Fanshawe College’s Public Relations - Corporate Communications program is designed to prepare college and university graduates to enter the exciting and challenging world of communications. Students will hone their writing and presentation skills, learn the latest digital communication and web design techniques, and analyze public relations and ethics challenges.

A second-term field placement allows students to put these new skills to work. Students will make business contacts through professional associations and complete course work with a community focus. The curriculum is current, community-minded, and developed by professional communicators. 

Developing superior writing skills, combined with an emphasis on teamwork, graphic design skills, and technological savvy gives graduates of this program a competitive edge. This program is best suited to individuals with already above-average writing skills, an outgoing personality and an ability to see solutions when others are focusing on problems. This program, as the name implies, shall give Engineering students a one-year, intensive training in the practical elements associated with their profession, such as CAD, Blueprint Reading, Machining and Welding.  The program has been created to complement the theoretical skills that they presently obtain in their formal studies.

• Solve complex technical problems related to mechanical environments and evaluate solutions according to accepted engineering principles.
• Design and analyze mechanical components, processes, and systems through the application of complex engineering principles and practices.
• Create graphics and other technical documents and evaluate these documents against appropriate engineering standards.
• Utilize current and relevant hardware and software to support the mechanical engineering environment.
• Design components using knowledge of manufacturing processes.
• Apply knowledge of materials and engineering principles to manufacturing operations andprocesses as required.
• Select and utilize various machinery, tools, and other equipment used in manufacturing processes as required.
• Coordinate, conduct and analyze quality control and quality assurance procedures.

The Recreation and Leisure Services program is committed to developing the leadership skills of each of its students to support the achievement of recreation and leisure outcomes for individuals, groups and communities. Through concentrated academic and field work over the two years, students acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies to promote community development and involvement and to plan and implement special events and programs in a variety of recreation fields. This is practised in settings which emphasize planning, implementation and evaluation that can respond to the multi-dimensional needs of all members of the community. The students will be able to develop benefits based programming that addresses recreation as an essential service; one that can effectively respond to a variety of individual or community needs.

Business - Supply Chain and Operations (Co-op) is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program with a co-operative education component. The curriculum covers theory and application of supply chain management in private and public sector environments. Specifically, courses address material sourcing, transportation methods, inventory, retail management, negotiation skills and analytical techniques. Students also enhance their computer skills and their business communication skills. The program aligns to the curriculum of various professional associations in supply chain management. Graduates, equipped with the skills required to improve an organization's profitability and operations, are in high demand in both the private and public sector.

• Apply knowledge of the functional components of logistics to the interrelationships in the integrated supply chain;
• Employ a working knowledge of operations processes and systems required in manufacturing, distribution, and services;

• Apply best practices for inventory planning and control throughout the integrated system;

Co-operative Education

• In order to be eligible for co-op, students must maintain a 2.5 GPA and be academically complete at the commencement of their co-op work term.
• This is a two-year co-operative education program.  Students who fulfill both the academic and co-op requirements of the program will be eligible to graduate with a Co-op Endorsed Diploma.  More information about co-operative education can be found at www.fanshawec.ca/co-op.

Fine Art Foundation is a one-year certificate program designed to give a broad base of experience and knowledge in the visual arts.  This foundation year introduces students to the fundamentals of art and design: practical skills, critical thinking and visual vocabulary.  Studies in this program include painting, drawing, video, sculpture, photography and art history.  Through studio based projects students will develop a portfolio of work in a range of media.  This program prepares students for the Advanced Diploma program in Fine Art at Fanshawe College, or advanced arts programs at other institutions, as well as prepares students who are seeking entry-level employment opportunities requiring fundamental visual arts skills.

This graduate certificate program is designed to prepare students to teach English as a Second (or Foreign) Language in Canada and/or overseas.  The program covers topics integrating theoretical, pedagogical, and practical applications for teaching English as a second or foreign language, meeting educational standards set by TESL Ontario.  Additionally, this program includes courses to enhance professional and intercultural communication skills, knowledge, and experience.

This three year Building Renovation Technology Advanced Diploma program will prepare students to plan, implement, and lead building and renovation projects and equip them with the skills to manage the technical and business operations related to a range of building projects in the residential and light commercial sectors of the construction industry.  The program will address the changes in Ontario Building Code, introduced in January 2017, which dramatically increased the requirement for buildings to be sustainable and highly energy efficient.

Co-operative Education
This three year program has two co-operative education work terms.  Students can choose to participate in a four-month paid co-op term from May to August between years one and two of academic study.  The second work term is eight months and takes place May to December following the completion of the second year of academic study.

Business - Payroll and Bookkeeping is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. The program provides graduates with knowledge of 1) payroll and human resources practices including compensation and benefits, and 2) bookkeeping practices and related accounting software applications. Graduates will have met the educational requirements for the Payroll Compliance Practitioner designation and will have three advanced standing credits towards completion of the Certified Payroll Manager designation with the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA). In addition, graduates will have also completed the academic requirements for the Certified Bookkeeper designation with the Canadian Institute of Bookkeeping (CIB). Graduates will be well prepared for self-employment or for entry-level careers in accounting, bookkeeping, taxation and payroll administration in a variety of industries.

• Support the accounting, human resource and payroll functions of an organization through the application of contemporary business communication practices and effective interpersonal skills.

• Use current payroll legislation to prepare individual pay including remuneration and deductions to net pay.
• Prepare payroll remittances and year end documentation for federal, provincial and third party stakeholders.
• Process payroll and accounting source documents to complete an accounting cycle using appropriate technology.
• Develop a comprehensive business plan for a payroll or bookkeeping business.

The professional faculty, including Registered Massage Therapists, medical professionals and seasoned professors will provide students with a high calibre experience. Students will learn, first hand, that the practice of massage therapy is the "assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissues and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain," as according to The Massage Therapy Act of Ontario. The Massage Therapy program at Fanshawe College is both challenging and rewarding. Through this program, you can acquire more than the core knowledge and skills required to succeed as a massage therapist.

Theory and practice are integral to the program, and students will be exposed to directly learning the skills of a Massage Therapist in the first level. Individual attention is spent by the faculty to ensure you achieve the utmost from your education. Many adjunct therapies to the Massage Therapist will be studied, including: sport massage, clinical massage, pregnancy massage; to name a few.

Successful students will be recommended to the CMTO for their entry exams to the profession. The faculty at Fanshawe College will provide every measure to ensure you receive the greatest preparatory education to take these exams with confidence.

The Advanced Filmmaking program is an Ontario College Graduate Certificate program which builds upon the students previous diploma/degree skills by providing opportunities to work in cross-functional teams to create both narrative and documentary films, television productions, and other media. All phases of digital filmmaking will be experienced, including pre-production, production, and post-production. Students will collaborate with students in other College programs (television, acting, fashion, multimedia, music industry arts) in the creation of digital media products.

• Create narrative and documentary films, television productions, and other media (such as webcasts) that illustrate the application of aesthetic and theoretical principles of filmmaking;
• Identify and develop stories and scripts for narrative and documentary films and other media, for both general and specific audiences;
• Plan and apply appropriate pre-production techniques to prepare for the efficient and cost-effective production of narrative and documentary films and other media;
• Produce and direct narrative and documentary films and other media to commercial, technical, legal and ethical standards by working independently or in a crew;
• Operate digital cameras, audio, editing and lighting equipment during the creation of documentary and narrative films and other media.
• Produce market-ready narrative and documentary films and other media by collaborating with post-production experts;
• Plan media-marketing/distribution strategies for a variety of venues and formats;
• Lead co-workers and others in all phases of film development, through the application of superior communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem solving skills.
