Humber’s Baking and Pastry Arts Management diploma program, taught in our state-of-the-art baking and pastry labs, is designed to propel you into a career in the baking and pastry industry. Learn how to make impressive confectionery creations such as:

You will gain hands-on experience working in various settings, individually and as a team member, creating baking and pastry delicacies. The first year of the program consists of foundational courses while in second year, you begin in-depth training in baking and pastry arts. You will learn the foundation of traditional and contemporary techniques in baking and pastry arts management exploring measurements, safety and sanitation, and various types of dough. As well, you’ll study the emerging opportunities of this specialized field, international trends and applications used in the industry. Areas of study in the program also include courses in business and career management, entrepreneurship, and computer applications for the food-service industry, as well as general education and communications courses. Our seven on-campus kitchen labs comprise the most modern facilities in the world. Among them are the award-winning culinary demonstration theatre and kitchen lab, induction cooking labs with high-tech exhaust and theatre-style seating and cooking demonstration area.

Qualified students will complete an unpaid work placement in the baking and pastry industry in the Greater Toronto Area for seven weeks in the fourth semester (40 hours per week). Students will also be able to apply for placements across Canada and Europe, which have jump-started many successful careers.

Our program will complement your creative and technical expertise with essential business training in how to run your own enterprise and manage your own projects. Round out your interior decorating education with instruction in mechanical, electrical, plumbing services and building methods including residential finishes, computer drafting, sketching interiors and digital communications.

The interior decorating program offers an optional work placement to all students who choose to enrol in this opportunity. The work placement requirement is a minimum of 240 hours, following Semester 2. Students who enrol in January have a slightly modified option to gain the mandatory hours.

Interior decorators work with clients and consult on programming through to installation phases. Components selection encompasses style, colour schemes, space plan layouts, elevations perspective sketches, lighting, furniture, floor finishes, wall finishes, kitchen and bathroom design, accessories, and many more details. Interior decorators can provide conceptual sketches, computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), generated working drawings, and other design-related essentials to their clients including product specification, as well as cost estimates. Decorators can also choose from other career avenues including window display, event planning, décor magazines, television work, home staging and much more. Humber graduates have gone on to become interior decorating magazine editors-in-chief, featured magazine interior decorators, TV personalities with their own show, guest TV decorators, newspaper feature article leaders, interior decorating business owners, event planners, managers of decorating retail stores, design consultants and buyers to name but a few.

Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nursing

Humber’s Nursing degree program focuses on the nurses' role in community/public health, primary health care, long-term care and acute settings. Our small class sizes of 35 to 40 students in our theory and science courses provide you with both individual and group learning opportunities. In our simulation labs, students will practise and improve interpersonal and technical nursing skills in a safe and active learning environment. 

Students will also receive hands-on experience across a number of clinical placements at health-related agencies across the Greater Toronto Area. 

Humber is the only English speaking college in Ontario with access to an on-campus cadaver lab for nursing students. Combine that with small class sizes, leading-edge simulation labs, bioscience and anatomy labs, and extensive clinical work placement opportunities -- Humber students have the competitive edge.

Humber’s Broadcast Television/Videography (BRTV) diploma program will quickly prepare you for media content creation in operational and production roles. An intensive, behind-the-scenes look at broadcasting will give you a solid grounding in video production skills and broadcast standards. This program is an excellent starting point for anyone who wants to work behind the scenes in television production and features a wide variety of courses, as well as field experience opportunities, empowering graduates for success in the broadcast industry.

Humber has a strong reputation in the television broadcasting industry.BRTV students regularly produce and live stream Humber Hawks varsity games and esport tournaments. Humber’s Cloud Computing Ontario Graduate Certificate provides you with the knowledge, skills and practices to become integral parts of cloud development and delivery in a variety of industrial settings. Utilizing a case methodology approach, students are exposed to everyday business challenges in order to develop experience in areas such as containerization, virtualization, data storage and security, and automation. 

Six courses in the first semester are designed to provide foundational knowledge and skills in cloud computing to students who may have a wide range of backgrounds. Humber’s Mechanical Engineering Technology advanced diploma program prepares you for a career in the design and manufacturing of mechanical components and applications. The curriculum covers the theory and the skills required to:

  • Design and manufacture process problems

Our program builds upon the solid technical foundation of the Mechanical Engineering Technician program. The skills first learned in the technician program are enhanced through project-based learning and increased hands-on practice in the labs.

This program offers a co-op option. Co-op work terms enable you to apply your skills and knowledge in a work environment and gain valuable, practical experience related to your program of study. You will learn new skills, learn about the world of work and meet people in your profession. For students who are accepted into the program, three co-op work terms will take place. The first four-month work term is between Semesters 2 and 3, and then two consecutive four-month work terms between Semesters 4 and 5.  There are limited spaces in the co-op option. Therefore, you will apply for the co-op option during Semester 1 and be informed of the process by which to apply.  While co-op work opportunities are not guaranteed, as students are in a competitive job placement market, participating students will receive a wide range of services to help them find a co-op opportunity.

Begin a career designing and manufacturing with a Mechanical Engineering Technology advanced diploma. Our graduates are able to perform engineering design and equipment/technology selection for major components in the design of mechanical systems; liaise with fabrication and engineering staff, as well as with vendors, for technical information and specifications; prepare preliminary and final cost estimates; and prepare and evaluate production processes, costing, tool design and inspection requirements. Graduates work in two main areas:

  • Drafting and design, equipment testing, mechanical equipment installation and consulting engineering offices

In just two semesters, you will learn the skills needed to move a project through conceptualization, initiation, planning, execution, control and closing. Humber’s Sport Management advanced diploma program prepares you to manage the business of sport. You will develop a thorough knowledge of the structure and functionality of the Canadian sport industry including specific responsibilities and governance structure of organizations; rules and regulations governing sport; coaching standards; tournament hosting and scheduling; and sport sponsorship development. You will also learn the practical, organizational, business, human resources and administrative skills needed to pursue a career in the industry.

A three-day leadership camp at the OELC (Ontario Educational Leadership Centre) helps build communication and leadership skills while guest speakers, practical training and field trips provide added benefits in preparing you for the workplace.

Courses are designed with industry collaboration, ensuring the program is current and relevant. You will learn from full-time professors, managers and directors of sport organizations. Classes are diverse and include guest speakers from organizations such as Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment, Tennis Canada, the Ontario Basketball Association and various games organizing committees. This program will also prepare you to to design, organize, implement, serve and execute your own dinner event in the “Chef's Table” course. Using a market-related themed menu, mise en place and à la carte cooking, students will showcase classical and contemporary techniques and skill. The Charcuterie and Advanced Garde Manger courses involve students using contemporary level food presentation, styling techniques and becoming proficient with various butchery processes on a wide range of meats. The Emerging Trends course is unique among Ontario colleges, providing students with the opportunity to work alongside local guest chefs. Students also have the opportunity to experience preparing meals on the Humber Food Truck, Humber’s classroom on wheels. In addition, students work alongside some of the country’s best chefs. Students receive unmatched time spent with several leading chefs about what’s happening in today’s restaurant scene and food industry.

Note: A fast-track program is implemented for the January start. The first semester (January to April) is immediately followed by the second semester (May to August), resulting in a short summer break. The third semester begins in September, allowing students to complete the two-year program in just 16 months.

Qualified students will complete work placements in the kitchen of a leading hotel, restaurant or golf course of their choice for seven unpaid weeks in the fourth semester (40 hours per week). Students are also able to apply for placements across Canada and internationally, which has jumpstarted many successful careers.
