The professional faculty, including Registered Massage Therapists, medical professionals and seasoned professors will provide students with a high calibre experience. Students will learn, first hand, that the practice of massage therapy is the "assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissues and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain," as according to The Massage Therapy Act of Ontario. The Massage Therapy program at Fanshawe College is both challenging and rewarding. Through this program, you can acquire more than the core knowledge and skills required to succeed as a massage therapist.

Theory and practice are integral to the program, and students will be exposed to directly learning the skills of a Massage Therapist in the first level. Individual attention is spent by the faculty to ensure you achieve the utmost from your education. Many adjunct therapies to the Massage Therapist will be studied, including: sport massage, clinical massage, pregnancy massage; to name a few.

Successful students will be recommended to the CMTO for their entry exams to the profession. The faculty at Fanshawe College will provide every measure to ensure you receive the greatest preparatory education to take these exams with confidence.

The Public Safety Fundamentals (PSF) program is a one-year preparatory studies certificate program designed to provide opportunities for students to experience post-secondary public safety studies in a supportive environment. The program provides a pathway for those students interested in pursuing a career in the field of public safety, mature applicants returning to school, and applicants who are seeking further information prior to making a public safety program choice. The PSF program is delivered in two 15 week terms offering combined in-class, blended and online courses, and incorporating experiential learning.

The program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to build a strong knowledge base in fundamental public safety skills relevant to, and in preparation for, their chosen public safety program. Skills in communication, human behaviour, law and ethics, physical fitness, sensitivity training and knowledge of specific public safety disciplines (e.g., Justice, Protection & Policing, Legal) will prepare the student for entry level employment in public safety related fields or for future studies in public safety career programs. This certificate programs focus is to instill an appreciation of the professional roles, responsibilities and academic requirements of public safety disciplines. In the program, students will develop skills and strategies they can use to master the challenges of post-secondary education and those found in the workplace. Students will also participate in self-assessments of aptitudes and skills, labour market assessments, job search techniques and strategies, and the writing of employment search correspondence and resumes. The concept of professional portfolios will be introduced.

In the first level of the program, given the foundational nature of the program, the curriculum will focus on fundamental skills in areas such as strategies for college success, communications, practical math, computer basics, human behaviour and ethics. In the second level of this program, students will be required to select and follow one of the School of Public Safety program streams such that the students second level studies aligns with their School of Public Safety (SoPS) diploma program goal.

The following program streams of study are available:
Justice, Protection and Policing: Designed for students interested in pursuing a justice, protection or policing career program in the School of Public Safety.
Legal: Designed for students interested in pursuing a legal career program in the School of Public Safety.
Fire: Designed for students interested in pursuing a career in fire sciences.
Students interested in pursuing a career in emergency telecommunications may choose either the Legal or Justice, Protection and Policing program stream for Level 2.
Students who successfully complete the program may receive additional consideration when applying for admission to public safety and other career programs.
Important Note: Students need to be aware that the preferred designated preparatory program for the Paramedic Program is the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program.

Learning Outcomes

• Develop an education and career plan within the range of field of public safety professions, including the preparation of resumé and cover letter;
• Identify major theoretical models associated with the study of human behaviour to explain their potential impact on public safety;
• Evaluate various aspects of the changing society and the impact of these changes on personal and social responsibility for citizens and public safety workers;
• Select and use relevant and appropriate terminology when communicating with other public safety providers;
• Apply concepts from one of the following areas of scientific study in order to demonstrate relevance to a field of public safety: chemistry, anatomy, biology, ecology, climatology, computer science;
• Identify current policies, procedures and legislation in Canada's legal system as pertains to the field of Canadian Public Safety;
• Compare and contrast the professional roles of a specific public safety stream.

The program consists of four academic levels and eight months of co-op working in industry. The program prepares graduates for employment in areas such as numerically controlled machines programming, tool design, production planning, statistical process control, value engineering, advanced machining and maintenance engineering throughout the manufacturing industry. Modern numerically controlled CNC and CAD/CAM equipment is utilized in this program.

Other Information
Graduates of the two-year Manufacturing Engineering Technician (Co-op) Ontario College Diploma program may apply to Level 5 of the Manufacturing Engineering Technology (Co-op) program to complete the requirements for an Ontario College Advanced Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering Technology. Students wishing to continue into the Manufacturing Engineering Technology (Co-op) program must complete an "Application for Program Transfer" form available from the Office of the Registrar, Room E1012.
This program will be delivered over two years, which includes four academic levels and two 4-month co-op terms.
A CONNECT lab fee of $50.00 per academic term is included in the Additional Program Fees stated in the Fee Schedule. This fee helps cover costs associated with the delivery of the CONNECT mobile computing program.   

Co-operative Education
In order to be eligible for co-op, students must maintain a 2.0 GPA and be academically complete at the commencement of their co-op work term.
This is a two-year Co-operative Education program.  Students who fulfill both the academic and co-op requirements of the program will be eligible to graduate with a Co-op Endorsed Diploma.  More information about co-operative education can be found at www.fanshawec.ca/co-op.

