Humber’s Occupational Therapist Assistant/Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA/PTA) diploma program was the first in Ontario to provide formal educational preparation for occupational therapist assistants (OTAs) and physiotherapist assistants (PTAs) and continues to provide quality education. You will learn to assist in the implementation of rehabilitation treatment plans and programs developed to promote clients’ independence, activities and function. Areas of focus include restoring and maximizing physical function and occupational performance, ultimately enabling clients to effectively utilize their abilities in movement, daily functioning and activity while promoting overall well-being.

Practise your skills and acquire hands-on experience during over 600 hours (16 weeks) of unpaid work placements. These placements are arranged by the program fieldwork placement advisor during Semester 2, Semester 3 and Semester 4. You will have the opportunity to be exposed to leading-edge therapeutic skills, equipment and health-care facilities. This program offers the privilege of participating in clinical placements in occupational therapy and physiotherapy at some of the top teaching hospitals in Canada.

Humber’s Cosmetic Management diploma program gives you the business base and cosmetic skills that you need for a career in the growing cosmetic and personal care industries.

The curriculum, designed in collaboration with the cosmetics industry, focuses on current market trends and touches on all disciplines that students require to enter the personal care products sector. Courses encompass training in cosmetic and skin care product ingredients, retailing, merchandising, marketing and social media, make-up and skin care application, as well as the skills necessary for running an independent business. Topics such as environmental implications and multicultural sensitivity are embedded in each course.

Our program delivers a range of business-focused cosmetic courses. Humber’s Landscape Technician diploma program is based on the principles of sustainability, conservation and environmental sensitivity. You’ll learn about landscape design and development, site construction, general horticulture, grounds maintenance, and related technologies through a combination of in-class studies and hands-on landscape training.

At Humber, we have exceptional facilities for landscape education. The Humber Arboretum, for example, is a 250-acre botanical garden centred on the west branch of the Humber River, surrounding Humber’s North Campus. It includes ornamental, woodland and wildlife gardens serving as a unique living classroom for plant studies, construction, arboricultural and horticultural skills. Our construction lab is housed in a weather-protected 8,000-square-foot facility which allows you to build full-scale structures such as decks, gazebos and retaining walls. Advanced Diploma in Sport Management

Humber’s Sport Management advanced diploma program prepares you to manage the business of sport. You will develop a thorough knowledge of the structure and functionality of the Canadian sport industry including specific responsibilities and governance structure of organizations; rules and regulations governing sport; coaching standards; tournament hosting and scheduling; and sport sponsorship development. You will also learn the practical, organizational, business, human resources and administrative skills needed to pursue a career in the industry.

A three-day leadership camp at the OELC (Ontario Educational Leadership Centre) helps build communication and leadership skills while guest speakers, practical training and field trips provide added benefits in preparing you for the workplace.

Courses are designed with industry collaboration, ensuring the program is current and relevant. You will learn from full-time professors, managers and directors of sport organizations. Classes are diverse and include guest speakers from organizations such as Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment, Tennis Canada, the Ontario Basketball Association and various games organizing committees. Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nursing

Humber’s Nursing degree program focuses on the nurses' role in community/public health, primary health care, long-term care and acute settings. Our small class sizes of 35 to 40 students in our theory and science courses provide you with both individual and group learning opportunities. In our simulation labs, students will practise and improve interpersonal and technical nursing skills in a safe and active learning environment. 

Students will also receive hands-on experience across a number of clinical placements at health-related agencies across the Greater Toronto Area. 

Humber is the only English speaking college in Ontario with access to an on-campus cadaver lab for nursing students. You will gain hands-on experience working in various settings, individually and as a team member, creating baking and pastry delicacies. The first year of the program consists of foundational courses while in second year, you begin in-depth training in baking and pastry arts. You will learn the foundation of traditional and contemporary techniques in baking and pastry arts management exploring measurements, safety and sanitation, and various types of dough. As well, you’ll study the emerging opportunities of this specialized field, international trends and applications used in the industry. Areas of study in the program also include courses in business and career management, entrepreneurship, and computer applications for the food-service industry, as well as general education and communications courses. Our seven on-campus kitchen labs comprise the most modern facilities in the world. Among them are the award-winning culinary demonstration theatre and kitchen lab, induction cooking labs with high-tech exhaust and theatre-style seating and cooking demonstration area.

Qualified students will complete an unpaid work placement in the baking and pastry industry in the Greater Toronto Area for seven weeks in the fourth semester (40 hours per week). Students will also be able to apply for placements across Canada and Europe, which have jump-started many successful careers.
