The Bachelor of Music in Performance with a Percussion emphasis is designed to develop in students the highest possible level of musicianship and competency in performance and teaching. The faculty at the Fred Fox School of Music instructs and mentors students in percussion methods, chamber percussion groups and percussion ensembles. The curriculum presents students with a relevant sequence of study of all the percussion instruments. Students acquire performance skills and experience in solo and ensemble performance; historical and stylistic understanding; mastery of technical facility; and pedagogical concepts of teaching procedure and practice.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Explore the concepts of ecology and genetics in an evolutionary context in the first department of its kind in the world. The field of ecology and evolutionary biology deals with the integration of biological systems across all levels of organization, from molecular biology to global ecosystems. This Bachelor of Science is for the student planning to pursue graduate study or a career in ecology and evolutionary biology, or a related scientific field. The Bachelor of Arts prepares students for careers that require having scientific knowledge, such as scientific journalism, developing environmental and scientific policy or practicing law in related fields. The curriculum includes core courses in genetics, ecology and evolution, with additional study through involvement in independent research, usually by working in the labs of our faculty. Students also have access to certain field courses.

Environmental engineering students learn ways to minimize pollutants and waste and protect the earth's resources. Environmental engineers develop methods for clean manufacturing, wastewater treatment and water purification, alternative energy, and sustainable building. Students earning their Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering at the University of Arizona work under the umbrella of the Chemical and Environmental Engineering Department, gaining in-depth knowledge of process engineering for transforming waste into useful products and cleaning up contaminants in soil and groundwater. Arizona is one of only a handful of institutions nationwide to offer this setup. In addition to the required 23 units of rigorous language-based courses, students select seven units of historical- and cultural-based electives from the Russian and Slavic Studies Department. The Bachelor of Arts with a Digital Journalism emphasis provides students with a solid foundation in journalism reporting and ethics while helping them develop the digital skills they need to excel in the world of online reporting. Journalism students learn to gather information, interview subjects, analyze the content, distill it and then communicate to an audience effectively, accurately, quickly and ethically. Student seeking a Digital Journalism emphasis also hone advanced skills ranging from media entrepreneurship and app development to visual storytelling and data mining that further prepare them for this rapidly evolving field. A second major or a minor in a specialized field, such as political science, religion or Middle Eastern studies, is required.

Learn how a Thematic emphasis within the Neuroscience and Cognitive Science major allows you to focus on a specific topic of interest. Neuroscience and cognitive science are broad areas of scientific study. Students seeking the Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science with a Thematic emphasis can choose an in-depth topical focus that matches their future career, research or study goals. The Thematic emphasis is meant for students who have a clear and compelling interest in a particular topic area in neuroscience and cognitive science that falls outside the scope of the major's several other emphases. Students wishing to choose a Thematic focus will be required to explain to faculty what the topic area is and why it doesn't align with the current emphases, as well as support the objectives of their coursework. As with the other emphases, research and independent study can be used for up to six of the 15 credits required to complete an emphasis.
