As a history major, through in-depth analysis of the evolution of social, economics, cultural-intellectual and political patterns and events, you’ll develop an understanding of and appreciation for the life and development of various cultures, institutions and civilizations. You will become an expert at answering the questions “Who are we, and how did we get here?” You will learn how to situate yourself in the long continuum of human experience and how to find meaning in the past.

The skills you develop as a history major will give you the capacity to make the voices, stories and events of the past come alive and to give shape to the experiences and processes that have defined the interaction of humans with each other and with the world around them.

A selected number of history majors or minors spend their junior or senior year (or a spring or fall semester) at the University of Warwick, Coventry, England, while maintaining their normal progress toward graduation. Warwick has the United Kingdom’s second-highest-ranked history department.

The M.S. degree is an academic research degree, which may be tailored to individual interests and job market needs. This degree requires a minimum of 36 graduate hours and combines real-world problem solving and research skills with other technical, health and related skills to prepare effective environmental health researchers for the public and private sectors. M.S. program graduates are often employed within federal, state and local public health and environmental protection agencies, federal and state research laboratories, contract research laboratories, industry, consulting firms and universities. As a public relations major, you will develop strong writing and account management skills through interactive classes and extensive writing assignments. You'll learn how to create campaigns, write press releases and manage events as you develop your public relations acumen. You will work collaboratively with your classmates and be encouraged to participate activities like The Carolina Agency, our student-run advertising and public relations agency. You also have the opportunity to earn academic credit by participating in supervised internships. And as a senior in your capstone experience, you will create a comprehensive public relations campaign for an actual client. These real-life experiences will help prepare you for entry-level positions upon graduation.

The Department of Marketing at the Moore School is widely acclaimed for its scholarly expertise in various facets of consumer psychology, marketing strategy, research methods, behavioral pricing and marketing communications. It offers an undergraduate concentration in marketing as well as two Ph.D. concentrations — consumer behavior and marketing analysis.

The Department of Marketing offers an undergraduate marketing major focusing on the process of planning and executing the development, pricing, distributions and promotion of services, products and ideas. The marketing major also covers the study of economic, cultural, demographic and attitudinal factors that influence demand for products and services.

Socrates believed that the unexamined life is not worth living. Our philosophy department helps students examine the world, especially human practices and institutions, in an effort to gain understanding and wisdom.  

Philosophy majors have a wide range of educational opportunities. The department emphasizes analytical reasoning both for general education and as a preparation for pre-law students.

As a philosophy major, you will work with outstanding faculty members who promote study opportunities both at the university and overseas. You will learn how to reason analytically and develop the ability to argue persuasively. Your courses will promote reflection on either the historical developments in philosophy or ethical values as they relate to business, engineering, morality, politics and social justice. You may also choose to pursue research opportunities in nanotechnology.

This major focuses on the methods of developing financial protection against loss with emphasis on insurance principles, solving risk management problems and socioeconomic security programs.

As a risk management and insurance major, you will develop cutting-edge business knowledge and develop a strong foundation in liberal arts and sciences.
