The four areas of study support student success with industry-related certifications external to the program. Program faculty will provide guidance and information on the various certifications that are available and relevant to fitness and health professionals .

Over four semesters, you will progressively develop skills and knowledge in fitness assessment and exercise programming, nutrition, health promotion, leadership and self-development, business planning and lifestyle consulting. Field Placement opportunities will provide you with workplace experience supervised by trained professionals and leaders in the fitness industry. Placements can be tailored to your specific career goals or future university plans. For example, students have requested placements in hospitals, corporate sites, fitness facilities, chiropractic or physiotherapy settings, and non-profit organizations such as Diabetes Canada and Osteoporosis Canada. Welders work in numerous industries and across many sectors including in manufacturing foundries, factories, at construction sites and in the aerospace industry.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Statistics continue to confirm that those getting into this skilled trade now will likely have steady employment for as long as they want to work in the welding and fabricating sector. In the Welding and Fabrication Techniques program, you will learn how to:

• Select and apply welding processes and troubleshoot welding equipment
• Use a variety of destructive and non-destructive methods to test welds and acquire advanced skills in fitting and fabrication
• Gain comprehensive theoretical knowledge and have extensive practical hands-on training in welding and metal cutting techniques and all major welding processes.

WELDING CERTIFICATIONS
This program provides progressive opportunities to earn Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certifications. Program curriculum is in line with having completed Level III of the in-school portion of the Welding Apprenticeship:

• Upon successful completion of the 2-semester Welding Techniques Certificate you will have the opportunity to test for the 1GF (Flat fillet and groove welds) and 2GF (horizontal position) certification from CWB
• Once you have successfully completed 2 more semesters in the Welding Fabrication Technician program, you will have the opportunity to test for the 3GF and 4GF (vertical and overhead positions)

Fleming College's Police Foundations program has evolved to meet the changing needs of police services and the communities in which they serve. New curriculum addresses the increasing role of civilian policing in Ontario. We now provide options for students who are interested in a career in law and justice and want to take the program as a foundation for continuing educational pathways, or for career opportunities other than a police constable. Students can graduate with a Police Foundations diploma by taking the curriculum stream that emphasizes civilian policing over fitness.

Innovative Curriculum - Mental Health Strategies In Policing
Fleming College is leading the way in providing specialized training to respond to increasing numbers of mental health calls-for-service. Recent inquests have highlighted that these calls can be fatal, and often the individual officer’s level of training factors into successfully resolving the situation. Officer duties frequently involve incidents that result in mental health issues for the officer, commonly PTSD. The new Mental Health Strategies In Policing curriculum also examines the relationship between mental health and the student, as both a member of the community and as a candidate for policing.

Field Placement:
Our placement experience really does set Fleming apart from other police programs at the college level. With our close associations and partnerships with a number of police services, you will have an opportunity to take advantage of a wide variety of placements and practicum experiences. NOTE: Placement experience will be subject to a clearance check by the police service. Field placement may extend beyond the 15-week block in semester four, depending on the experience you choose and the preference of the police service placement.

Students who meet specified standards are eligible to participate in one of our two field placement programs, which generally consists of 100 hours working directly with officers at a police service. Students assist officers with community policing initiatives and participate in ride-a-longs with uniformed officers on general patrol.

Communication Skills
Our program emphasizes the most important skill a police officer can possess; the ability to communicate. The capacity to show assertiveness, diffuse conflict, display empathy and establish rapport and trust are hallmarks of any good police officer. This skill set is not only important in policing, but transferable to nearly any career that involves community interaction. To facilitate learning, course curriculum emphasizes scenario and problem- based instruction.

Instructors
Faculty has extensive policing experience with several different police agencies within the Province of Ontario. They are knowledgeable in a range of policing issues including recruiting, investigations, federal and provincial law, officer safety, fitness and communications. “Core” police courses such as Criminal Code, Interview and Investigation and Police Powers are taught by former or current police officers.

The Police Foundations Program at Fleming College has been in existence for over thirty years and has cultivated an excellent reputation with police services across the province. Delivered at our campus in Peterborough, this is one of the few two-year Graphic Design advanced diploma programs offered in Ontario. In this intensive, compressed program, three years of study is completed over a two- year period. Graduates are ready to start their graphic design careers in just 24 months.

Students in Fleming’s accelerated graphic design program learn and work in a unique, contemporary design studio space; in this “classroom as design lab and studio,” they discover what it takes to become a professional designer, and how to thrive in this fast-paced industry.

Students gain the skills and understanding required to communicate ideas in digital and printed media through extensive and varied applied learning experiences. At the end of six continuous semesters, they are fully-prepared to hit the ground running, ready to launch their design careers in any industry that requires creative problem solving through visual communication.

Law Clerks assist lawyers in such tasks as interviewing clients, conducting legal research, preparing documents, searching real estate and corporate registries, and in preparing cases for trial.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Your two-year Law Clerk program will provide you with extensive education and training necessary to assist lawyers, and paralegals in both the private and public sector. You will be taught by experts in the legal field. In your first three semesters you are integrated with students in the college’s Paralegal Program. Your education will include such courses as Business and Contract Law, Introduction to Litigation, Legal Research and Writing, Criminal Law, Evidence, Advocacy, Small Claims Law, Practice Management, and Legal Accounting. In your final semester your skills will be further enhanced in the areas of Property Law, Family Law, Wills and Estates, Corporate Law, and Litigation Law.

The only post-graduate program of its kind in Ontario, Mechatronics is a unique interdisciplinary engineering program that provides you with a fast-track to a sought-after credential.

Mechatronics is a three-semester program focused on advanced manufacturing, industrial automation, electronics engineering, and computer programming. This is the first graduate certificate in Ontario that fully represents this interdisciplinary field.

As a Cultural Heritage Conservation and Management specialist, you will learn a wide range of techniques to save the fragile reminders and markers of the past - preserved for future generations to learn from and enjoy.

Program Highlights
The fundamental role of the conservation professional is to preserve and conserve, as appropriate, cultural property for present and future generations. We have a lot to learn from the experiences and events of people who have gone before us. However, we can't learn much from the past if we don't have records of it. Imagine how much history is lost to us when an ancient artifact is destroyed by perfectly well-meaning people who want to save it.

This two-year Ontario College graduate certificate is an intensive, fast-paced learning experience that you will undertake in four consecutive semesters. You'll start your classes in September and spend your first three semesters, during the fall, winter and summer, at the college. Following your introduction to the field of conservation, you will gain valuable, applied and skills-based experience in the care and handling of most common museum materials, including ceramics, glass, stone, metals, wooden objects, leather and proteinaceous materials, textiles, works of art on paper, books, archival materials, photographs and modern materials. Updated curriculum reflects a focus on hands-on skills, experienced based learning, practical applications, beyond best practices and professional standards rooted in ethical applications. Once you've learned the theory and practical skills, you'll treat museum artifacts from local, regional, and national sites. Complementary courses, workshops, assignments, and community-based projects will offer off campus opportunities to practice conservation methods. A full-time, unpaid, curriculum-based internship in your final semester (September to December) provides an invaluable learning and work experience.

Work Experience
There are many opportunities to get practical experience both at the college and off-campus. In your fourth semester, you will take on a challenging, full-time, unpaid curriculum-based internship at an approved site. Students should be prepared to relocate for the internship, to pay full tuition fees, and be self-supporting during this semester. You will negotiate your own internship with faculty assistance and some students have participated in internships abroad. The internship is an unpaid study experience.Students are responsible for negotiating additional paperwork and funding requirements for international internships including visas, travel and insurance.
