The General Arts & Science (Certificate) program offers a foundational year for students preparing for future study in a wide range of fields. For stu­dents in the Technology stream, core courses in communications, computers, and personal development are enhanced by courses in math, chemistry, and physics. Graduates of the Technology stream are prepared for future study in college programs such as Civil Engineering Technology, Energy Systems Engineering Technician/Technology, Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technician/Technology,and Game Development Technician.

This program prepares graduates to work in many different health settings, using the latest technology to contribute to quality patient care. You’ll study bio­medical sciences, digital health, health analytics, privacy and health law.

The Canadian College of Health Information Management is a national, not-for-profit corporation that sets the accreditation standards for educational institutions and certification standards for health information professionals in Canada.

The College, incorporated in 1972, protects the public interest by governing and regulating the professional practice of more than 4,300 certified health information member registrants. In enhancing the status as a regulatory body, the College advances the professionalization of the health information industry and acknowledgement of its professionals as a key driver of policy, funding, and the care that Canadians receive.

The Canadian College of Health Information Management sets the accreditation standards for educational institutions offering health information programs in Canada.

Accreditation demonstrates to the public that a program is aligned to industry standards, as identified through the College’s needs assessment and consultation with industry. It is a voluntary, self-regulatory process to recognize those that meet or exceed the standards set for health information education. The purpose of accrediting programs is to ensure continuous quality improvement of the educational content to support the evolving health information industry.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can affect an individual’s ability to communicate, socialize and function effectively at home, school and in their community. Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) can be used to develop new skills including language, social and play skills, self-help skills, academics, motor skills, life skills and appropriate behaviour.

Students in this highly specialized program learn to use a variety of evidence-based approaches to develop the skills of individuals with ASD across the lifespan by reviewing relevant literature, developing intervention plans, implementing programs, and collecting data to ensure intervention strategies effectively meet established goals.

Graduates:

• Understand the characteristics of the full spectrum of ASD and how human development occurs in the neuro-typical population;
• Know the range of evidence-based practices in autism treatment;
• Know how to complete curriculum-based assessments and functional assessments;
• Can plan, implement, and monitor interventions based on these assessment results;
• Know the ethical and professional requirements of working in the field of ABA
• Show leadership in the workplace by contributing knowledge and skills for practical solutions related to the treatment of ASD.

As this is a graduate certificate program, students can expect an intensive workload. Classes combine theory with active learning experiences and group work. Field placements are available in a range of settings and some may require the use of a vehicle.

Successful Project management controls every aspect of the project from initial concept through design, actual task completion and implementation. Resource allocation, time and cost control are essential elements to be managed to prevent overruns.

This one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate Program prepares graduates for this rewarding managerial career in the field of Project Management. Project Management is a highly sought discipline that involves the application of knowledge, skills and techniques to execute projects effectively and efficiently. Project managers are in high demand across all industries.

Students will develop a critical understanding of the ten knowledge areas according to "A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge" (PMBOK® Guide). Students will acquire the creative, practical, and advanced expertise that contributes to the effective management of the critical elements required to ensure overall project success. This course is interactive and takes a hands-on approach to learning. 

Get started on your new career as a Law Clerk in just 46 weeks and join the workforce as a specialized professional dealing with the application of law in a variety of settings.
 
This program prepares students to work in many different legal environments including law offices, government agencies and ministries, legal clinics, financial institutions, and various business enterprises. Our three-semester curriculum provides a solid foundation in legal procedures and substantive law ap­plicable to authorized areas of work for a law clerk. Emphasis is placed on property law, civil litigation, family law, criminal law, wills and estates, legal research and writing, and business law. Students become familiar with office procedures relating to the production of legal documents and specialized legal software programs. A four-week work place­ment provides students with an opportunity to enhance their classroom experience with practical work experience and exposure to potential employers.
 
A major objective of the program is to develop law clerks who are able to complete independent legal work as part of a team supporting lawyers in the day-to-day routine of their practice. In addition, the combina­tion of business and law subjects provides a strong foundation for career choices in other settings that offer services which apply law to specific interests. Recent employment situations of this type have included real estate offices, home construction companies, insurance companies, financial institutions, government agencies, community legal clinics, academic institutions, and private corporations.

Do you have an interest in fitness and health, or helping others reach their fitness and health goals? If so, this program is for you!

