The Artificial Intelligence with Machine Learning Ontario Graduate Certificate was developed to fill the need for a growing and in-demand skillset. Designed for students with experience in computer programming, software development or computer science, students learn the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to apply AI models and ML algorithms to a broad range of practical applications including natural language processing, image processing, computer vision and for business decision making. Students will also gain experience in applying AI tools in data analytics and data mining. Technical skills will be complemented by knowledge in regulations, policy and ethics in applying AI technology, as well as project management, communication and teamwork skills.

In the final semester, learners complete an industry-supervised capstone project to solve real-world problems and to showcase skills and knowledge that they have learned in the program. Their projects are showcased at an exhibition event to industry partners, community leaders, faculties and peer students. The program also provides opportunities to engage with a broad community and industry network through guest speakers, network events and applied research in collaboration with industry partners.

Upon successful completion of the program, a graduate will:

1. Design and implement secure artificial intelligence and machine learning software systems and applications using data science, mathematics, data mining principles, algorithms and tools to meet client needs.
2. Defend the algorithms and models used to solve problems in artificial intelligence and machine learning projects through clear and accurate written and verbal presentations to stakeholders.
3. Comply with corporate policies, ethical standards, and industry and government regulations, in implementing artificial intelligence solutions.

Humber’s User Experience (UX) Design graduate certificate simulates the interdisciplinary approaches needed to achieve an innovation process with a focus on design desirability, technological feasibility and business viability. In two semesters, you will be prepared to innovate by problem finding through design research, problem understanding through synthesis, and problem solving through design and prototyping experiences. You will learn how to create valuable courses of action by generating design problem hypotheses, structured design process plans, compelling UX deliverables and persuasive arguments.

You will learn human-centered design methods and rhetoric that ground your design in the needs of the public. In addition, you will learn how to use interaction design and design systems through industry-standard quality assurance methods, and how to design and implement user interfaces to follow corporate strategies. A variety of conceptual and practical work will help you develop effective UX design skills.

As a user experience designer, you will employ the work-practice of prototyping concepts in order to describe ways to integrate digital services with material products and environments. As a UX researcher, you will discover insights through usability testing and apply them to create value for corporate clients and their customers. Toward the conclusion of this program, you will convert your acquired skills and achievements into a portfolio of design products that will help you launch a career as a UX design professional. Humber’s Web Development graduate certificate program focuses on the development of websites and web services for multiple environments including database-driven programming, content management and mobile services. A combination of conceptual and practical training will prepare you to execute effective, efficient website design.

Work completed individually and in teams will simulate the real-world work environment and hone collaborative and teamwork skills. You will create commercial websites that apply theories of user-centered design, security, information architecture, quality assurance testing and responsive design. This program will help you master the project management and presentation skills that are key to success in the workplace.

You will be working on websites that meet strict business and development requirements. By the end of your final semester of study, you will have developed a comprehensive personal portfolio of your competencies, and you will be able to promote your skills at a portfolio show.

Humber’s advanced diploma program in Electronics Engineering Technology consistently ranks among our most employable programs. This program builds on skills learned in the Electronics Engineering Technician diploma program and will prepare you to work in all fields where electric circuits and systems are found. You will acquire strong fundamental knowledge to help you build a career in all new and emerging technologies manufactured here in North America like photonics, laser technology, medical imaging, new electronic materials and devices, intelligent systems, entertainment, and broadcasting systems. The program takes a system design and integration approach to electronic applications, and you will gain in-depth knowledge and hands-on training in:

• Electronic circuits: analog, digital, radio-frequency and programmable circuits
• Connectivity and interface design, embedded microcontrollers, IoT integration
• The full skill set of computer networking including wireless networks
• Wireless telecommunications, antennas, waveguides and transmission lines
• Telecommunication electronics such as photonics, fibre optics and microwaves
• Signal acquisition and signal processing

We have designed the curriculum in collaboration with an advisory panel comprising highly successful industry experts in order to ensure you are learning the most up-to-date, relevant material. You will spend approximately half your time in labs working with electronic, analog, digital and programmable circuits and learning how to embed these circuits into cell phones, audio equipment, high-definition (HD) video systems, robots, computers and advanced instruments.

This program offers a co-op option. Co-op work terms enable you to apply your skills and knowledge in a work environment and gain valuable, practical experience related to your program of study. You will learn new skills, learn about the world of work and meet people in your profession. For students who are accepted into the program, three co-op work terms will take place. The first four-month work term is between Semesters 2 and 3, and then two consecutive four-month work terms between Semesters 4 and 5. There are limited spaces in the co-op option. Therefore, you will apply for the co-op option during Semester 1 and be informed of the process by which to apply.  While co-op work opportunities are not guaranteed, as students are in a competitive job placement market, participating students will receive a wide range of services to help them find a co-op opportunity.

This demand will only grow as technology continues to advance and change the way we live and work especially in industrially dynamic regions such as the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Our graduates work at major organizations such as CTV and CBC, Ontario Power Generation, Hydro One, Rogers, Telus and Bell, as well as BlackBerry, Celestica, and GE Canada, to mention just a few. Engaging interior design studios enable you to master an evidence-based design process, develop effective presentation abilities and acquire vital professional practice skills. Team collaboration among student groups mirrors industry team practices.

