Business analysts drive change within organizations; they maintain a vibrant and dynamic skill set in today's fast paced world. This one-year (3 semesters) graduate certificate is designed for university and college graduates looking for a career as a business analyst within large organizations and is closely aligned with the role of a project manager.  Learning within the program is focused on the gathering, comprehension and management of project requirements to meet the strategic, tactical and financial goals of an organization.  A mandatory co-op term in semester 3 offers students the opportunity to apply their skills as a business analyst within a variety of organizations.

Learning Outcomes
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

• Develop new or improved innovative business processes from gap analysis through process design in support of a company's strategic objectives in a socially responsible manner;
• Develop and document business processes and business models according to established timelines and project goals in order to successfully execute the project;
• Plan, manage, and facilitate requirements gathering activities to define, manage, and implement the product or process;
• Develop strategies to bridge gaps between requirements and existing systems in accordance with standard business practices;
• Accurately communicate technical and business information to all stakeholders to ensure clear understanding of system requirements;
• Collaborate and network with stakeholders in an ethical manner to evaluate and align business processes and business models with the strategic objectives of the organization Curriculum.

The program provides the technical knowledge and skills required to manage the construction of industrial, commercial, and institutional buildings from the planning stage through to completion. Studies include construction materials and methods, construction equipment, surveying, project management, scheduling, estimating, building economics, and construction contracts. Twelve months of co-operative work experience is an integral part of the program.

Co-operative Education

Learning Outcomes

• Develop and use strategies to enhance professional growth and ongoing learning in the construction engineering field.
• Comply with workplace health and safety practices and procedures in accordance with current legislation and regulations.
• Complete duties and assist in monitoring that work is performed in compliance with contractual obligations, applicable laws, standards, bylaws, codes and ethical practices in the construction engineering field.
• Promote and carry out sustainability practices in accordance with contract documents, industry standards and environmental legislative requirements.
• Facilitate the collaboration and interaction among project stakeholders to support construction engineering projects.
• Collect, process, analyze and coordinate technical data to produce written and graphical project-related documents.
• Coordinate and facilitate the collecting, processing, interpreting and application of survey/geomatics and layout information* to implement construction projects.
• Select and use industry-specific electronic and digital technologies to support the design and construction of projects.
• Analyze and solve technical problems related to the design and implementation of construction projects by applying engineering concepts, technical mathematics and building science.
• Schedule, coordinate and monitor the progression of construction projects by applying principles of construction project management.
• Prepare estimates of time, cost, quality and quantity, tenders and bids.
• Perform, coordinate and facilitate quality control* testing and monitoring of equipment, materials and methods involved in the implementation and completion of construction projects.
• Apply teamwork, leadership, supervision and interpersonal skills when working individually or within multidisciplinary teams to complete work on construction projects.

The program provides training in the skills required to perform a variety of technical functions involving the assessing and maintenance of fire alarm and sprinkler systems. Graduates will be able to respond to new and emerging situations which demand the application of basic principles of fire alarm inspection to the solution of problems which they may not have previously encountered. The combination of theory-based knowledge and workplace experience will serve to increase the level of competence within the overall industry.

• Describe the fundamental operations of basic electrical systems

• Assess a structure to determine if all relevant fire codes, legislation, and standards are met

• Describe the basic components of sprinkler systems
• Install, verify and test a variety of fire alarm systems
• Troubleshoot issues in a variety of fire alarm and sprinkler systems

This program blends theory with hands-on application of theoretical principles delivered through course work and field practicum.  Students in this program will develop their knowledge and professional skills in areas such as child development and best practices in early childhood; the early childhood educator's role and responsibilities; the importance of play in children's learning; family involvement and curriculum design and implementation.

When the student graduates they will have the knowledge and necessary skills to work with children, families and community in the context of early learning and development programs for children from birth to age twelve. The student will be prepared to work in a variety of settings, including child care centres, early learning and family centres, Best Start programs, before and after school programs and with school boards.

A Community Pharmacy Assistant is one of the vital members of a pharmacy. Their attention to detail, knack for problem solving, technical and interpersonal skills contribute to the success and operational effectiveness of a pharmacy. Fanshawe's one-year Community Pharmacy Assistant program is designed to prepare graduates to achieve professional success in community pharmacies under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician.

