The Creative Writing program offers students the opportunity to develop their skills for creative written expression. Workshops led by an internationally renowned faculty aim to help students write well-crafted and compelling works of prose and poetry. Additionally, coursework in literature and literary analysis teaches critical thinking and research efficiencies, while classes in publishing share real-world insights into the writing profession. This Bachelor of Arts program of study not only gives students widely applicable tools that can be used across myriad industries, but it also offers a Professional and Technical Writing certificate and grants access to some of today's most important and influential writers.

Students earning a Bachelor of Music in Performance with an emphasis in the French Horn learn from and interact with the Fred Fox School of Music's esteemed faculty. Dedicated to honing student talent, the faculty members are equally at home in the classroom, studio and on the stage. Along with individualized instruction and mentoring, performance faculty members regularly appear in solo recitals and as guest artists with major opera companies, symphony orchestras, chamber groups and other ensembles. The school offers students a variety of musical experiences from technical instruction to performing opportunities and presents hundreds of concerts a year.

Biomedical engineers develop medical technologies in areas such as biomaterials, biosensors, wearable devices and imaging systems to improve people's lives. The Biomedical Engineering Bachelor of Science is geared to students looking to combine strong engineering skills and knowledge of biological sciences. Individualized degree plans are organized around three main areas of study: biomaterials to support or replace damaged tissue, biomechanics for supporting anatomical movement, and biosensors and microtechnologies to improve disease detection and management. Most Biomedical Engineering majors do high-profile research with faculty and complete sponsored senior design projects, which help launch their careers or entry into medical or graduate school. The B.S. in Biomedical Engineering is an approved pre-med program.

A major in Art History offers students a critical view of the role of art in culture and politics from prehistory to the modern era. Coursework offers comprehensive studies in the history of art through rigorous visual analysis, engagement with current scholarship and the application of various methodological approaches. Students gain wide knowledge of the history of art through introductory courses and then take specialty courses in areas including early modern Europe, the history of photography, Latin America, modern and contemporary, among others. Flute studies at the Fred Fox School of Music include weekly private lessons, a weekly studio master class, small group technique classes, flute pedagogy and more. Along with applied study, students earning the Bachelor of Music in Performance with a Flute emphasis perform solo, chamber, concerto, orchestral and wind ensemble repertoire for live performances, competitions and recordings. They focus on performance objectives; develop important kinesiological habits; condense music theory, history and physiology in a simplified, interpretative way; and train the body's physical performance mechanisms. Students are encouraged to seek national and international recognition through competitions, festival performances and scholarly publications.

If you're interested in environmental health, protection of natural resources, and safety for workers and communities, consider a Public Health major with an Environmental and Occupational Health emphasis. Public health professionals specializing in environmental and occupational health help protect communities and workers from health risks such as contaminates or hazardous living or working conditions. The University of Arizona's Bachelor of Science in Public Health is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. Students choosing the Environmental and Occupational Health emphasis focus on environmental justice, public health preparedness, industrial impact, sanitation, and safety fundamentals. Food studies is a rapidly growing field in North America as the demand increases for experts in food-related policy, food justice and food culture. Students in this new Bachelor of Arts program (offered in collaboration with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences) prepare to become change-makers in the world's food system through an interdisciplinary approach to examining food in all its dimensions: cultural, economic, health and environmental. Tucson is an ideal setting for food studies; it recently earned the coveted honor of a UNESCO City of Gastronomy and was the first city in the U.S. to gain the designation.

Follow in the footsteps of past and present feminist icons to become a leader in the movement toward gender equality across all fronts. Founded in 1975 and led by a renowned faculty, the Gender and Women's Studies department at the University of Arizona stands at the forefront of feminist research and curriculum. The Bachelor of Arts in Gender and Women's Studies is an interdisciplinary program that works to contest historical, ongoing and pervasive oppression based on gender, race, sexuality, class, ability and citizenship.