Observational field trips provide opportunities for you to connect classroom theory, such as the perception of space and human interaction, with built environments. In the fourth-year, you will interact with industry mentors to research, develop and document a large scale project from initial concept to construction documentation.
Additionally, a self-directed volunteer project helps connect your passion for design to the community and the design industry. Students have worked with organizations such as the Furniture Bank, Toronto District School Board, youth and women’s shelters, and Habitat for Humanity.

You will apply your hands-on, job-ready skills with a 420-hour paid work placement. Career management workshops help you to develop effective job search skills. You will find your own work placement with the support of work placement consultants and faculty. 

Humber's Professional Accounting Practice graduate certificate program provides you with the required knowledge and skills essential to begin and advance in the field of accounting. You will be well prepared for careers in the field with knowledge of all accounting disciplines including financial accounting, management accounting, audit and assurance, finance, and personal and corporate tax. You will also develop computer technology, management, problem-solving and critical thinking skills, along with professional communication and interpersonal skills. This program is a path for students already holding a bachelor's degree in any discipline other than accounting and who are interested in pursuing the Chartered Professional Accounting designation. No prior accounting knowledge is required.

Work Placement
Humber has the only graduate certificate of its kind in Ontario that provides students with hands-on work experience in the field of accounting. Through a mandatory 160 hour work placement, students will make industry connections and can gain experience in small, medium and large organizations, and in entrepreneurial start-ups.

Humber’s Business Administration advanced diploma program allows you to develop extensive knowledge on how businesses work and teaches you to become competent in the full range of skills needed to facilitate business operations.

Courses in operations management, accounting, human resources management, marketing research and much more will give you the opportunity to cultivate key business skills such as communication, teamwork, project management and strategic business analysis. This program is built on a common platform of a solid business education – principles of management, marketing, business law, finance mathematics and microeconomics. This common platform is shared with other business diploma programs in year one and is expanded on in year two.

Work Placement
You’ll be assisted in finding a paid or unpaid business work placement where you’ll practise your skills during an 84-hour assignment. This adds valuable hands-on experience to your resumé. Close relationships with the business professionals who constantly update the curriculum will give you valuable networking contacts.

Humber’s Information Technology graduate certificate program is designed to support students without an information technology (IT) background. Our program’s first semester includes an introduction to software development, database concepts and web development. In subsequent semesters, students engage in advanced study of a variety of information technology topics in areas including database development, database administration, enterprise software development (.NET/Java), web development, and mobile application development (Android and/or iOS).

You will learn how to effectively control, maintain and develop information technology systems. Working in teams and individually, you will create commercial applications that apply acquired theories to the creation, administration and development of databases as well as database-driven mobile, web and desktop applications. Project management skills will prepare you to work effectively in large IT departments and tackle large projects efficiently. In addition to building your collaborative and teamwork skills, this program will teach you how to best market yourself to prospective employers in today's competitive job market.

The Usability Lab is a new facility for students in the School of Media Studies & Information Technology at Humber College. This “Live Lab” is a full-fledged usability lab where content creators can capture & assess the interaction between user and design. This Usability Lab is specialized, in that it was purposefully built for usability studies to ensure that the environment does not interfere with the testing. Designed with flexibility at its core, it has been equipped with a broad variety of technology, supporting usability testing at many different levels of sophistication. What makes this lab unique is the fact that it is mobile. This one-of-a-kind usability lab can be delivered to those who wish to use and evaluate our designs, as well as their own. For our students, they can participate in, and lead experiments that will truly test the designs they have developed, to make sure they work in the manner they have been designed to work.

Graduates may qualify for full-time and freelance employment as enterprise software developers; junior and intermediate software developers; enterprise programmers for e-commerce; web programmers; intranet, extranet and database developers; or database administrators in corporate, small- and medium-sized businesses, government, entertainment, education, healthcare and the not-for-profit sector.

Fashion is an international business, and Humber’s Fashion Arts and Business diploma program places an emphasis on retail operations from both domestic and international perspectives. You will study marketing, store planning and merchandising, brand management, marketing, social media, event planning, and retail buying. You’ll also learn fashion trend forecasting, sales techniques, and colour and styling analysis while attaining basic knowledge of fashion products and fashion promotion. These skills are then applied to product launches, planning merchandise assortments, styling fashion shoots and the production of fashion events.

Our advisory committee provides regular review and input of curriculum ensuring our program is always on the cutting edge of industry developments.

In first year, courses in the business of fashion – marketing strategies, product knowledge, trend forecasting and web merchandising – give students an overview of this multibillion-dollar industry. You will learn accounting from industry-connected faculty who are committed to providing you with practical, hands-on accounting training to help you get ahead. Our program’s versatile range of courses helps you develop broad-based business skills including human resource administration, business writing, macroeconomics and finance. At any time, you can transfer to the three-year Business Administration – Accounting advanced diploma program, with an optional co-op opportunity.

You may choose to study for four consecutive semesters if you wish to accelerate your path to graduation.