This two-year curriculum includes courses in exercise science, fitness, health promotion, business management, and human relations as well as personal and professional development. Several of the courses will be delivered in the Student Health & Athletic Centre on the Kingston Campus, which provides a state-of-the-art training facility. Students will have the opportunity to obtain additional certifications including the nationally recognized Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) certification from the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology and Certified Personal Trainer, Group Fitness and Spin certifications through Ontario Fitness Council (OFC).

Graduates will offer prospective employ­ers 400 hours of practical experience in the workforce gained from two 5-week work placements in areas of health promotion, inclusive fitness, injury prevention and management, fitness assess­ment and/or personal training and occupa­tional health and corporate wellness.

The General Arts & Science Diploma provides a broad liberal arts curriculum designed with the advice of our community partners, to prepare students for the workforce, other college programs, or transfer to university. Paired with hands-on instruction, and exciting new experiential learning opportunities, General Arts and Science Diploma graduates leave us prepared for their next steps out into the world.

Core courses provide a solid foundation in communications, critical thinking skills, digital literacy, numeracy, inclusivity, science, and general education. Complementing these are varied electives such as Film, Addictions, Fitness, Psychology, and dozens more. Our students scaffold their studies by earning at least three Advanced Level Learning credits, in both applied and social sciences, math, and/or communications before graduating.

In the third and fourth semesters, GAS Diploma students will learn to research various local issues, and apply the skills and knowledge gained in the program to offer creative solutions to one specific problem in a community.

There is a high demand for skilled and knowledgeable people in all areas of the hospitality industry, especially in the food, beverage, and accommodations sectors. You will learn about a variety of topics – accommodations management, food and beverage management, specialized marketing, conferencing and banqueting, and financial management to name a few.

Our program’s curriculum remains current through regular consultation with industry leaders. This real-world input ensures that your educational needs and future career expectations are being met and that you are job-ready when you graduate. Your professors have extensive work experience in the industry and will help develop the essential skills required to be an effective supervisor, manager and leader in hospitality organizations locally, nationally and internationally. To support this development, you will participate in a four-week field placement in a qualified work site of your choice.

This program prepares you to work in the exciting world of Hospitality. By the time you leave this program, the only question remaining will be: Where in the world do you want to take your talents?

Develop knowledge and practical skill in areas of carpentry, including blueprint reading, residential and commercial construction, framing, finishing, stair manufacture, surveying, fine woodworking, commercial building practices, and more. Spend 1/3 of each week in a hands on carpentry lab setting.

Few colleges in Ontario offer an Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology program and the workforce with these skills is shrinking due to retirements. As a result demand for these skills is high and continues to grow stronger every year.

Program Highlights

Hands On: The program is practical and hands-on. Core subject areas have approximately a 2:1 ratio of lab hours to theory hours. Students will be working with the equipment found in the industry. The program provides students with a sound knowledge of process measurement and control theory. They will be trained to work in the modern team-oriented organization with emphasis on productive interaction with peers.

Flexibility: The program accommodates high school graduates, mature students making a career change and post-graduate students wishing to acquire practical skills. Students enrolled in the two-year technician program may, upon graduation, transfer directly into the more rigorous and theoretical third year and earn a technology diploma.

Job satisfaction: Control systems are the brains behind the devices that produce everyday goods and keep our environment and utilities safe. Jobs are found in municipal waste and water utilities, building environment controls as well as assembly and manufacturing. In control systems, different tasks and problem solving are performed daily. Our graduates have told us; “You never do the same thing twice”. The control systems field is continuously evolving.

Technologists will often work with equipment in a complete system, ensuring that the individual devices work as a unit. Technologists have a greater theoretical understanding of control systems, communications, programming and technical project planning, allowing them to become involved in engineering design, as well as device and system specification.

Co-operative Education Opportunities: Both the technician and technologist programs now offer co-operative education opportunities – depending on availability of positions. These paid work­place educational opportunities will expand as we cultivate more co-op positions with other firms.

Co-op opportunities occur during a four month summer term after the second and fourth semesters and/or a full year term between the fifth and sixth semesters. The number of co-op positions available each year is not predefined. Students are able to apply for positions posted by various indus­trial firms and government agencies through­out the year. These opportunities give our students valuable on-the-job experience, financial help with their educational costs and enhanced employment possibilities.