The program blends theory with experiential learning. Students will learn concepts and problem solving strategies in the classroom that are later reinforced during lab components in Fanshawe's state-of-the-art pharmacy lab and a community placement. Students also gain the skills to collaborate with other pharmacy health care professionals to ensure accurate patient record maintenance, process prescriptions, manage inventory, compound non-sterile products and assist customers with products sold in a community pharmacy.

If students wish to continue their education in the field of pharmacy studies, successful completion of this program will allow students to obtain advanced standing in Fanshawe's Pharmacy Technician program.

Business - Finance is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. This program is designed to develop the skills needed to work in the growing personal financial services sector, from customer service to wealth management and financial planning. Students will learn to work with clients, evaluating their needs and offer advice on personal financial management, tax and retirement planning, insurance, investments, and estate planning, as well as customer relations and providing product to clients. Qualified graduates will have completed all the educational requirements leading to the CFP® (Certified Financial Planner®) designation awarded by the Financial Planning Standards Council www.fpsc.ca. and the Registered Retirement Consultant® RRC® designation awarded by CIFP.

Students are also prepared to write the Canadian Securities Course® and Life Licensing Qualification Program examinations as prerequisites to securities and life insurance licensing. Students will also have completed the Mutual Funds Licensing course.

The Visual Effects and Editing for Contemporary Media program is an Ontario College Graduate Certificate program designed to prepare creative and disciplined students for a career in the Post Production industry. The program focuses on professional techniques, terminology and software used for video and audio editing, motion graphics, 3D animation, compositing and Visual FX. Students will improve their Post Production knowledge and skills through individual and group assignments, practical instruction, independent learning, tutorials and research. The program includes an opportunity for client services, internship within the post industry across Canada, as well as self-directed portfolio projects.

• Combine and manipulate audio, video, graphics and animation elements.
• Manage and organize large amounts of media, files and documents on digital devices.
• Model, render and integrate 3D elements into video projects using professional techniques.
• Trouble shoot and problem solve video and computer issues during the creation Post Production projects.
• Edit and mix audio elements for use in video productions.

The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program provides students with the opportunity to study subject areas relevant to health career programs at Fanshawe College and to instill an appreciation of the professional roles, responsibilities and academic requirements of health care disciplines. The goal of the program is to prepare students for their chosen health career program.

• Examine biological concepts, processes and systems of the human body, including genetics and epigenetics, as well as the structure, function and properties of the molecules of life, cells, tissues and organ systems in relation to homeostasis, physical development and health.
• Examine concepts, processes and systems of chemistry, including atomic and molecular structure; quantities in chemical reactions; solutions and solubility; acids and bases; as well as organic chemistry and biochemistry in relation to health and the human body.
• Solve numeric problems and interpret data related to health sciences and other science-related fields using mathematical concepts, including algebra and probability, along with descriptive and inferential statistics.
• Use health sciences and other science-related language and terminology appropriately to communicate clearly, concisely, and correctly in written, spoken, and visual forms.
• Prepare a personal strategy and plan for academic, career and professional development in the health sciences or other science-related fields.

Landscape Design is a three-year co-operative program of study providing training in the design of many types of landscape areas, with emphasis on residential landscape design as well as experience with commercial and institutional sites. A variety of skills in areas such as drafting, computer-aided design, three dimensional modeling, design illustration and visualization are combined with the knowledge of design theory, plant and hard materials, landscape construction and new technologies to provide students with the skills necessary to source employment in the expanding field of landscape design.

Qualifying graduates of the Landscape Design program, have the option to receive advanced standing into a related Honours Bachelor's Degree in the Environmental Design and Planning program at Fanshawe College as well as the Landscape Architecture program at the University of Guelph where they may continue their studies.

Journalism - Broadcast students learn skills to develop a career as a Broadcast Journalist in electronic media, radio, television and webmedia.  Develop story telling skills as a reporter using broadcast news gathering equipment, audio and visual, news writing, newscasting, news editing, interviewing, researching, documentary/current affairs production, sportscasting, newsbeats, news management, media law and media ethics.

Students operate four broadcast properties in Fanshawe College's School of Contemporary Media building, which is equipped with the latest in broadcast facilities.

The program offers practical, hands-on training with live on-air performances on the College broadcast properties (e.g., Listen live at CIXX-FM, The X 106.9FM www.1069thex.ca, The Falcon at www.thefalcon.ca, CFRL Radio at www.cfrlradio.ca, and the new Stellar Radio, live video and audio at http://original.livestream.com/stellar_radio
