Overview

This program blends theory with hands-on application of theoretical principles delivered through course work and field practicum.  Students in this program will develop their knowledge and professional skills in areas such as child development and best practices in early childhood; the early childhood educator's role and responsibilities; the importance of play in children's learning; family involvement and curriculum design and implementation.

When the student graduates they will have the knowledge and necessary skills to work with children, families and community in the context of early learning and development programs for children from birth to age twelve. The student will be prepared to work in a variety of settings, including child care centres, early learning and family centres, Best Start programs, before and after school programs and with school boards.

The Network and Security Architecture Graduate Certificate program will cover the key aspects of designing, deploying, supporting, and securing small, medium, and enterprise network and server infrastructures. Co-operative Education
In order to be eligible for co-op, students must achieve and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and be academically complete at the commencement of their co-op work term (Fall intake; completed all courses and Winter intake; completed all first semester courses) prior to the commencement of their co-op work term.  The co-op work term will always be the summer semester regardless of whether the student is in the Fall or Winter intake.

The Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) program is a four-year, honours level degree with a mandatory co-op work term between Levels 7 and 8. This three-year Advanced Diploma in Cyber Security will provide students with the foundational Information Security (InfoSec) skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in the IT Security industry. Students will study the layout and construction of a residential build from footings through roof framing. Emphasis is placed on developing and practicing the hands-on skills needed in the field.

Remote sensing, object-oriented programming, spatial analysis and modeling, digital photogrammetry, web map/web GIS and CAD skills will all be developed, and students will have the opportunity to apply these technical skills to their own areas of specialization (engineering, social sciences, humanities, community health or other sciences).

Co-operative Education
This one-year program has one co-op work term.  Students who fulfill both the academic and co-op requirements of the program will be eligible to graduate with a Co-op Endorsed Diploma.  More information about Co-operative Education can be found at www.fanshawec.ca/co-op.

Learning Outcomes
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to

  • Create solutions to spatial problems utilizing database systems;
  • Apply spatial analysis techniques within a variety of disciplines;
  • Solve problems using data that is acquired, interpreted, and integrated from various sources, and with different formats and coordinate systems;
  • Generate elegant and efficient computational algorithms;
  • Configure and customize GIS applications, operations, and databases to support decisionmaking and modelling within a range of disciplines;
  • Design web-based and embedded solutions to distribute GIS data and functionality to a wide range of end users;
  • Integrate GIS component design and development into project life cycle management, systems life cycles, and workflow processes;
  • Assist end users in integrating spatial processes into primarily non-spatial software applications;
  • Communicate complex technical geographic information to a wide variety of clients using texts, maps, and visual display, in order to increase understanding and enable wider use of GIS applications;
  • Practice to a professional standard, throughethical behaviour, continuous learning, and participation in professional organizations.
