It deals with the exploration of particular languages and the search for general properties common to all languages or large groups of languages. In this Bachelor of Arts program, students complete coursework in the basics of linguistics, such as phonetics (sound patterns), morphology (how words are built) and syntax (sentence structure), as well as how humans use language, such as pragmatics (language in context) and sociolinguistics (language and culture). Gender and Women's Studies is an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts that works to contest historical, ongoing and pervasive oppression based on gender, race, sexuality, class, ability and citizenship. Students can opt for an emphasis in Chicana and Latina Studies, a course of study that works with the Gender and Women's Studies department's prestigious Southwest Institute for Research on Women (SIROW). Established in 1979, SIROW develops research-action projects of importance to women in the Southwestern U.S. and the Mexico-U.S. border regions. The Gender and Women's Studies department, founded in 1975 and led by a renowned faculty, stands at the forefront of feminist research and curriculum.

The Bachelor of Music in Music Education curriculum prepares students to become music teachers, offering K-12 certification in instrumental, vocal and general music classrooms. Graduates are certified to teach all aspects of music in any grade from kindergarten through high school and go on to secure positions in elementary, secondary and collegiate level institutions across the country and around the world. Law provides the base for many professions, from human rights advocacy to politics, and the rigorous academics involved give students a highly sought-after set of skills. The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science offers an emphasis in Soil, Air and Water. Students who opt for this track gain a broad scientific understanding of human influence on the natural world, from the molecular level to a global scale. Through work in classrooms, in labs and in the field, students learn how to properly collect soil, water and air samples, identify and implement appropriate analytical techniques, and interpret results. They also gain a deeper understanding of how environmental systems sustain climate, purify water, provide food and fiber, and remediate pollution.

The Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences with an Animal Industry emphasis takes an interdisciplinary approach to educating students on how business and animal science pair in industries such as dairy production, food safety, research, marketing and more. Coursework includes business law and accounting and marketing principles, as well as science-based classes such as microbiology and physiology. The Animal Industry emphasis enables students to tailor the degree to their interests by allowing them five major elective courses in the following areas: Animal and Biomedical Sciences, Microbiology, Natural Resources, Agricultural & Resource Economics, and Molecular and Cellular Biology. The Sustainable Communities Emphasis of the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments program guides students to discover how local and regional planning creates more sustainable communities. Students explore climate action planning, transportation planning and urban development and build critical thinking skills and a solutions-based approach to navigate the urban challenges of the present and future. Students also learn how planning impacts and is influenced by the environment, and how to make cities more sustainable and resilient.
