The Child and Youth Care program prepares individuals to provide care and treatment for children or adolescents experiencing a range of social, emotional, behavioral, or learning challenges.

Program Highlights
Child and Youth Counsellors (CYCs) are involved in all facets of care from intake, to assessment, to program planning, to goal formulation, and intervention. Practitioners provide assistance through a variety of treatment strategies and work as an integral part of a treatment team. Child Youth Counsellors team up with teachers, social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists as well as other social services providers to deliver a holistic approach to caregiving.

• This program ensures that you will acquire the necessary skills for employment as a Child and Youth Care ?Practitioner and it is fully ?acredited by ?the Child and Youth Care Educational Accreditation Board of Canada (CYCEAB).

In this three-year program, the final sixth semester is an applied project or field placement in partnership with business and, industry, or government department.

WORK EXPERIENCE
In your final semester, you will work on an intensive team project or field placement. Each student will contribute specialized knowledge, learned in their program of study, to the solution of a real world technological problem posed by a sponsoring business or organization. Recent projects include:

• Field placements in Security Operations Centres (SOCs) as security analysts, conducting analysis and protection against cyber threats in real time
• Field placements within financial and forensic firms, working real cases
• Field placements within corporate security departments and information security service providers
• Field Placements within cyber security units of various government agencies
• Security and penetration testing engagements with industry organizations
• Forensic analysis and creation of standards for a security corporation
• Development and field deployment of a computer network Intrusion Detection System for a managed security service company to support large commercial clients

This applied project or field placement will enhance problem-solving skills, applied industry knowledge, and the ability to work as part of a team. You'll also learn critical workplace skills such as time management, how to map a critical path, and presentation skills. Since you may be working on sophisticated developmental or research-based work, sponsors will often use the project as a testing ground and recruitment opportunity.

The Carpentry and Renovation Technician program is primarily designed to prepare you for a career in the renovation and construction field.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Gain a solid understanding of the various technical elements of home renovation along with the business skills necessary to succeed in the industry. Topics include:

• Restorative practices, residential carpentry practices
• Plans and specification, project management
• Mechanical trades used for renovations, health and safety

The aim of the Carpentry and Renovation Technician program is to prepare entry-level carpenters, including construction labourers who can function in a wide array of construction projects using sustainable practices. The emphasis is on hands-on experience, including a service learning experience in the community assisting a not-for-profit organization.

This program has been designed to include four semesters with progressive opportunities to earn carpentry apprenticeship levels:

• After successfully completing semester two you will have earned the Carpentry Techniques Ontario College Certificate and have an opportunity to challenge level one for General Carpentry apprenticeship
• By completing two more semesters, you can earn an Ontario College Diploma in Carpentry and Renovation Technician, and can challenge level two for General Carpentry apprenticeship

Our program has a fall and winter start date. Each intake runs for three consecutive semesters, which means you can complete the full program in just one year. During the spring and fall, students complete extensive hands-on training designed around real-world firefighting experiences and scenarios. Additional classroom theory, college course material and medical upgrading to the EMR Standard, occurs during the winter months. Students graduate fully- prepared to enter the fire service industry.

Fleming’s program provides you with over 60 days of hands-on practical training, which is delivered at the Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy (EOETA). The Academy is a well–established, fully equipped fire and emergency services training facility.

Course content is based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and includes the following topics: fire behavior, suppression, ventilation, incident management systems, command and control, hazardous materials, forcible entry, firefighter survival, auto extrication, confined space awareness, technical rescue, fire attack scenarios, fitness and wellness, fire prevention principles, public education and medical training that includes the Red Cross Emergency Medical Response (EMR) and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS). To further assist students, we offer fire industry-specific interviewing techniques and career planning strategies to prepare them for the application and interview process within the fire services.

The Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy (EOETA), our primary training facility, is located 40km east of Peterborough in the village of Norwood. EOETA has several established training environments including a burn tower, roof props, door props, search and rescue maze, confined space prop and a new high intensity propane training props. Students are fully-trained in all aspects of firefighting in a real-world environment, live-fire environment, allowing for a proper evaluation of each student, while completing the NFPA hands-on skills practice and evaluations.

This pathway program is designed to prepare you for admission to college programs in health sciences, biological or chemical sciences, while you learn about possible careers in these fields. The program provides the knowledge and skills in communication, mathematics, human anatomy, biology and chemistry needed to be successful in related college programs. Upon successful completion of this two-semester program, you will be eligible for admission to college programs such as:

• Practical Nursing
• Pharmacy Technician
• Health Information Management
• Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant

Fleming College has reserved space in the above-noted programs for qualified graduates of this program. For consideration in this category, graduates must have achieved an average of 70% or higher over the duration of the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway program. If there are more applications from graduates with 70% or higher than reserved seats available, a selection process based on an average of overall marks will take place.

Throughout the Pre-Health Sciences program, you will learn in a supportive environment and gain hands-on experience in our chemistry and biology labs. In addition, you can earn from two to four credits towards your subsequent college diploma, depending upon your program choice.

Program Highlights
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a two-semester Ontario College Graduate Certificate where students learn how to design and create software by embedding AI into applications that meet industry needs. Modern software design and AI frameworks, machine learning, and big data fundamentals are the basis of this program.

This program will be delivered in a hybrid format with online lectures and face-to-face computer labs where students will apply their knowledge and skills to applied projects. The program also includes applied research and applied learning experiences throughout the curriculum culminating in a second semester capstone project course.

Students will learn to obtain and analyze data sets in deep learning and machine learning applications, work collaboratively using principles of project management, and design and create software to fulfill industry project requirements. All work completed in the program will be in accordance with relevant legal statutes and ethical codes. In addition to gaining technical knowledge, students will expand their skills in project and time management, collaboration, independent initiative, and communication.

Experiential Learning
The program features a workplace applied project in the second semester. This allows you to interact with industry partners, building your collaboration and communication skills at the same time as gaining real-world experience and knowledge in your area of study.
