Insurance and Risk Management is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program designed for university and college graduates looking for a career in the property and casualty insurance industry. This program will allow students to earn credits towards the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation from the Insurance Institute of Canada.

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

• Analyze the role played by the property and casualty insurance industry in the Canadian and global economy.
• Use current and relevant insurance industry-specific terminology in all stakeholder communications.
• Identify, select and apply risk management concepts to the four major categories of risk: hazard, operational, financial and strategic.
• Assess the techniques risk management professionals use to finance the negative consequences of risk events in multifaceted scenarios.
• Recommend assessment and treatment techniques for the major categories of risk faced by an organization, with an emphasis on hazard risk.
• Evaluate the clauses, terms and conditions of various insurance policy wordings in order to determine the appropriate coverage for complex risks.
• Articulate an effective process to successfully address the adjustment, negotiation and settlement of an insurance claim.
• Justify the acceptance or rejection of an application for insurance.
• Evaluate the needs of a commercial and/or personal client in order to plan and recommend an insurance program that provides protection from identified exposures.

Business - Payroll and Bookkeeping is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. The program provides graduates with knowledge of 1) payroll and human resources practices including compensation and benefits, and 2) bookkeeping practices and related accounting software applications. Graduates will have met the educational requirements for the Payroll Compliance Practitioner designation and will have three advanced standing credits towards completion of the Certified Payroll Manager designation with the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA). In addition, graduates will have also completed the academic requirements for the Certified Bookkeeper designation with the Canadian Institute of Bookkeeping (CIB). Graduates will be well prepared for self-employment or for entry-level careers in accounting, bookkeeping, taxation and payroll administration in a variety of industries.

The Motive Power Technician (Automotive) Diploma program is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. The program is designed to develop graduates with essential advanced technical, organizational, interpersonal, administrative and managerial skills required for the automotive service industry as well as providing progressive and comprehensive learning experiences on internal combustion spark ignition engines, power trains and related modern vehicle systems. Students will learn to communicate effectively, diagnose and solve problems logically and to undertake responsible work tasks with a minimum of supervision.

Graduates may also be in a favourable status if they wish to apply for our alternative Motive Power Technician (Diesel) Diploma program. Credit for those courses that bridge our diploma programs will be granted; therefore, significantly reducing the requirements for this second Ontario College Diploma.

Interior designers focus on the planning, design and detailing of interior space to improve the quality of people's physical environment. The four-year Honours Bachelor of Interior Design program covers both commercial and residential design, providing comprehensive treatment of all facets of interior design including research, problem analysis, concept development, design communication, drawings and specifications, technology, verbal and visual presentation methods, construction, and business practice. The courses develop students' skills as creative designers who can formulate, propose and execute creative design solutions for the physical, social and psychological needs of a changing society. Principles of environmental sustainability and socially responsible design are embedded throughout the courses.

This two-year diploma program focuses on business fundamentals with strong experiential learning components. Graduate with the operations experience and business acumen to manage and operate a successful golf or recreational club, while also learning about club sports with a focus on golf. 

Develop your passion for golf through visits to various courses, guest speakers and coaches from PGA of Canada, access to our golf simulator and a membership to all City of London golf courses. You’ll also have the opportunity to network with a wide variety of industry professionals within the resort and golf and club industries. Hone your golf, racquet sports and curling games through instruction from PGA of Canada golf pros, and expand your learning through field trips to learn new technologies and teaching methodologies at simulator facilities, various resorts and golf clubs, as well as an optional golf trip to Orlando, Florida

Apply your knowledge in a co-op work experience with professionals within golf course management. You’ll gain further employable skills in food and beverage service and culinary management on-campus through The Chef’s Table restaurant and cafe.

This tailor-made co-operative education program allows applicants the opportunity to explore the numerous career opportunities available in the ever growing golf and club industry. Inspired by the Canadian Society of Club Managers (CSCM), this program fosters the core educational competencies required to excel in a career in club management.  Students will develop expertise in business and financial management, golf club and turf services and food and beverage operations with a hospitality focus. Theoretical studies will be supported by practical exposure in all areas of golf and club facilities. Students will gain an appreciation for proactive customer service and the relation to business development. Upon graduation, students are prepared to get their Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation.

