Geography is the study of Earth's physical features and the complicated relationship between humans and the environment. The interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science in Geography with an emphasis in Water, Environment and Society takes this a step further. Students explore the broad scope of water supply and demand - a theme that has emerged as a critical planning issue in communities in the Western U.S. and around the world - at a school recognized as the world's No. 1 program in water resources by the Academic Ranking of World Universities. Courses examine key questions facing policymakers and train students in the methods decision-makers use to address these issues, including remote sensing, geographic information science (GIS) and field methods. Students are encouraged to pursue internships and have access to research opportunities at renowned facilities and organizations, including the Water Resources Research Center, Arizona Project WET and Biosphere 2.

Nurture a greener and healthier tomorrow with a degree that innovates new, sustainable ways to keep food fresh. The Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Plant Systems has four tracks; students in the Fresh Produce Safety track advance the latest methods for maintaining the safety of food one of the most important resources on Earth. In this Yuma-based program, students discover how production chains become contaminated with diseases, and learn Good Agricultural Practices for the harvest of leafy greens and fresh-vegetable food safety. Coursework provides insight into food safety issues, field risk assessments, facility sanitation and inspection processes. Students gain real-life experience in the applications of soil, water and plant sciences, including soil chemistry, plant nutrition and hydroponics.

How do social movements start? How do leaders gain power? Can governments run efficiently? Gain insight into these topics and more with a degree that explores political ideas. Political science is the study of government, public policy and the political behavior of individuals and groups. When students embark on a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with an emphasis in Ideas and Methods, they focus on theoretical questions that lead to real-world change. Students explore the processes, principles and structures of government and political institutions in the U.S. and in countries around the globe. Coursework covers international relations, political theory, foreign affairs, methodology and institutions, and includes hands-on internship opportunities at nonprofit organizations and government agencies. Students graduate with important writing, critical thinking and analytical skills.

Coursework at the Fred Fox School of Music aims to teach students how to achieve high-quality musical expression in performance and teaching, and to understand selected music with regard to style and form, including the ability to discuss the historical relevance and placement of a piece. Students achieving the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering study physics and materials while homing in on particular interests: dynamics and controls, mechanical design, nanotechnology, solid and fluid mechanics, or thermal sciences. The Bachelor of General Studies with a Sports and Society emphasis examines the broader economic, political, religious, cultural, ethnic and social systems that apply to the world of sports. This includes issues related to cultural, gender and socioeconomic diversity, as well as those related to the role that sports plays in society. Students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in French can opt for two areas of focus. The Language, Literature and Culture emphasis is ideal for students who are considering graduate studies in French or who are interested in achieving a high level of competency in the language. Courses are taught in French by the department's esteemed scholars in French and Francophone language. Students are encouraged to study in Paris as part of a study abroad program that is among the best-established programs at the University of Arizona. In addition to learning to communicate fluently in French, students strengthen their skills in reading, writing, critical thinking and analysis.
