The Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics prepares graduates for rewarding careers as nutritionists, dietitians, wellness experts, food service managers, and community counselors. The four-year, 120-credit program provides students with a basic liberal arts and strong science education, and the knowledge required to understand nutrition. Students take courses in biology, chemistry and statistics and master such subjects as normal nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, community nutrition, institutional food service management, cultural and social aspects of food, energy and exercise, and food technology. The program also prepares students to apply their knowledge of nutrition to promote healthy eating and lifestyle choices among individuals and groups as well as those with special nutritional needs. The goal of the program is to develop a graduate who meets the foundation knowledge and skills required by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

The 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology will prepare you for a career helping people of all ages overcome communication disorders—from young children who stutter to stroke victims struggling to speak again.

Along with a comprehensive liberal arts education, the curriculum offers coursework in normal and disordered communication. Students observe adults and children with speech and/or language disorders in community-based settings. A limited field-based experience may also be available to qualified students. Graduates of this program are ready to advance to master’s-level study and work toward a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing-Association, as well as New York State licensure and certification as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD).

The Bachelor of Science degree program in Artificial Intelligence is one of the first degrees of its kind in the country. Students of this program will build the foundational knowledge necessary to design computational systems that exhibit “human-like intelligence” such as the ability to interpret sensory input, learn from experience, understand human language, and support intelligent decision-making. Graduates will have the skill-set necessary to meet industry demand for workers able to contribute to research and development in Artificial Intelligence across all industry sectors. The program begins with introductory courses in programming, computer science, mathematics, and statistics that provide a firm technical foundation. The curriculum then introduces core artificial intelligence concepts and techniques including state-space search, game-playing, machine learning, neural networks, and deep learning with applications to various domains (e.g. computer vision, natural language processing and understanding).

The program is supported by a cutting-edge learning and design center which will provide students and faculty with state-of-the-art technologies, tools, and systems to support learning and research. This center will provide students with the opportunity to develop research projects and prototypes with the same big data and artificial intelligence platforms used in cutting-edge industry applications.

LIU Post is one of the few programs in the country that offers entry-level bachelor’s degree in radiologic technology and has been a provider of education in diagnostic imaging since 1973. Radiologic technologists operate x-ray and digital imaging machines, digital mammography equipment, computed tomography (CT scan) machines, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to provide physicians with images of the skeletal system, organs, tissues and other vessels of the body—important diagnostic tests that help doctors detect and treat illness and injury. The B.S. in Radiologic Technology is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

In the Department of Criminal Justice, undergraduate and graduate programs are designed to meet the constant demand for law enforcement and criminal justice professionals. Our programs also provide an excellent pathway toward the study of law.

Our core curriculum thoroughly explores the theory and practice of the criminal justice system. But you will customize your study through elective courses that focus on a particular area of interest. The B.S. in Business Administration focuses on the roles and behaviors necessary to become an effective manager: planning, organizing, problem-solving, leading, operating and controlling. The degree equips students with the professional skills to run a successful & competitive company, and to productively interact with customers, employees and shareholders. Through specialized courses in organizational behavior, business and society, international management and cross-cultural behavior, and creating and managing a small business, you will develop a broad knowledge of the inner workings of all types of commerce.

Clinical Laboratory Scientists are highly skilled professionals who are qualified by passing the national certification examination and licensed by NY State to work in a several departments of a clinical laboratory including hematology, microbiology, immunohematology, chemistry, immunology and molecular diagnostics (CLS generalist). They play a key role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and illnesses. Using sophisticated laboratory analyzers, CLS generalists perform tests and analyze cells, blood and other body fluids to detect abnormalities. They are a vital source of diagnostic information to doctors who use the test results to determine and monitor a course of treatment for patients.

The B.S. CLS program and the corresponding MS CLS program, are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS, 5600 N. River Rd., Suite 720, Rosemont, IL, 60018-5119; 773.714.8880; [email protected]), which is the national accrediting body for CLS programs. The goals of the programs are to exceed the NAACLS specified benchmarks for certification exam pass rate, graduation rate and employment rate. This program integrates a complex level of didactic theoretical and technical instruction. Following successful completion of the CLS didactic courses, students are selected for the practicum by competitively placement into clinical sites contracted with LIU Post- a list of the sites is shown below. Students successfully completing the practicum are eligible to take the ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) national certification examinations for a CLS generalist. Certification is necessary for employment nation-wide and is required for licensure in New York State. Conferral of the B.S. in Clinical Laboratory Science degree is not contingent upon passing a certification or licensure exam.

The Department of Health and Human Services is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Students benefit from classroom instruction led by faculty who are locally and nationally recognized for their scholarly contributions to social justice and improving the human condition. Hands-on internships and fieldwork opportunities in varied settings are also available, including schools, homeless shelters, child and family counseling centers, charitable organizations, senior citizen facilities, and social service agencies. 

The Master of Health Administration degree, provides the comprehensive curriculum needed to succeed as a manager or leader in a highly complex, competitive and ever-changing health care environment. This 42-credit program examines both practical and theoretical problems and challenges in the field, and provides an understanding of a wide range of topics including organizational structures, health care policy analysis and healthcare management.

The M.H.A. program at LIU Post prepares students for service in executive and managerial-level positions public, nonprofit, and health care organizations. Our graduates are currently serving in the hospitals and health care practices; local and national nonprofits; and local, state, and federal government positions.
