Overview

The Addictions and Mental Health one-year program will be beneficial for seasoned practitioners who are committed to maintaining currency, and/or who are seeking career advancement. Students who are newly graduated from post-secondary may also wish to enroll in this program to deepen their knowledge and skill base prior to entering the workforce. Opportunities to work in varying sectors such as child, adult, family and gerontology-based programs may broaden for students who complete this Graduate Certificate. The intent of this program will be to ready students to work in a variety of Human Services settings such as community programs, residential care, social service programs, early childhood and family centres, recreation and leisure services, gerontology programs, group homes as well as any other settings that support prevention, intervention and treatment of addictions and/or mental health.

Learning Outcomes

  • Use a bio-psycho-spiritual framework when providing addictions and mental health services;

Business - Finance is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. This program is designed to develop the skills needed to work in the growing personal financial services sector, from customer service to wealth management and financial planning. Students will learn to work with clients, evaluating their needs and offer advice on personal financial management, tax and retirement planning, insurance, investments, and estate planning, as well as customer relations and providing product to clients. Fashion Marketing and Management is the business of fashion. We provide the knowledge with the hands on approach to prepare you for a dynamic career in retail. Our three areas of study focus on business, technology and visual presentation with emphasis on principles of marketing and management. Students will be responsible for the retail operations of our program campus store Live Chic and LiveChic.ca through buying, sales, inventory, merchandising, visual presentation, marketing and social media.

Co-operative Education

Graduate Certificate in Advanced Ergonomic Studies

This program will provide students with opportunities to expand and strengthen their fundamental understanding of the science of ergonomics. Both in the lab and in the classroom, students will learn to use analytical tools for quantitative and qualitative assessments of employees’ job related tasks in the workplace. Current technologies and techniques will be examined in addition to application of theoretical principles to worker-workspace interactions. Additional topics of study include: the legislative and regulatory environment, the role of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, and the financial impacts of injury.

The Pre-Media program is a one-year foundational certificate program designed to introduce the student to various media industries. This preliminary year is intended to provide the student with the opportunity to sample from and discover the various aspects unique to each media program within the School of Contemporary Media. This will allow the student to gain a solid understanding in preparation for a more focused education within a specific media field. The program will offer a hands-on experience using industry standard software taught by creative educators and industry professionals.

Business - Human Resources is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. Students learn business basics such as accounting, communications, and computer applications, then focus on HR subjects such as training and development, recruitment, compensation, benefits, employment law and occupational health and safety.  In addition, students have the opportunity to achieve six of the nine Certified Human Resources Professional/Leader (CHRP/CHRL) credits. In their final semester, in class students have the opportunity to participate in a mentorship with an HR professional to experience first-hand the HR workplace environment. Graduates are in demand for HR generalist  jobs as well as in recruiting, compensation and benefits, training and development and health and safety. The Motive Power Technician (Diesel) Diploma program is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program.  The program is designed to develop graduates with essential advanced technical, organizational, interpersonal, administrative and managerial skills required for the heavy duty service industry as well as providing progressive and comprehensive learning experiences on internal combustion compression ignition engines, power trains and related modern heavy duty systems. Students will learn to communicate effectively, diagnose and solve problems logically and to undertake responsible work tasks with a minimum of supervision.

Graduates may also be in a favourable status if they wish to apply for our alternative Motive Power Technician (Automotive) Diploma program. Credit for those courses that bridge our diploma programs will be granted; therefore, significantly reducing the requirements for this second Ontario College Diploma.

The Broadcast Journalism - Television News Ontario College Graduate Certificate program is designed to prepare informed, principled, creative and disciplined Broadcast Journalists for a career in Television News. The unique program focus is designed to train the news Videographer/Reporter/Producer.

The Photography program provides training for students in the professional aspects of the photography industry. Digital SLR instruction will prepare the student for work in photojournalism, architectural, advertising, fashion, product, industrial, public relations, portrait, and wedding photography.
