Behavior analysis is a well-developed approach to solving social/emotional, behavioral, and learning problems for many different populations in many different settings. The Department of Psychology's master's program in Behavior Analysis focuses on the experimental, theoretical, methodological, and analysis of behaviors of individuals and how these behaviors denote different types of learning processes or problems. The processes of behavior analysis are used most widely with clinical populations in the area of developmental disabilities, including but not limited to clients diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum and/or intellectually impaired.

Economics is a subject area that impacts every industry, culture, and individual. It focuses on how people, groups, corporations, and countries attempt to allocate limited resources to satisfy humanity’s needs for money, goods, and services.

As an economics major, you will learn how to create plans to forecast and address societal issues such as unemployment, inflation and environmental maintenance. Cutting-edge courses teach you the latest strategies and resources in economics, including microeconomic analysis, statistics and business trends in marketing, finance, information technologies, money and banking, public finance and taxation, economics and the law, government spending, and labor management.

The writing concentration explores various forms of creative expression through course work in literature, creative writing and non-fiction writing. Students pursuing this concentration have the opportunity to take courses in “Academic Writing” (expository, argumentative, creative writing), “Performance Writing” (screenplays, teleplays), “Writing for the Marketplace” (business, public relations), and “Rhetorical Theory” (ancient and modern).

The 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Social Work will prepare you to enter the workforce, launching a career of helping people cope with life’s challenges and advocating for a just society, as well as continuing to graduate-level education.  We offer liberal arts-based, relationship-centered education where students form close connections with their professors and each other. The curriculum includes courses related to policy, practice, human development and social systems’ behavior, research as well as practicum-related seminars. Students learn the social work foundation of knowledge, skills and values through small class engagement with stimulating topics, role plays, case studies, videos, TED talks, close reading and reflective writing. They engage (in the Junior and Senior years) infield practice in diverse settings including schools, homeless shelters, child and family counseling centers, charitable organizations, senior citizen facilities and social service agencies. Beyond the classroom and field placement, we offer a very active student club, which provides you with opportunities for numerous exciting community service activities.

The Art Therapy programs in the Department of Art explore the interaction of the visual arts with psychological theories and practice.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Art Therapy provides training for undergraduate students who wish to use their creative skills in a variety of health care environments. The program emphasizes preparation for graduate training in clinical art therapy.

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science provides you with the knowledge and technical skills necessary to design and develop complex software systems. The Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising and minor program offer students unique access to the exciting, high-powered fashion industry.

Instructed by industry experts, the Fashion Merchandising curriculum integrates an experiential learning component through our student-run clothing boutique, The Student Body, where you will contribute to the retail store’s success by helping to choose inventory, manage operations, and advertise to the campus community. The Bachelor of Science in Communications is designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed for careers in today’s expanding media world.

The program provides technical experiences in the creation of digital moving images, electronic journalism, audio technology, as well as the fundamentals of researching, reporting, and writing, across many media platforms. The project-based curriculum is structured to develop creative capacities in both individual and group work, foster critical thinking, and cultural awareness, helping to prepare students to live in today’s multi-faceted society.

The B.S. in Business Administration focuses on the roles and behaviors necessary to become an effective manager: planning, organizing, problem-solving, leading, operating and controlling. The degree equips students with the professional skills to run a successful & competitive company, and to productively interact with customers, employees and shareholders. Through specialized courses in organizational behavior, business and society, international management and cross-cultural behavior, and creating and managing a small business, you will develop a broad knowledge of the inner workings of all types of commerce.

The field of actuarial science applies mathematical principles and techniques to assess risk in insurance, finance, and other industries and professions. Actuaries hold positions of responsibility with insurance companies, consulting firms, investment banks, government regulatory organizations, and government insurance programs.

Progress in the field is based upon completion of examinations given by the Society of Actuaries (SOA). The LIU Post major is designed to prepare students to pass the first three SOA examinations as well as complete the three required Validated by Educational Experience (VEE) courses. Students interested in this highly structured program are urged to contact the Department of Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics as early as possible to aid in formulating an appropriate course of study.
