The Bachelor of Arts in Africana Studies investigates the historical and contemporary experiences of Africana peoples and how they are shaped by gender, class, race and global conditions. Students choose from one of three emphases: African American History, Culture & Aesthetics; Comparative Global African Diaspora; or Performance, Media, & Digital Africana Studies. This interdisciplinary major gives students essential professional skills applicable to many careers, including the ability to understand people from any background; writing; critical thinking; public speaking; creativity; leadership; and initiative. Classes focus on literature, history, culture, film, technology, arts, politics and more. The program is a leader in digital learning and boasts the nation's first Hip-Hop minor. Students are supported by faculty and a network of community leaders, with opportunities for internships, study abroad and more.

If proficiency in both Spanish and Portuguese is important to you, consider the Spanish and Portuguese emphasis under the Spanish major. Students seeking their Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a Spanish and Portuguese emphasis take language, literature, linguistics and culture courses in both languages. The major consists of 18 credits in each language, and placement exams help determine a student's starting level. The University of Arizona is home to one of the largest Portuguese language programs in the nation, and various clubs offer students the opportunity to practice conversing in either Spanish or Portuguese outside of the classroom. In addition to several study abroad programs for Spanish-speaking students, the university offers a six-week program in Fortaleza, Brazil, for those wanting to immerse themselves in Portuguese.

Students earning the Bachelor of Music in Performance with an emphasis in Euphonium can take advantage of the Fred Fox School of Music's two concert bands, a select wind ensemble, two jazz bands, numerous jazz combos and a large and challenging orchestra program. In addition to these performance opportunities, students benefit from personalized attention and instruction. This includes a weekly lesson, a studio class, daily warm-ups and technique classes, plus ensemble and chamber coaching. The School of Music averages between 450 and 550 students, which provides opportunities that are typically only offered at larger schools of music.

The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with an emphasis in Global Journalism equips students for careers in national and international news reporting. Learn how a Thematic emphasis within the Neuroscience and Cognitive Science major allows you to focus on a specific topic of interest. Neuroscience and cognitive science are broad areas of scientific study. Students seeking the Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science with a Thematic emphasis can choose an in-depth topical focus that matches their future career, research or study goals. The Thematic emphasis is meant for students who have a clear and compelling interest in a particular topic area in neuroscience and cognitive science that falls outside the scope of the major's several other emphases. Students wishing to choose a Thematic focus will be required to explain to faculty what the topic area is and why it doesn't align with the current emphases, as well as support the objectives of their coursework. As with the other emphases, research and independent study can be used for up to six of the 15 credits required to complete an emphasis.
