Experiential Learning
In the Applied Projects course, you will take on the role of a marketing consultant for a corporate or non-profit client. During this intensive project, you will be guided by a faculty mentor to deliver results that meet your client's objectives. • You will also have the opportunity to complete the 6th semester at the University of Turku in Finland to gain international business and cultural experience.

Delivered at our campus in Peterborough, this is one of the few two-year Graphic Design advanced diploma programs offered in Ontario. In this intensive, compressed program, three years of study is completed over a two- year period. Graduates are ready to start their graphic design careers in just 24 months.

Students in Fleming’s accelerated graphic design program learn and work in a unique, contemporary design studio space; in this “classroom as design lab and studio,” they discover what it takes to become a professional designer, and how to thrive in this fast-paced industry.

The Tourism-Global Travel program combines practical hands-on experiences with class lectures. Students learn the key elements of the travel business through courses such as: Discovering Destinations, Customer Service Management, Tour Operations, Tourism Trends, Marketing, Travel Reservations, Digital Media, Adventure & Ecotourism and Hospitality Sales & Service, plus electives in business and general education courses. WORK EXPERIENCE
You have the opportunity to travel on a field trip and volunteer on projects with local people, experience and understand why people travel to resort destinations. You are also required to solicit and complete a minimum of 200 hours of field placement, to practice the theories and skills studied in class. It is recommended that students complete 100 hours between semester two and three and the remainder before graduating. This gives you the opportunity to network and meet potential employers.

Occupational Therapist Assistants and Physiotherapist Assistants work with registered occupational therapists and physiotherapists to enable clients to cope with their limitations in movement, daily function, activity and/or occupational performance, whether temporary or permanent.

With ever-increasing numbers of aging people requiring assistance to continue a full life, the need has never been greater for occupational therapists(OTs), physiotherapists (PTs) and their assistants. While a great deal of work these days is with seniors, there's also much to be done with those recovering from surgery, health conditions such as cancer or stroke, and chronic conditions such as arthritis. You can help people get back into their lives - as an Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant.

As an OTA and PTA, you'll help awaken people's physical potential - and learn more about yourself in the process. Throughout the deliberately broad-based four-semester program, you'll learn how to assist clients to achieve their health goals.

Work Experience
Field experience is an integral aspect of the OTA & PTA program and is highly valued by students as they welcome the opportunity to integrate in-class studies with hands-on experience. Students are assigned to a variety of clinical settings throughout second, third and fourth semester. Students, with the assistance of a faculty member, arrange their final eight week culminating clinical experience. Fleming staff is committed to meeting national accreditation standards by ensuring that students accumulate a minimum of 500 clinical hours, with no less than 30% (150) of these hours being in each discipline.

As a Cultural Heritage Conservation and Management specialist, you will learn a wide range of techniques to save the fragile reminders and markers of the past - preserved for future generations to learn from and enjoy.

Program Highlights
The fundamental role of the conservation professional is to preserve and conserve, as appropriate, cultural property for present and future generations. We have a lot to learn from the experiences and events of people who have gone before us. However, we can't learn much from the past if we don't have records of it. Imagine how much history is lost to us when an ancient artifact is destroyed by perfectly well-meaning people who want to save it.

This two-year Ontario College graduate certificate is an intensive, fast-paced learning experience that you will undertake in four consecutive semesters. You'll start your classes in September and spend your first three semesters, during the fall, winter and summer, at the college. Following your introduction to the field of conservation, you will gain valuable, applied and skills-based experience in the care and handling of most common museum materials, including ceramics, glass, stone, metals, wooden objects, leather and proteinaceous materials, textiles, works of art on paper, books, archival materials, photographs and modern materials. Updated curriculum reflects a focus on hands-on skills, experienced based learning, practical applications, beyond best practices and professional standards rooted in ethical applications. Once you've learned the theory and practical skills, you'll treat museum artifacts from local, regional, and national sites. Complementary courses, workshops, assignments, and community-based projects will offer off campus opportunities to practice conservation methods. A full-time, unpaid, curriculum-based internship in your final semester (September to December) provides an invaluable learning and work experience.

There are many opportunities to get practical experience both at the college and off-campus. In your fourth semester, you will take on a challenging, full-time, unpaid curriculum-based internship at an approved site. Students should be prepared to relocate for the internship, to pay full tuition fees, and be self-supporting during this semester. You will negotiate your own internship with faculty assistance and some students have participated in internships abroad. The internship is an unpaid study experience.Students are responsible for negotiating additional paperwork and funding requirements for international internships including visas, travel and insurance. The Mental Health and Addiction program has been redesigned to ensure graduates are skilled in both mental health and addictions according to the latest industry standards. 

GRADUATES OF THE MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTION PROGRAM WILL:

• Gain the skills to work in a variety of settings supporting clients, families, groups and communities affected by substance use and mental health issues.
• Acquire the ability to critically analyze multiple and intersecting causes and impacts of substance use and mental health issues. This multidimensional approach integrates Anti-Oppressive Practice (AOP), and Indigenous approaches to working in the field of mental health and addiction.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
During the first semester of your educational journey, you will be introduced to the field with courses in Human Service, Power Privilege and Oppression, Counselling Interventions I, and Mental Health and Recovery. You will also learn about Indigenous Studies.
In your second semester you will build on the knowledge gained in first semester to learn much more about substance use and mental health. Courses focus on the Understanding Substance Use, Screening and Assessment, Case Management and Service Coordination, Prevention and Health Promotion, Counselling Interventions II and Ethics and Professional Practice.
Third semester helps you explore Trauma Specific Treatment Interventions, Family and Social Support, Understanding Concurrent Disorders, Building Capacity in Communities, Counselling Interventions III and Professional Practice.
The fourth and final semester integrates what you have learned in the classroom over the previous three semesters during a professional field placement experience. Field placement learning can take place anywhere in the province, or across Canada. Students will also complete and online Psychopharmacology course while on field placement.

Program Highlights
The Fleming Paralegal diploma is accredited with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO ). The LSO is the governing body for paralegals. Fleming program courses meet all competency requirements and prepare you to write the licensing exam and become a member of the LSO. As a licensed paralegal in Ontario you can commission documents and represent clients dealing with lawsuits falling within the jurisdiction of Small Claims Court. You can act for people facing summary conviction charges under municipal by-laws, provincial statutes or the Criminal Code. Some serve as by-law enforcement personnel, or act in a prosecutorial capacity for municipal governments. Paralegals are also trained to assist clients through the potentially complex proceedings of tribunals such as the Landlord and Tenant Board, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, or the Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal.
