You will choose half of the 16 psychology classes you need to take for your major – a more thorough curriculum than many other programs.  Required courses include very popular topics like Abnormal Psychology and Developmental Psychology. You will also have the opportunity to declare a minor of your choice, to further tailor your education for your particular interests.

You will also learn how to conduct professional-level research, completing an independent senior research project – a great opportunity to join our growing number of published undergraduates.

Find your passions with internships at places like the District Attorney’s Office of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia School District; or while studying abroad anywhere in the world - like Italy, Australia, and the prestigious Danish Institute for Study Abroad in Denmark, just to name a few.

We investigate issues and institutions through the lenses of law, sociology, criminology, psychology, ethics, economics, culture, science, history, politics and political science. We build critical thinking skills and communications skills while we effectively debate. We actively examine legal systems, courts and conceptions of justice and human rights within both the American and international contexts. The M.S. in Architecture program is an advanced post-professional, research- based degree, featuring two concentrations: Façade Design and Technology and High Performance Building. This degree prepares students for specialist and consulting positions in the broad field of the built environment in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry.

Recognizing that the architecture profession is constantly changing, the program is designed to fit current industry needs and is adaptable as requirements and expertise evolves. As a student in this program, you will have the opportunity to focus your studies on a specific area of architecture to directly apply your research to your current work or to fit your career path. The MS provides its graduates with an additional credential that enables them to pursue research and entrepreneurial practices, careers in academia or expand the knowledge of the profession. It is expected that students will have previous experience in the technical and professional aspects of building design with a degree in architecture, engineering or other related field. The typical program length is three or four semesters.

Thomas Jefferson University’s Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) is a five-year professional degree program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). Students receive an industry-centered, liberal arts-infused education, blending academic scholarship with hands-on, professional learning. The program encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, and most of our faculty members are practicing industry professionals. As architectural practices evolve rapidly to meet new environmental, economic and societal challenges, our curriculum’s unique focus on market-driven innovation and sustainability gives students a competitive advantage in the industry. Instruction goes beyond the classroom to include industry partnerships, community engagement projects, study abroad, and internships with architectural firms in Philadelphia. As a transformative force in professional education, Jefferson gives students a working knowledge of the industry so they may contribute to a firm immediately, present work professionally, and think critically. Graduates are well-prepared for leadership roles as stewards of sustainability and to work with top firms worldwide.

In this program, you will study psychology alongside biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, making this an ideal first step into further studies in a variety of experimental psychology settings, neuroscience, health fields, and scientific research.

You will work closely with faculty to develop an avenue of career possibilities. First, you select a concentration option – pre-medical or graduate school – allowing you to adapt your curriculum to your career goals and interests.

Ranked 7th in the U.S. and 4th in the East by DesignIntelligence, the M.S. in Industrial Design is a professional program based on interdisciplinary project work. In this program, you will learn to design effectively at the collaborative and chaotic “front end” of the product-development process. You will work with product users, researchers, businesspeople, engineers and manufacturers to create products and systems that are better at serving their users, societies and the world at large.

We like busy people, because busy people are ambitious, curious people. Many of our courses are taught in the afternoon and evening, to allow flexible scheduling for students who have outside obligations.

Our students are smart, curious and diverse, with undergraduate backgrounds as disparate as economics, philosophy, technology education, mechanical engineering and architecture, as well as some with undergraduate ID degrees. International students are warmly welcomed.

The M.S. in Industrial Design will prepare you for entrepreneurial work in the field, or for a position in a corporate design department or design consulting firm.

The Human Genetics and Genetic Counseling MS program will provide students integrative education and training to become compassionate and knowledgeable genetic counselors.

Learning Outcomes

• Jefferson College of Life Sciences launched our MS program in Human Genetics & Genetic Counseling, in the Fall of 2017.  
• Employment of genetic counselors is projected to grow 21% from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. There are only 48 graduate genetic counseling programs in the country.  Placement of a new genetic counseling program within the rich clinical and health science environment of the Jefferson enterprise would provide students significant competitive advantage.

The MS Program in Forensic Biology is an exclusive program designed to position students for advancement and professional development in the specific field of forensic biology.

This is a full-time, two-year program with courses taught at both the Jefferson Center City campus as well as at The Center for Forensic Science Research & Education laboratory in Willow Grove, PA.  One of the aspects which sets our forensic biology program apart from other universities is that students will be working adjacent to a fully-functioning, ISO-17025 accredited, private DNA laboratory. Instead of spending the duration of the program in a classroom, Jefferson  students will be learning within an actual forensic laboratory and working alongside practicing scientists who serve as faculty and mentors. This teaching setting allows our students to engage first-hand in crime lab operation, offering an unparalleled educational experience.

Our specialized program will provide students with expertise in all areas of forensic biology, including:

• Serological Identification of Biological Fluids & Tissues
• Forensic DNA Analysis & Interpretation
• Molecular Biology & Genetics

Another unique aspect of our program is the highly focused curriculum specifically tailored to focus on the biological aspects of the forensic sciences. Our program allows access to the same instrumentation currently used in the nation’s top crime labs, a guaranteed internship, career readiness training, and business management and leadership coursework to help prepare future leaders in forensic science.  Overall, the curricular content more than exceeds the requirements set forth by the Quality Assurance Standards for Forensic DNA Testing Laboratories which require 12 undergraduate and graduate credits on topics including biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology and statistics for laboratory technical leaders.

The Master of Science Program in Biomedical Sciences prepares graduates for positions as clinical laboratory managers, consultants, research associates and research scientists in the pharmaceutical/ biotechnology industry or medical toxicology.

Flexibility is the key.

The Master of Science Program in Cell & Developmental Biology prepares its graduates for positions in research and development in academia, industry and government. Graduates may be employed as basic research scientists in academic institutions and industrial positions, or may go on to further study in PhD and professional doctoral programs.

This program consists of a core basic science curriculum in cell and developmental biology, supplemented with elective courses suited to individual career interests in the basic sciences or in management. Students in our program receive training in theoretical, experimental and practical aspects of normal cell development as well as abnormal aspects of these processes, which may cause birth defects or disease.
The program may be completed on a part-time or accelerated (coursework) schedule over a period of 1.5 to four years. Courses are offered late afternoon/early evening and meet once per week, allowing students the flexibility to work while taking classes or devote their full attention to their studies. Flexibility is the key.
