Overview

Humber’s Paralegal graduate certificate program prepares you for an exciting career in the legal field. You will gain skills in legal research, oral and written advocacy, critical thinking and problem solving through a case-based and problem-based learning environment. You will develop your oral advocacy skills through active learning including presentations and mock trials.

Courses include tort and contract law, residential landlord and tenant law, employment law, small claims court, provincial offences and summary convictions, and administrative tribunal law and procedures. Humber’s Recreation and Leisure Services diploma program provides you with skills needed to start your career in government, not-for-profit and commercial recreation organizations. You will learn about recreation programming, special event management, staff management, facility operations, marketing and other services within the industry.

The curriculum is designed with industry collaboration, ensuring it is current and relevant. Within the program, students use ActiveNet software and PerfectMind, the most widely used registration management software in the recreation industry.

Students apply their skills by planning and implementing events for local community and charity organizations. A three-day leadership camp at the Ontario Educational Leadership Centre helps build communication and leadership skills while guest speakers, practical training and field trips provide added benefits in preparing you for the workplace.

Learning from professors, as well as managers and directors of recreation programs, centres and agencies will give you valuable exposure to the industry and training in current issues.

Work Placement

Humber’s Computer Programmer diploma program is designed to prepare students for a wide variety of employment opportunities within the dynamic and ever-growing field of programming. In addition to learning programming in a variety of languages, from ASP.NET to XML, you will gain an in-depth understanding of industry-standard operating systems and how to use them. You will learn everything from C programming and shell scripts, to back end web design and Java. Upon graduation, you will be equipped with the up-to-date skills you need for success.

Following the first year, the curriculum branches into three different discipline areas: Information Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, and The Built Environment.  

The Bachelor of Engineering - Information Systems Engineering discipline prepares you for an interdisciplinary field of study that encompasses rapidly changing, evolving and converging areas of computer, software, networking, telecommunications, mobile applications, internet and cyber security. Following the first year, the curriculum covers the core courses in various subjects such as digital systems, operating systems, embedded systems, communication engineering, software engineering, mobile applications and systems, and more. Humber’s Bachelor of Health Sciences – Workplace Health and Wellness degree program is a unique honours degree program, the first of its kind in Canada. You will explore various industry-specific areas including the most current developments in evidence-based interprofessional practice.

This program is multi-disciplinary in nature, drawing from the fields of leadership; mental, physical, and psychological health; business and communication; and knowledge translation. All combined, students acquire the competencies to develop proactive, evidence-based workplace health and wellness programs and health promotion programs. You will develop the skills to promote employee health, workplace culture, employee engagement and retention.

Principles of equity, wellness coaching, diversity, ethical and legal practices, and knowledge translation are the foundation of your learning. A team approach to learning collaboratively is key and is emphasized in the classroom.

The experience will enhance the theoretical learning in the program, giving you hands-on skills.
