The Electrical Techniques program provides pathways into a variety of occupations or training in the electrical industry. Develop basic competencies in electricity, network cabling and electrical system installation.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
The electrical field is growing in response to increased construction work in Ontario and other provinces. The 2-semester (30 week) Electrical Techniques program will provide you with the introductory and fundamental skills and knowledge to assist with the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment in residential, commercial and construction settings.

• The program provides several pathways into a variety of occupations and other college training programs in the electrical industry, including electronics, electrical mechanical and electrical apprenticeship.
• You will develop basic competencies in electricity, network cabling and electrical system installation.
• Related instruction in mathematics, prints and installations, safety and trade calculations is included to meet employers' qualifications.

Students in the Electrical Techniques Certificate program take the same courses as the first two semesters of the Electrical Engineering Technician diploma program. As a result, graduates of the Electrical Techniques program can enter into third semester of Electrical Engineering Technician (subject to enrolment capacity).

The content of this program aligns with the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide, 6th ed.) as defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI®), a worldwide industry organization association that maintains standards and credentials and certifies project management professionals in 185 countries.

Fleming College is approved as a Registered Education Provider (REP) by the PMI. This designation ensures that the College has met PMI's rigorous quality criteria for course content, instructor qualification, and instructional design. Program courses are designed to guide students in the development of technical project management, leadership, organizational, interpersonal, meeting and presentation skills. Students will be introduced to traditional project management techniques as well as those from Agile Project Management and Lean Six Sigma standards.

Successful completion of this program will prepare students to pursue project coordination, leadership and management roles with organizations in a wide variety of sectors including business, technology, health care, engineering, government and not for profit. During the five semesters in the Practical Nursing program, you will learn the concepts and skills related to health and nursing. You will also learn nursing practices and interventions in specific health situations. In addition, you will have the opportunity to study courses such as anatomy and physiology, communication, introductory psychology and human growth and development. After successfully completing Fleming's five-semester diploma program, graduates are eligible to write the national examinations with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and become registered to practice in Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse. Graduates wishing to be registered with the CNO will be asked to sign a declaration of their status regarding:

• Citizenship
• Any conviction of a criminal offense under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
• Professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity in Ontario
• Any mental or physical disorder which makes it desirable in the public interest that the person not practice nursing

The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician program will introduce you to the field of heating, refrigeration and air conditioning with an emphasis on renewable, sustainable and alternative energy efficient solutions.

Protecting the environment, reducing climate changes and increasing sustainable practices have contributed to the need for energy-efficient practices in the heating, refrigeration and air conditioning industry.
Our compressed three-semester program will prepare you for employment in this field:

• Our program has been specifically designed to address the changing employment and environmental needs of the industry.
• Our program provides you with theoretical and practical skills to install, service, maintain and update heating, refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

The program is divided into three terms.

• After successful completion of the provincial practical requirements at the end of term one, students can apply to write for Oil Burner Technician –Level 3 (OBT-3) and Gas Technician-Level 3 (G-3) certificates of qualification.
• After successful completion of the provincial practical requirements at the end of term three, students can apply to write for Oil Burner Technician –Level 2 (OBT-2) and Gas Technician-Level 2 (G-2) certificates of qualification.

Students are required to attend 80% of all classes in order to write their TSSA Gas and Oil exams.

Gas and Oil Technician –Level 3 (OBT-3 and G-3) deals with workplace safety, tools, characteristics of natural gas and oil, codes/regulations, basic electricity, technical specifications, customer relations, basic piping systems, and an introduction to gas and oil appliances.

Gas and Oil Technician –Level 2 (OBT-2 and G-2) focuses on advanced piping/tubing systems, electricity, controls, systems, appliances, gas meters, pressure regulators, gas and oil -fired refrigerators, conversion burners, water heaters, forced warm air heating systems, hydronic heating systems, space heating, venting practices, forced air add-on devices, and air handling.

Graduates of this program will have an opportunity to obtain industry related health and safety certifications. You will also have Grade 12 Math equivalency.

Work Experience
Your four-month placement offers you an intensive, challenging opportunity to put your skills into practice. You choose the location and setting, your instructors will encourage you as you find and negotiate your placement. You can do your placement locally, provincially, across Canada or in an international setting.

You'll work with community-based agencies (of your choice) on real -- not simulated -- recreation/leisure projects. This will be valuable learning for later, when you're looking for a job. Your placement could be working with youth at risk, with seniors, in outdoor education programs, fitness organizations/centres, children's programs, schools, resorts or municipal settings. There are few limitations as to where you can do your placement. For example, Fleming has a unique partnership with the Resort, Recreation and Tourism Management Student Internship Program in the United States that students can take advantage of. You can work as an activity coordinator at a resort or prepare for a career on a cruise ship.

For your placement, field agencies may require you to submit a current police records check, which is available from your local police department upon payment of a fee. In addition, you may also be required to provide a current Standard First Aid Certificate, and a current Basic CPR Certificate (level C).

The one-year International Business Management program builds on the education and experience of students in business and commerce. It combines traditional classroom instruction with a variety of experiential learning techniques that help graduates prepare for success in the workplace.

WORK EXPERIENCE
You will practice your skills, improve your techniques, and learn how to offer excellent customer service in our on-campus spa. With one state-of-the-art work station for every two students on average, you can be sure that you will have the opportunity to really gain in confidence as you practice current methods and techniques in use in the field. You will work directly with clients for approximately 28 weeks total throughout the program.

This new program is the only one of its kind in Ontario. Our unique three-semester Emergency Management and Business Continuity program is ideally suited for working professionals and those who are interested in pursuing a new career in this dynamic and growing field. The program’s flexible delivery model, online and on-campus delivery, means you can continue to work while pursuing advanced training. You’ll attend in-class intensive weekend sessions three times each semester, while the balance of course work is completed online. Emergency Management and Business Continuity professionals are trained to prepare for loss of critical business functions. Develop your knowledge and skills in writing and research, mathematics, human anatomy, biology, and organic/inorganic chemistry to be well-prepared for the rigors of your next academic program. The program will provide you with extensive hands-on, laboratory-based learning experience in preparation for post-secondary level science programs. You will also have the opportunity to learn about potential careers in the health sciences and to identify other programs focusing on the biological or chemical sciences that will enable you to achieve your career objectives. This is a two-semester certificate-level program leading to an Ontario College Certificate.

This program will provide you with a variety of trade-specific skills, introducing you to installing, maintaining and repairing piping systems in residential, commercial and industrial settings, to enhance opportunities for employment.

In the two-semester Mechanical Techniques - Plumbing program, you will learn to:

• Identify and install common plumbing fixtures in our multi-story KUBE structure
• Assemble various piping systems related to plumbing
• Interpret and create drawings, estimates and material lists
