The most valuable resources of any business are the people who work there – human resources. Business and government leaders now recognize that human resources must be managed more effectively if companies are to increase productivity in today’s competitive market. Human Resources graduates have been trained to assist in the HR development process.

The student also has an opportunity in the program to take a minor specialization in either accounting or marketing through their business elective selections (BELE 3000, 4000).

*NOTE: You can start this program in October and January. Applicants should apply at www.ontariocolleges.ca as a Business Fundamentals (0973) student. All students will start in this program and transition into the Business program area of their choice.

If you are, then this is a program that allows you to explore diverse opportunities in an industry that is a vital part of the economy and the community.

This is a unique program that is unlike traditional food and culinary programs. Taught by a multidisciplinary faculty team, it affords the learner the opportunity to gain a fundamental understanding of all segments of the supply chain from farm to table. Graduates of this program will have opportunities that span the entire food industry from food services businesses to multinational food conglomerates.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
This program offers courses that include hands-on training to permit learners to understand and experience food preparation and can relate to the importance of sanitation, and quality assurance. The program also offers the opportunities to experience research and innovation related to processes for new food products. Case studies are an integral part of the program that will look at unique safety regulations associated with genetic modification or bio-engineering of food.

Learners will use their gained knowledge in food chemistry, food safety and security, the effects of food on population health to plan portion-controlled menus. In order to achieve this the learner applies the principles and regulations associated with food procurement, preparation maintain safety and quality standards.

This program will provide you with the opportunity to excel in the vibrant, rewarding and highly mobile tourism industry. The skills you acquire in this program reflect employer needs and will help ensure that you are ready for the work environment. Art and cultural tourism, hospitality and tourism law, sport tourism, special events planning and management, eco and adventure tourism, and historical tourism are but a few of the many subject areas that you will explore.

The Wind Turbine Technician program will provide students with in depth knowledge and hands-on experience of the electrical and mechanical aspects as they relate to wind turbines. You will also learn fiberglass repair techniques as they relate to wind turbines. You will receive safety training for working at heights and in confined spaces. In order to complete this program, you must have no fear of heights and you must be physically fit.

Students who are interested in the electrical field and who successfully complete the program may be exempt from the in-school portion of the industrial electrician and construction and maintenance electrician apprenticeship certification.

The internet continues to evolve at a rapid pace and the data of organizations have never been more vulnerable than now. Cyber attacks are costing organizations hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars per occurrence, and happen so often they are often featured in the news. There is a worldwide shortage of cybersecurity professionals as every organization seeks ways to make their data more secure.

Once you graduate from this eight-month, full-time graduate certificate program, you will be equipped with skills to protect your organization’s computers, servers, networks, and applications from breaches and unauthorized access. The courses in the program will give you an edge in detecting breaches, computer forensics, threat hunting, and penetration testing.

In addition, this program is highly interdisciplinary and includes aspects of law, policy, human factors, ethics and risk management. Focused on cyber-defense training, the program ensures you are able to “think like the intruder” when deploying security techniques. Upon graduation, students acquire skills relevant to leadership roles in cybersecurity across a variety of industries and businesses.

This one-year (three semesters) program prepares students with specialized training to work within the recreation, health, education, and/or social service delivery systems serving individuals a variety of abilities. Graduates will acquire the skills to complete standardized client assessments, develop and evaluate group and individualized programs and use a variety of facilitative techniques to assist individuals to participate in meaningful recreation activities that will enhance health, improve functional ability and increase quality of life. The program is built on the core belief of the inherent benefits of play, recreation and leisure to all people. Students will learn to adapt recreation activities so people with a variety of abilities can participate and to use recreation as a therapeutic tool to improve, maintain, and/or restore health and wellness.

Our program includes face-to-face classes primarily and some online classes to provide maximum flexibility for students who may be working in the field and wanting to upgrade their credentials.

A student graduating from the Office Administration - Legal/Health Services program will graduate with two diplomas, Office Administration - Legal and Office Administration - Health Services, opening the door to a variety of employment opportunities in both the private and public work sectors. Graduate employment rates released in the fall 2019 showed 95%-100% employment.

Students will gain knowledge in the following areas:

• Technical skills:
  • Advanced level Office 365/2019 cloud-based computer application skills including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, OneNote etc.
  • Outlook 365 - students become proficient in producing professional email communications, creating folders to stay organized, use of Outlook calendar to book appointments and schedule meetings.
  • Additional software applications include PCLaw, The Conveyancer, Teraview, Automated Civil Litigation (ACL), Accuro EMR, Adobe Acrobat DC Pro and Sage 50.
  • Students will be required to achieve a keyboarding speed of 50-60 GWPM.
  • Students learn to share and edit documents in a cloud-based environment.  Using MS Teams, collaboration software students learn how to book, attend and chair virtual meetings.
• Soft skills:
  • Client, patient and customer relationships are built on the use of effective and consistent communication as well as the ability to uphold and maintain confidentiality. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively are skills that are highly valued.
  • Employers seek office administrators that are highly organized, forward thinking and have the ability to problem solve.  Students have the opportunity to enhance these skills through learning by example with regular classroom exercises and participating in the student work placement experience.

The Business Fundamentals program provides students with a broad and exploratory business education. The program will cover business basics such as accounting, marketing, human resources, business mathematics, and business communications. This program can supplement previous post-secondary education to allow students to enter a wide variety of entry level business positions. Additionally this program can allow student to explore further business education and can apply for advanced standing into the second year of the Business, Marketing, and Human Resources programs at the College.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can affect an individual’s ability to communicate, socialize and function effectively at home, school and in their community. Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) can be used to develop new skills including language, social and play skills, self-help skills, academics, motor skills, life skills and appropriate behaviour.

Students in this highly specialized program learn to use a variety of evidence-based approaches to develop the skills of individuals with ASD across the lifespan by reviewing relevant literature, developing intervention plans, implementing programs, and collecting data to ensure intervention strategies effectively meet established goals.

Graduates:

• Understand the characteristics of the full spectrum of ASD and how human development occurs in the neuro-typical population;
• Know the range of evidence-based practices in autism treatment;
• Know how to complete curriculum-based assessments and functional assessments;
• Can plan, implement, and monitor interventions based on these assessment results;
• Know the ethical and professional requirements of working in the field of ABA
• Show leadership in the workplace by contributing knowledge and skills for practical solutions related to the treatment of ASD.

As this is a graduate certificate program, students can expect an intensive workload. Classes combine theory with active learning experiences and group work. Field placements are available in a range of settings and some may require the use of a vehicle.

Child and Youth Care practitioners are specialists in facilitating change in children, youth and young adults who are experiencing a range of social, emotional and/or behavioural challenges. Children and youth respond to the impact of change, stress, loss, poverty, violence, abuse and neglect with a range of emotions and behaviours including confusion, anger, withdrawal, aggression, hopelessness, violence, and suicide. Many of the children or youth experience numerous challenges and may have a variety of diagnoses.

Additionally, increasing numbers of these youth are in conflict with the law and/or are receiving therapeutic intervention. Understanding the individual and the unique nature of his/her response is therefore an important first task. Child and Youth Care (CYC) practitioners are a valuable resource to children, youth and their families in this process. They commit themselves to understanding and interacting in therapeutic relationships with these children, youth, and their families to promote and facilitate positive change.
