You must maintain a 75% overall average and an average of 65% in ACCT 72, ACCT4, ACCT22, ACCT 76, ACCT 80, ACCT 23, and ACCT 77 in order to meet the requirements of the accounting specialization degree at Trent, and the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Canada professional accreditation body.

As an Environmental Technician, you will work to prevent environmental problems, resolve environmental issues when necessary, and provide education to the public.

Program Highlights
Throughout this program, you will engage in a wide range of hands-on environmental training activities to complement your in-class courses. As a result, you'll be well-prepared to monitor and improve the natural environment.

  • Our Environmental Technician program has achieved accreditation by the Canadian Environmental Accreditation Commission (CEAC), a standing committee of Environmental Careers Organization (ECO) Canada.
  • Students are eligible for a number of environmental certifications through ECO Canada, including Environmental Professional (EP) and Environmental Professional-in-Training (EPt).
  • Graduates of the Environmental Technician program who successfully pass the Certification Examination in the Water Treatment and Pollution Control course will have met the requirements of the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Control (MOECC) Entry-Level Course for Drinking Water Operators (which must be obtained in order to be employed as a Drinking Water Operator). The course is delivered by Fleming College in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment and the Walkerton Clean Water Centre.
  • Students also acquire four MOECC Operator-in-Training Certificates ("OIT's") in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection required for employment in the drinking water and wastewater treatment disciplines.
  • The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) conditionally recognizes program graduates as meeting academic requirements for certification as C. Tech. (Certified Technician)

Optional Co-op
Students entering the program in September may apply to participate in an optional paid co-op. The deadline to apply is at the end of November, where students must submit an Application Form (including a resume) to the Co-op Office. Students must achieve a 70% (2.5 GPA) average, and pass all courses in Semester 1 in order to be enrolled in the Co-op Option. Students who are accepted will participate in a Career Preparation course, and will do their co-op between semesters 2 and 3. The Co-op Option provides the opportunity to:

  • Integrate classroom learning with work-based learning
  • Explore the variety of careers available in the field
  • Network for future job opportunities

The Co-op Option is not available for students who begin the program in January, as they attend classes over the summer.

Fleming College's Paralegal program is specifically designed to prepare you, as a graduate, to meet Ontario’s paralegal licensing standards. The program is accredited by the Law Society of Ontario.

Program Highlights
The Fleming Paralegal diploma is accredited with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO ). The LSO is the governing body for paralegals. Fleming program courses meet all competency requirements and prepare you to write the licensing exam and become a member of the LSO. As a licensed paralegal in Ontario you can commission documents and represent clients dealing with lawsuits falling within the jurisdiction of Small Claims Court. You can act for people facing summary conviction charges under municipal by-laws, provincial statutes or the Criminal Code. Some serve as by-law enforcement personnel, or act in a prosecutorial capacity for municipal governments. Paralegals are also trained to assist clients through the potentially complex proceedings of tribunals such as the Landlord and Tenant Board, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, or the Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal. The Developmental Services Worker program focuses on providing support to people with various intellectual disabilities, such as Down Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Traumatic Brain Injury and neurocognitive disorders, learning disabilities and/or physical disabilities. Graduates have the knowledge, skills and attitudes that include - and exceed - compassionate caring to support the empowerment of people with disabilities, while providing leadership in promoting social inclusion and helping people accomplish their goals and reach their dreams.

This two–year Ontario College diploma program is designed to provide the specialized skills required for professionals who make a difference every day in the lives of children, youth and adults who have disabilities as well as their support network at home, and in the community, (school, recreation, mental health and addictions, justice supports, employment support and more).

WORK EXPERIENCE
An essential component of your education will include experiential learning through course work as well as field placements. Three supervised field placements provide students with varied practical and networking experience where many students receive job offers. Students will also complete the last portion of their facilitation certificate by creating a Person-Directed Plan with a person they have built a relationship with throughout the program. Students will put theory into practice to help support and provide empowerment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. ENTRY TO UNIVERSITY
Trent University Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science
This program was developed in collaboration with Trent University. As a result, Trent University will grant a total of five first year credits (in English, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, plus one unassigned credit) to graduates of this program who achieve an overall average of 70%, and no individual grade of less than 65% in their Literature, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Composition and Critical Analysis courses. Successful program graduates will have obtained the credits required for first year of Trent's Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. (Other Trent degree programs also recognize these Fleming courses for advanced standing.)

Trent University Indigenous Bachelor of Education
To be eligible, applicants are required to self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit, and must also have achieved a 75% cumulative average in the University Transfer program. Successful applicants will be awarded five credits out of the 25 credit degree.

Carleton University Bachelor of Arts
At Carleton University, program graduates with an overall average of 70% or higher may be granted up to five full transfer credits, equivalent to first year towards the Bachelor of Arts degree.
A growing number of other universities recognize the program for significant credit towards their degrees.

Experiential Learning
In the Applied Projects course, you will take on the role of a marketing consultant for a corporate or non-profit client. During this intensive project, you will be guided by a faculty mentor to deliver results that meet your client's objectives. This experience provides you with a broad skill set, including marketing, project management, creative thinking and communication skills; plus the confidence in your abilities that will set you apart as a preferred candidate when you enter the job market.

  • You will also have the opportunity to complete the 6th semester at the University of Turku in Finland to gain international business and cultural experience.
  • In the classroom you will learn hands-on, using the latest in business industry simulation software and case studies from the Ivey School of Business as well as other real-world company cases.

Develop the competencies needed for application to the Trent-Fleming Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, for application to science degrees, or to advanced diploma programs at Fleming College.

Program Highlights
This program is designed to provide you with the core knowledge, skills and abilities fundamental to academic success in health sciences and other related programs at the advanced diploma or degree level. Develop your knowledge and skills in writing and research, mathematics, human anatomy, biology, and organic/inorganic chemistry to be well-prepared for the rigors of your next academic program. The program will provide you with extensive hands-on, laboratory-based learning experience in preparation for post-secondary level science programs. You will also have the opportunity to learn about potential careers in the health sciences and to identify other programs focusing on the biological or chemical sciences that will enable you to achieve your career objectives. This is a two-semester certificate-level program leading to an Ontario College Certificate.
