Civil engineers build our physical world - roads and buildings, bridges and tunnels, airports and subway systems, water and sewage systems. They may specialize in foundation analysis, building and structural inspection, surveying and municipal planning.

What you will learn

• We’ve redesigned first-year engineering at USask to help you succeed and make engineering more fun. We call the new first year RE-ENGINEERED. It’s the only program of its kind in Canada. It will get you excited and inspired about engineering.
• In RE-ENGINEERED, instead of high-stakes exams, you will do more assignments and quizzes so you can improve your mark if you stumble early. Daily tutorials are part of the schedule so you can get help when you need it. And instead of final exams, you will explore the different branches of engineering in hands-on courses.
• You will choose your engineering specialty – known as your major, or discipline – at the end of your first year. This is the area you will study in-depth in your upper-years classes.

Soil forms an essential part of the environment—affecting or controlling most living things. Soil science studies the soil system to find the best ways of producing food, fuel, and fibre while still preserving soil for use by future generations.

What you will learn
Soil science draws from biology, ecology, geography, geology and a variety of other natural and life sciences. The soil science program at the University of Saskatchewan provides an in-depth understanding of the physical, biological and chemical processes that occur in soil and the role soil plays in plant production and environmental management.

Through innovative programming, integrated on-campus and field study opportunities, and the support of experienced and caring faculty, you will be prepared to succeed from the first day of classes through to graduation.

What you will learn
The Bachelor of Education program is designed for future educators wanting to teach students in a variety of educational institutions, including K to 12 schools. You will specialize in two teaching areas to concentrate your expertise in specific subjects.

Program options
The Bachelor of Education degree is offered by the College of Education. You have two options when completing this program:

• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) - Early/Middle Years Program
• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) - Secondary Program

Early/Middle Years
If you want to teach students in Kindergarten through Grade 8, choose the Early/Middle Years level. The curriculum offers a general approach to various subjects to provide wide exposure to the subjects and teaching methods you will use in early years and middle years classrooms.

As part of your Education degree, you will choose two teaching areas in which to specialize. These subject areas are closely aligned with the Saskatchewan pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 curriculum areas:

• Indigenous studies
• Mathematics
• Modern languages
• Physical education
• Science
• Social sciences / social studies

Studio art develops your creative potential in a wide range of visual media including: painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography and digital imaging as well as mixed media work such as installation and performance.

What you will learn
With an intensive studio experience you will develop your creative talents and become technically proficient in the visual mediums. Exploring technical, aesthetic, and theoretical concerns in a critical setting pertinent to the pursuit of art in our culture will prepare you for careers in the visual arts or arts-related fields.

Advance knowledge and understanding of human diversity and adaptation — past, present, and future — while seeking answers to the most vexing issues and problems affecting our species and our planet

What you will learn
Anthropology is the comprehensive study of human beings, past and present, in comparative, cross-cultural, and holistic light. Archaeology is a sub-discipline of Anthropology that focuses on the study of artifacts and other physical remains of past peoples in order to explore adaptation and cultural diversity over time. The Archaeology and Anthropology program at the University of Saskatchewan offers training that emphasizes the role of culture in past and present human behaviour and diversity, and that exposes students to human evolutionary, environmental, and social development and adaptation. The program demonstrates particular expertise in medical anthropology, environmental anthropology, applied (practicing) anthropology, anthropological archaeology, environmental archaeology, and bioarchaeology. We emphasize community-based and engaged learning, a commitment to reconciliation, and a broad disciplinary foundation in both anthropology and archaeology.

Engineering physics is a bridge between pure and applied science, utilizing fundamental concepts in today’s rapidly changing and highly technical engineering environment. An engineering physicist is motivated by the application of science for advancing technology and sustainability.

Whether you have a business idea or want to drive change in your workplace, the Certificate in Entrepreneurship (CENT) eight-course program encourages you to think outside the box. Foster your creativity, drive change in the workplace, and master the business skills needed to bring your idea to market.

This certificate is offered by the University of Saskatchewan's Edwards School of Business. You may earn the certificate on its own, while pursuing a degree, or after graduating university.
If you are interested in pursuing a degree in business, the Edwards School of Business offers a Bachelor in Commerce with majors in: Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Management, Marketing, and Supply Chain Management.

Archaeology is the study of artifacts and other physical remains of earlier societies and communities in order to unravel the mysteries of human cultural diversity and adaptation. Archaeologists can reconstruct past human behaviours and life ways from tools, shelters, ornaments, food remnants, modified landscapes, and even human remains.

What you will learn
The program focuses on the past peoples of western Canada and the broader Circumpolar North. You will have the opportunity to participate in the excavation of archaeological sites and will learn how to employ a wide variety of laboratory techniques. These include the analyses of artifacts and other archaeological materials such as human and non-human skeletal remains. You will learn how people interacted with past environments and how sociocultural explanations relevant to past human experiences are developed and tested. In sum, you will learn about how and why human behaviour has changed in the past in order to better understand human behavioural changes today and into the future.

Sustainable use of our land, water and plant resources is increasingly recognized as a key societal goal. Resource Science provides essential skills and knowledge in applied sciences and resource management which can be used to influence sustainable development such as rejuvenating disturbed land or reducing greenhouse gas emissions from landscapes.

What you will learn
The Resource Science specialization provides you with hands-on, practical experience in field measurement and assessment. You will learn about:

• Environmental site assessment and soil landscape relationships
• In-field understanding of the spatial relationships of ecosites and soil units
• Remediation and reclamation practices
• Analysis and aggregation of field data
• Application of ecological land classification

What you will learn
You will study performance, composition, music theory, history and literature. You will develop advanced skills with applied study in piano, voice, brass, winds, strings or percussion. You will examine the history of music which will provide you with a rich perspective into music, composers’ lives and their contributions to musical traditions, styles, genres and forms of composition.
