use GIS to optimize the delivery of social services to segments of the population in most need.
• Business analysts enter data on customer purchasing patterns, demographic trends, and the location of competitors into a GIS to identify ideal locations to establish new business enterprises.
• Health professionals use GIS to track the spread of infectious diseases and to search for the social and environmental conduits along which the viruses travel the fastest.