Ontario enjoys consistent demand for welders and this program is designed to allow students to graduate with a skill set that meets the needs of even the most current manufacturing environments. Students will enjoy a mix of theoretical and practical learning in Fanshawe's new state-of-the-art welding lab.  The program features a significant amount of in-lab practice time to allow students to master their craft.  Instruction will incorporate emerging technologies like virtual/augmented reality, robotics and pulse welding. Students will have the opportunity to enhance their employability by earning Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certifications. The program includes a co-op work experience.

Insurance and Risk Management is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program designed for university and college graduates looking for a career in the property and casualty insurance industry. This program will allow students to earn credits towards the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation from the Insurance Institute of Canada.

• Use current and relevant insurance industry-specific terminology in all stakeholder communications.
• Identify, select and apply risk management concepts to the four major categories of risk: hazard, operational, financial and strategic.
• Assess the techniques risk management professionals use to finance the negative consequences of risk events in multifaceted scenarios.
• Recommend assessment and treatment techniques for the major categories of risk faced by an organization, with an emphasis on hazard risk.
• Evaluate the clauses, terms and conditions of various insurance policy wordings in order to determine the appropriate coverage for complex risks.

This one-year graduate certificate is designed for university and college graduates looking for a career in the marketing management sector. The mix of digital marketing courses offered will provide you with a competitive advantage in today's job market. Fanshawe is the only college to work with Google, the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization and WordTracker, which gives you unique opportunities to develop search engine marketing skills and conduct real search engine marketing campaigns on the Internet. You'll graduate with superior analytical, decision-making, and communication skills, and be ready for a successful career in sales, marketing research, advertising and promotion, event planning, direct marketing, digital marketing, marketing analytics, promotions management, brand management, public relations, and/or media sales.

In the program, you'll dig deep into marketing's role in driving value for business via both web-based and face-to-face strategies you will learn by being exposed to real life business issues. You'll be mentored to manage, develop and justifying marketing strategies, and presenting your creative ideas to your peers and to real business clients.

In-class students can also apply for the opportunity to further develop their marketing consulting skills, with the option of substituting two courses for the intensive community consultancy program, working with real business live clients.

This two-year program is designed to prepare students for basic social work practice in social agencies and social welfare programs, both public and private, by providing them with a sound knowledge of human behaviour, of individual and social problems and of the necessary helping techniques and skills.

The Broadcasting - Radio program is a highly concentrated hands-on approach to training students for careers in radio broadcasting and emerging broadcast media.  Students operate four broadcast properties in Fanshawe College's School of Contemporary Media building, which is equipped with the latest in broadcast technology.  CIXX-FM (106.9) is Canada's first licensed instructional radio station at full power FM utilizing the latest digital control rooms and production equipment. Areas of study include: On-Air Performance, Creative Writing, Audio and Commercial Production, Sales/Marketing/Promotions, Music and Programming and Web and Social Media content development.  Listen live to students perform on 106.9 CIXX-FM, The X at www.1069thex.com, The Falcon at www.thefalcon.ca, CFRL Radio at www.cfrlradio.ca, and Stellar Radio, live video and audio at livestream.com/stellar_radio.  Broadcasting - Radio students learn in a live on-air environment while performing on-air and various job functions identical to those in the Broadcast industry

• Monitor and evaluate the quality of radio broadcasts using appropriate relevant resources, tools and equipment which meet current industry standards.
• Assist in promoting the a station's brand and generating revenues through a variety of marketing and advertising sales activities.
• Plan and prepare interviews, scripts and reporting content for use in radio broadcasts.
• Use business skills and accepted industry practices in the completion of tasks and projects.
• Keep current with the needs of the broadcast industry using strategies that enhance work performance and guide professional development.
• Perform all work in compliance with relevant statutes, regulations, legislation, industry standards and company policies.
• Present live programming on air to relay various types of information and stories in different formats.

The Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Digital Marketing) program is a four-year, honours level degree with a mandatory co-op work term between Levels 7 and 8.  Students will study core fundamentals of business including business strategy, management, human resources, accounting and leadership in addition to the specialized digital marketing courses, including brand management and media integration, analytics, strategic website management and search engine marketing. Students will be well prepared to write certification exams within the digital marketing field upon graduation.

The Fanshawe Customer Service Fundamentals – Insurance program will get you on the right path to employment success. Beginning with an overview of business and insurance customer service (theory and practice) with a focus on distribution systems, you'll learn everything you need to work in a customer service role in an insurance brokerage, agency or direct insurance writer's office. This program is a great first step to more qualifications and you'll walk away with diverse skills needed for the modern and dynamic business world. Available in a traditional in-class format with September admission.

There are options to transfer directly into the second year of Fanshawe's Business Insurance program and earn your diploma in just two additional semesters.

When you graduate, you'll be eligible to write your Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) or OTL licensing exams, you may also be eligible to obtain your General Insurance Essentials certificates from the Insurance Institute of Canada.
