Prepare to become a change-maker and a thought leader in a global economy that spans the Caribbean, North America, Latin America, Africa and Europe. The Bachelor of Arts in Africana Studies investigates the historical and contemporary experiences of Africana peoples and how they are shaped by gender, class, race and global conditions. Students choose from one of three emphases: African American History, Culture & Aesthetics; Comparative Global African Diaspora; or Performance, Media, & Digital Africana Studies. This interdisciplinary major gives students essential professional skills applicable to many careers, including the ability to understand people from any background; writing; critical thinking; public speaking; creativity; leadership; and initiative. Classes focus on literature, history, culture, film, technology, arts, politics and more. The program is a leader in digital learning and boasts the nation's first Hip-Hop minor. Students are supported by faculty and a network of community leaders, with opportunities for internships, study abroad and more.

Students seeking a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology with a subplan in Molecular and Cellular Biology take courses in genetics, physics, chemistry and more. They gain hands-on experience in laboratory research through independent study, honors thesis work and capstone experiences. Full-time, paid summer research opportunities with renowned faculty are also available. Plus, the Molecular and Cellular Biology Club provides camaraderie with fellow students. • Explain the role of and mechanisms by which the genome and its products generate biological structures and phenotypes, including human disease, including: ¿ Differentiate among replication, transcription, and translation with regard to mechanisms and biological roles. ¿ Analyze mechanisms of inheritance and their consequences for phenotypes. ¿ Differentiate among various types of mutations and predict their outcomes at the molecular, cellular, and organismal level.

The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism focuses on reporting the news for radio, television and multimedia outlets. The program of study touches on important aspects of journalism such as law and ethics before diving into hands-on learning. Broadcast majors write, report, fact-check, shoot, produce and edit hard-news features and in-depth stories for broadcast and the web, culminating in quality news reports that can be included on reels to share with prospective employers. Electives in digital media, such as drone videography or mobile app development, can further prepare students for this ever-evolving field. The instructors at the Fred Fox School of Music provide weekly master classes, enabling students to collaborate, perform and learn together. Students benefit from one-on-one mentoring that trains them to be exemplary performers. The school offers a variety of musical experiences, including more than 300 concerts and recitals each year, as well as invites artists, scholars and clinicians from around the world for concerts, workshops, lectures, clinics and master classes.

If a career in Spanish language translation or interpretation interests you, the University of Arizona has a specific Spanish major emphasis to train students at the undergraduate level. The Bachelor of Science in Food Safety is housed within the School of Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences and looks at how food science, regulation and law pertain to public and ecosystem health and sustainability. Projections estimate the food sector will need to safely produce, package and distribute sustenance for 9 billion people by 2050. Whether you possess a natural talent for rhythm or wish to develop one, your studies in percussion will grant you a diverse range of professional opportunities. The Bachelor of Music in Performance with a Percussion emphasis is designed to develop in students the highest possible level of musicianship and competency in performance and teaching. The faculty at the Fred Fox School of Music instructs and mentors students in percussion methods, chamber percussion groups and percussion ensembles. The curriculum presents students with a relevant sequence of study of all the percussion instruments. Students acquire performance skills and experience in solo and ensemble performance; historical and stylistic understanding; mastery of technical facility; and pedagogical concepts of teaching procedure and practice.

Big data is changing the world. Offered through the Department of Mathematics, this degree prepares you to take part in the data revolution. Students earning a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Statistics and Data Science will have a solid foundation in mathematics. Yet they focus on the capture, maintenance, processing, analysis and communication of data through immersion in courses in probability, statistics, data science and computer programming. Undergraduates also must complete a minor outside the Department of Mathematics. The B.A. and B.S. allow students to pursue graduate degrees or careers in analytics, risk assessment, finance, and other math- and science-related fields.