This three-year Commercial Flight and Aviation Leadership Advanced Diploma is designed to prepare domestic and international students for a career in aviation. 

The program includes training in the following areas:

• Canadian Aviation Regulations
• Flight operations
• Professional standards and practices

In this program students will complete a Canadian Private and Commercial Pilot license including night, multi-engine and instrument ratings.  Graduates will be able to seek opportunities in Aviation flight operations and business ventures as well as professional flight positions. 

Flight training will be delivered by Diamond Flight Centre London Inc., located at the London International Airport. Human Resources Management is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two four-month levels (laptop required).  Designed for university or college graduates, this program provides graduates with functional knowledge in core areas of human resources: recruitment and selection, training and development, human resources planning, occupational health and safety, organizational behaviour, finance and accounting, human resources management, compensation and benefits and labour relations.  Students have the opportunity to complete all nine Certified Human Resources Professional/Leader (CHRP/ CHRL) credits.  (Refer to the Human Resources Professionals Association website for more information: www.hrpa.ca.) Beyond the core curriculum, the program also offers courses in software, Canadian employment law, management of strategic HR projects and professional communications.  A unique experiential learning opportunity is available to select students through the HR Community Consultancy offered in the final winter term of the in-class program.

This three-year co-operative program provides training in both the municipal and structural areas. The design of steel frame and reinforced concrete buildings is studied in the structural courses. Training is provided in materials testing and computer-aided drafting. Municipal topics include the design and construction of water distribution systems, storm, and sanitary sewerage networks, storm water management and highways. Theories for the treatment of water, sewage, and solid wastes are analyzed. Survey courses provide training in the use of high-tech survey equipment and techniques of plane surveying, as related to the Civil Engineering profession. Applied research activities by Professors expose students to real life engineering practices, challenges and solutions.

This program emphasizes the dynamic role of the Doula within communities to prepare graduates for a rewarding career collaborating with health care teams to honour and advocate for expectant families throughout the full spectrum of their reproductive journey. The curriculum captures the specialized evidence-informed knowledge, skills, and experience relating to anatomy, physiology, and the emotional, physical, and cultural aspects of pregnancy and birth required by Doulas to provide families with information and support during pregnancy, childbirth, newborn care, and including loss. In addition, students are introduced to business management/entrepreneurship concepts and strategies, including business ethics, contracts, marketing and sales techniques, and personal financial management.

• Assist with the delivery of family-centred maternity care in collaboration with members of the health care team.
• Examine the historical, political, and cultural aspects of the provision of maternity care both locally and globally and identify how they shape the experiences of contemporary mothering to meet the needs of clients.
• Apply knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of a woman during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum to address the concerns and needs of clients.
•  Provide evidence-informed physical, emotional, physiological, and psychosexual support to enhance the comfort, health, and well-being of individuals and families as they negotiate the various transitions associated with pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
• Provide families with community and online resources related to the childbearing years to empower clients to make evidence-informed choices regarding pregnancy and birth options and newborn care, including infant and newborn nutrition.
• Describe diagnostic testing procedures and medical interventions routinely used during pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postpartum period, and recognize the normal ranges and parameters for those test results.
• Identify early signs of maternal physical and mental health concerns, and refer clients to appropriate community resources in a timely manner.
• Foster professional relationships with clients, family members, caregivers, and other doulas.
• Establish and maintain a professional doula business in accordance with professional, legal, and ethical guidelines.
• Identify and support clients’ needs based on the theories of diverse social determinants of health, cultural humility, and intersectionality and the principle of harm reduction.

This program provides students with an understanding of the practical science of biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. It is a three-year, seven level program with up to 16 months of paid co-op experience. The electrical engineering technology program will prepare graduates for jobs in growth areas of automation, network communications, electrical utilities/protection, process control, electronics, and embedded systems. Students will study electrical system design, automation, power generation/distribution, and develop practical skills. Graduates will be skilled in AutoCAD, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, PLCs, motors, electronics, programming, and industrial automation. Throughout the program, students will apply this knowledge in conjunction with the Canadian Electrical Code, workplace health and safety and project management applications. Additionally, students will enhance their interpersonal and communication skills.
