Overview

Business - Marketing (Co-op) is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program with a co-operative education component. This program provides students with a strong foundation to gain entry to a variety of marketing career paths. Courses cover topics such as customer analysis, segmentation, and targeting; integrated marketing communications; pricing and distribution strategies; and product and service development and management. Hands-on activities include market research studies, advertising campaigns, sales and business plans - many of these activities involving live clients from industry. Students learn to use current software programs, including presentation, spreadsheet, graphic design and publishing applications. Graduates receive full credit toward a credential with the Canadian Institute of Marketing and earn credits towards the Certified Sales Professional designation offered by the Canadian Professional Sales Association. Graduates who meet admission requirements are eligible for transfer to the Business Administration - Marketing Advanced Diploma program.

Other Information

  • The Business - Marketing (Co-op) program shares a common first level with all business diploma programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business which allows for program transfer, with no loss of credit, after Level 1.
  • Graduates of the two-year Business - Marketing (Co-op) Ontario College Diploma program may apply for program transfer to the Business Administration - Marketing Ontario College Advanced Diploma program or the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Digital Marketing) Degree program. Application for Program Transfer" forms are available from the Office of the Registrar, Room E1012.  
  • All program levels are offered in the fall and winter terms to allow students to make continuous progression to meet personal or co-op education needs. Levels 1, 2 and 3 run in the summer term.
  • Students entering Level 1 of the program in January are expected to proceed into Level 2 of the program in the summer term. Students entering Level 1 of the program in February or May will proceed to Level 2 of the program in September.
  • Graduates may be eligible for admission to the following Graduate Certificate programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business: Agri-Business Management, Human Resources Management, International Business Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management, Professional Financial Services, or Project Management. Graduate Certificate programs deliver a specialized professional curriculum in two four-month levels.
  • This program is eligible for consideration of college to college transfer of credits under the Ontario Provincial ONCAT agreement.

Co-operative Education
In order to be eligible for co-op, students must maintain a 2.5 GPA and be academically complete at the commencement of their co-op work term.

Graduate Certificate in Paralegal

The Paralegal program is designed to provide students with the specialized knowledge and skills required to work as licensed Paralegals in Ontario. It is designed for those seeking licensing in accordance with the Law Society Act and under the Law Society of Ontario to become a practicing paralegal and for those who wish to upgrade their skills and broaden their areas of knowledge and expertise in authorized areas of practice.

Provincial legislation requires Paralegals to be licensed to practice in the areas of Small Claims Court, Provincial Offences, Summary Conviction Offences and Administrative Tribunals in Ontario. This program has been accredited by the LSUC and designed in accordance with LSUC curriculum requirements and core competencies and provides training in those areas in which a Licensed Paralegal may legally practice.

There is an extensive field training component of 120 hours to provide students the opportunity to gain practical hands-on experience in a legal environment.

This three-year co-operative program provides training in both the municipal and structural areas. The design of steel frame and reinforced concrete buildings is studied in the structural courses. Training is provided in materials testing and computer-aided drafting. Municipal topics include the design and construction of water distribution systems, storm, and sanitary sewerage networks, storm water management and highways. Theories for the treatment of water, sewage, and solid wastes are analyzed. Survey courses provide training in the use of high-tech survey equipment and techniques of plane surveying, as related to the Civil Engineering profession. Are you interested in an exciting career in Event Planning? Planning a big or small event requires extensive planning from choosing the venue, reviewing contracts, to the finer details of guest lists, decor, marketing and sponsorship.

Special Events Planning is a two-year diploma program designed for individuals interested in a career in event management. Designed by industry professionals, students will be exposed to the vast types of special events, from social events, corporate meetings, festivals, conventions and large sporting events. Students will develop essential event management skills such as planning, assessment, communication, critical thinking.

This program will explore current trends and technologies in the event industry, including; software applications, food and beverage, PR and sponsorship logistics, risk management,  business tools and more. Students will gain hands-on experience in planning, marketing and executing events.

This three-year Commercial Flight and Aviation Leadership Advanced Diploma is designed to prepare domestic and international students for a career in aviation.

The Plumbing Techniques program is an Ontario College Certificate program designed to prepare graduates for entrance into a plumbing career through the understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of the plumbing trade and the associated tools and materials. The program introduces the student to principles of design, planning sustainable construction, contemporary building methods,  structural and environmental engineering related to architectural construction. This co-operative education program consists of six academic terms and four work terms over a 3.3 to 3.7 year period.

Fine Art Foundation is a one-year certificate program designed to give a broad base of experience and knowledge in the visual arts.  This foundation year introduces students to the fundamentals of art and design: practical skills, critical thinking and visual vocabulary.  Studies in this program include painting, drawing, video, sculpture, photography and art history.  Through studio based projects students will develop a portfolio of work in a range of media.  This program prepares students for the Advanced Diploma program in Fine Art at Fanshawe College, or advanced arts programs at other institutions, as well as prepares students who are seeking entry-level employment opportunities requiring fundamental visual arts skills.

The Computer Systems Technology program is an accredited, three-year co-operative education, Ontario College Advanced Diploma program which provides comprehensive training for students wishing to work in the high demand areas of network, security, virtualization, data storage and management and systems operation and management.  This program provides the students the ability to be effective team leaders, think critically, solve problems and acquire new skills quickly.

Under the guidance of expert faculty, combined with the use of leading edge labs, the program emphasizes the design, implementation, configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, management, as well as the hands-on installation of networking, security, VoIP, mobile devices, virtualization, data storage and management, server, workstation and operating systems technologies.

Instruction in project management, communication and interpersonal skills prepare the student to effectively interact with all levels of users in both oral and written mediums.
