Political science is the study of government, public policy and the political behavior of individuals and groups. For the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with an emphasis in American Politics, students grasp the foundations of political theory, and explore institutions, international relations, foreign affairs, and ideas and methods. They also delve into the unique systems, history and dynamics at play in the United States. Students develop strong analytical, argumentation and communication skills, and have access to internships at nonprofit organizations and government agencies, such as the Arizona Legislature and the Arizona Superior Court, and with local politicians and campaigns.

Mexican American Studies examines the Mexican American experience as informed by social and health sciences, history, law and humanities. Students in this Bachelor of Arts major gain insight into how government and public policy, minority health disparities, urban planning, law, immigration, language and more affect the Mexican American population. Current U.S. demographic trends show that Mexican Americans live and work in the Southwest, the Midwest and the South, and many of these communities need people who are knowledgeable about the challenges and trajectories of Mexican Americans. With its own recording studio and a host of performance ensembles, the Fred Fox School of Music is one of the highest-ranked in the nation. Students seeking their Bachelor of Music in Performance with a String Bass emphasis take 89 units of music courses. In addition to choosing electives, students satisfy core classes in music literature, music history, pedagogy, orchestration, conducting, piano and applied lessons. As part of the requirements, they audition for placement in a large conducted ensemble, where they'll have the opportunity to perform with other high-caliber student musicians.

The Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry uses chemistry as a tool to examine the molecular processes of life. Biochemistry is at the core of life sciences, and biochemical knowledge provides the underpinning for a variety of disciplines, from medicine to agriculture to engineering. In this program, students take coursework from award-winning faculty whose research and expertise include diverse specialties: protein structure and function, molecular genetics, medicinal biochemistry, optics, physics and more. Students hone communication and presentation skills; learn report writing, analytical thinking and research methods; and develop proficiency in mathematics and information technology. The Sustainable Communities Emphasis of the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments program guides students to discover how local and regional planning creates more sustainable communities. Students explore climate action planning, transportation planning and urban development and build critical thinking skills and a solutions-based approach to navigate the urban challenges of the present and future. Students also learn how planning impacts and is influenced by the environment, and how to make cities more sustainable and resilient. This program prepares students to begin careers in sustainable communities and also serves as a strong launchpad for graduate studies.

A focus on applied mathematics prepares you to enter the job market with an undergraduate degree or to attend graduate school for science or engineering. Applied mathematicians use mathematical models to solve complex problems. Students earning a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with an Applied Mathematics emphasis engage in interdisciplinary study with core mathematics courses and a minor that is independent of the Department of Mathematics. They master a variety of mathematical problem-solving methods. The world has thousands of languages. Study linguistics to understand the root of all language: human connection and communication. Linguistics is concerned with the nature of language and communication. Particularly, how humans learn language and how language influences the ways people interact and think about the world. In the Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics with an emphasis in Linguistics and Languages, students acquire an understanding of how language is structured in phonology, morphology, syntax both in a general sense and regarding specific languages. Students also learn how languages vary and discover the unconscious knowledge that all humans possess about language. The renowned faculty includes preeminent linguist Noam Chomsky, as well as experts in language documentation and revitalization, especially for Native American languages.

Learn how animals, science and business work together to further industry, education, and environmental and human health. The Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences with an Animal Industry emphasis takes an interdisciplinary approach to educating students on how business and animal science pair in industries such as dairy production, food safety, research, marketing and more. Coursework includes business law and accounting and marketing principles, as well as science-based classes such as microbiology and physiology. The Animal Industry emphasis enables students to tailor the degree to their interests by allowing them five major elective courses in the following areas: Animal and Biomedical Sciences, Microbiology, Natural Resources, Agricultural & Resource Economics, and Molecular and Cellular Biology.
