The 120-credit B.S. in Health Sciences is a science-based major designed for freshman and transfer students who aspire to careers in a variety of health-related fields, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, pharmacy, physician assistant, medical imaging or health information management.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater Arts with a concentration in Musical Theatre provides personalized and intensive classroom instruction and stage experience to prepare students for performance careers in Musical Theatre. Students receive a rigorous grounding in history, literature, theories and methodologies of classical and contemporary theatre arts, and work with professional musicians, actors and playwrights. Students also have a variety of opportunities to perform in main stage productions directed by renowned New York City directors. The 120-credit program is selective and acceptance into the program requires an audition.

The musical theatre concentration draws from the Suzuki, Stanislavsky, Chekhov and Linklater techniques with concentrated study in techniques and approaches to musical theatre. The core program, taught by professional theatre artists, emphasizes development of a riveting stage presence based on dynamic physicality, emotional authenticity and a commanding voice.

Few art forms are as expressive and personal as dance – and few have the same power to inspire, delight, and communicate across cultures. The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Studies at LIU Post is an excellent foundation for a career in dance performance, dance education or dance criticism. A pre-professional, process-based and performance-oriented program, this 120-credit degree explores the wide variety of roles for dance professionals and surveys the world’s great dance traditions, from African and Asian dance to modern, jazz, ballet and tap. Combining advanced education in dance and theatrical production with opportunities to develop specific skills through training and sustained practice, all in the context of a strong liberal arts program, the B.F.A. in Dance Studies teaches the art form and not just technique.

The prestigious Roosevelt School’s Bachelor of Arts in International Relations & Diplomacy prepares graduates for domestic and international leadership positions. The International Relations and Diplomacy’s vibrant curriculum engages students in a comprehensive examination of international politics, negotiation and leadership. Coursework is supplemented by internships at renowned institutions, including the United Nations, for a richer understanding of international affairs. These educational and occupational experiences will prepare you for positions with multinational corporations, private foundations, think tanks, non-profit organizations and government agencies, and are excellent preparation for graduate study.

The 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Social Work will prepare you to enter the workforce, launching a career of helping people cope with life’s challenges and advocating for a just society, as well as continuing to graduate-level education.  We offer liberal arts-based, relationship-centered education where students form close connections with their professors and each other. The curriculum includes courses related to policy, practice, human development and social systems’ behavior, research as well as practicum-related seminars. Students learn the social work foundation of knowledge, skills and values through small class engagement with stimulating topics, role plays, case studies, videos, TED talks, close reading and reflective writing. They engage (in the Junior and Senior years) infield practice in diverse settings including schools, homeless shelters, child and family counseling centers, charitable organizations, senior citizen facilities and social service agencies. Beyond the classroom and field placement, we offer a very active student club, which provides you with opportunities for numerous exciting community service activities.

Mental health counselors work with individuals, families, and groups to address and treat mental and emotional disorders and to promote mental health. They are trained in a variety of therapeutic techniques used to address issues such as depression, anxiety, addiction and substance abuse, suicidal impulses, stress, trauma, low self-esteem, and grief. They also help with job and career concerns, educational decisions, mental and emotional health issues, and relationship problems. In addition, they may be involved in community outreach, advocacy, and mediation activities. Some specialize in delivering mental health services for the elderly. Mental health counselors often work closely with other mental health specialists, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatric nurses, and school counselors. Mental health counselors work in community health and social service organizations, day treatment programs, outpatient mental health clinics, hospitals, or private practice.

The 60-credit M.S. in Mental Health Counseling provides students with core knowledge to be effective helpers in a variety of clinical settings. The program covers professional issues and ethics, counseling theories, human development, counseling skills, group work, assessment and career development. Building upon these core content areas, the mental health counseling program focuses specifically on the development of knowledge and skills necessary to work in a variety of clinical settings, such as: foundations of mental health counseling; research; evidence-based practice; program evaluation; psychopathology and psychopharmacology.

A major in biology will automatically fulfill the requirements for admission to almost all graduate programs as well as most medical, dental, and veterinary schools. This degree program covers the fundamentals of biology with opportunities to explore a wide range of subjects such as primate anatomy, human genetics, the plant kingdom, marine biology and microbiology.

The Bachelor of Science degree is ideal for those planning to become doctors, dentists or veterinarians and includes courses in mathematics and computer science. This program is also excellent preparation for such careers as biologist, ecologist, botanist, oceanographer, geneticist, chiropractor, medical technologist, pharmacologist, educator, researcher or nutritionist, to name a few.

Concentrations
The Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at LIU Post offers three concentrations within the B.S. in Biology degree program: Pre-medical Sciences; Molecular Genetics-Cell; and Ecology, Evolution and Behavior. The concentrations provide the academic foundation for future admission into medical, dental or veterinary schools and other health and scientific fields.

As part of the curriculum, students conduct a year of research in a professional laboratory and receive hands-on knowledge in scientific research methods and techniques. This experience will provide the student with an advantage when applying for admission to graduate or professional school.

To prepare the workforce of the future, the 30- credit M.S. in Artificial Intelligence (AI) aims to educate and train skilled leaders to create AI applications and AI systems that are designed to solve complex real-world challenges and problems across many industry domains. The purpose of the program is to achieve this latter goal while addressing the emerging needs of the market. Additionally, the new program, with its faculty and students, aims to accelerate multidisciplinary research and discovery in LIU emerging signature areas: health, pharmaceutics, pharmacological engineering, bioinformatics, and business among others. The program will create new opportunities for research and economic development.

Clinical Laboratory Scientists are highly skilled professionals who are qualified by passing the national certification examination and licensed by NY State to work in a several departments of a clinical laboratory including hematology, microbiology, immunohematology, chemistry, immunology and molecular diagnostics (CLS generalist). They play a key role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and illnesses. Using sophisticated laboratory analyzers, CLS generalists perform tests and analyze cells, blood and other body fluids to detect abnormalities. They are a vital source of diagnostic information to doctors who use the test results to determine and monitor a course of treatment for patients.

The B.S. CLS program and the corresponding MS CLS program, are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS, 5600 N. River Rd., Suite 720, Rosemont, IL, 60018-5119; 773.714.8880; [email protected]), which is the national accrediting body for CLS programs. The goals of the programs are to exceed the NAACLS specified benchmarks for certification exam pass rate, graduation rate and employment rate. This program integrates a complex level of didactic theoretical and technical instruction. Following successful completion of the CLS didactic courses, students are selected for the practicum by competitively placement into clinical sites contracted with LIU Post- a list of the sites is shown below. Students successfully completing the practicum are eligible to take the ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) national certification examinations for a CLS generalist. Certification is necessary for employment nation-wide and is required for licensure in New York State. Conferral of the B.S. in Clinical Laboratory Science degree is not contingent upon passing a certification or licensure exam.

The 120-credit Bachelor of Arts in Psychology is a popular and versatile undergraduate degree. It can be applied to almost any area of work, including social services, law, human resources, business and government. Courses in this program explore how people learn, what lies behind people’s behavior, how the brain affects behavior, how gender affects development and the different ways in which people interact. Elective courses will introduce you to interesting and relevant topics including forensic psychology, psychosomatics, and industrial and organizational psychology.
