This program will prepare the student to fill the role of technical support in the dynamic and expanding field of client/server comput­ing, cloud computing, O/S virtualization, enterprise networks, administration and Internet management. Students complete a work placement component which provides on-the-job training with a local company in their final semester.

Our courses are constantly evolving to incorporate a blend of leading edge and traditional technologies to meet the needs of local employers. This program is well suited to people who are interested in computers, but not math, physics or electronics. Many of the courses in the CN&TS program train the students towards obtaining Microsoft, A+, LPIC-1, and Network + certifications.

Learning takes place in both classrooms and computer labs. Faculty bring a wealth of real-world experiences to the classroom. A num­ber of courses in the curriculum are delivered in dedicated a lab using exclusively assigned computers, virtual servers and diverse equipment.

A student graduating from the Office Administration - General program will graduate with a one-year certificate, opening the door to a variety of entry-level employment opportunities in both private and public work sectors.

Students will gain knowledge in the following areas:

• Technical skills
  • Introductory level Office 365/2019 cloud-based computer application skills including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc.
  • Outlook 365 - students become proficient in producing professional email communications, creating folders to stay organized, use of Outlook calendar to book appointments and schedule meetings.
  • Students will be required to achieve a keyboarding speed of 40-50 GWPM.
  • Students learn to share and edit documents in a cloud-based environment. Using MS Teams, collaboration software students learn how to book, attend and chair virtual meetings.
• Soft skills
  • Customer relationships are built on the use of effective and consistent communication as well as the ability to uphold and maintain confidentiality. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively are skills that are highly valued.
  • Employers seek office administrators that are highly organized, forward-thinking and have the ability to problem-solve.

• The Office Administration - General Program prepares graduates for current and future office trends. Experienced faculty prepare students to work in dynamic business environments. Students become extremely computer literate through instructional scaffolding. Faculty provide a supportive and professional environment that allows students to build on their current level of knowledge, which leads to mastery of the skills required in a business office.
• Students graduate from the program appreciating the value of being an office administrator and become advocates of the profession during their career.

The Music and Digital Media (MDM) Program is the only program of its kind in Canada. This challenging program builds foundational skills related to music performance, multimedia, film and audio recording. MDM prepares students for careers in music and media industries, and further education, if they wish.

The program focuses on the connection between diverse artistic disciplines and creative integration of art forms. Studies in music are combined with digital media courses in video production and audio recording. Throughout the program, students study their primary instrument (or voice) in 10 private applied lessons per semester. In second year, students gain experience in composition, entrepreneurial skills, and integrated arts project work including performance, sound design and installation art.

The General Arts & Science Diploma provides a broad liberal arts curriculum designed with the advice of our community partners, to prepare students for the workforce, other college programs, or transfer to university. Paired with hands-on instruction, and exciting new experiential learning opportunities, General Arts and Science Diploma graduates leave us prepared for their next steps out into the world.

Core courses provide a solid foundation in communications, critical thinking skills, digital literacy, numeracy, inclusivity, science, and general education. Complementing these are varied electives such as Film, Addictions, Fitness, Psychology, and dozens more. Our students scaffold their studies by earning at least three Advanced Level Learning credits, in both applied and social sciences, math, and/or communications before graduating.

In the third and fourth semesters, GAS Diploma students will learn to research various local issues, and apply the skills and knowledge gained in the program to offer creative solutions to one specific problem in a community.

• Students who self-identify as Pre-University work with the Program Coordinator to further customize their diploma course selection in preparation for university study. Key academic areas (Communications, Applied Science, Social Science, Math) are emphasized in accordance with the student's goals. Potential transfer opportunities exist at a number of Canadian universities; exploring these possibilities is at the discretion of the student. Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technicians are important members of the health care team. Interacting directly with patients, they perform ECG’s and collect blood samples for laboratory analysis.

Inside the laboratory they assist other professionals by sorting and preparing samples for testing, operating laboratory equipment, performing basic laboratory testing under supervision, and managing data in computers.

This program includes two semesters of learning in our classrooms and laboratories followed by a final 4 weeks of field placement occurring inside the laboratories of partner hospitals and private institutions. The College arranges this and students are expected to finance clinical placement costs (tuition, travel, room and board).

This program prepares graduates to work in the growing and dynamic field of business analytics. Students will learn the techniques and tools of analytical decision making and utilize these skills to drive the competitiveness of an organization. Students will be exposed to generic analytics modeling as well as courses in the areas or marketing, operations, and business strategy. Students will also be introduced to machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts, and, how to use supervised and unsupervised learning techniques to solve real-world problems. Through applied learning techniques such as problem-based learning and work placement students will be able to apply their learning to real-world problems.

Business Analytics experts are currently in high demand, especially with the opportunity to leverage high volume and variety of data, available in today’s digital world, to support business strategy, enhance customer experience, and, solve real-life problems in real-time.

The General Arts & Science (Certificate) program offers a foundational year for students preparing for the workforce or for future study. Students in the General Studies stream meet with the program coordinator to customize their program according to their needs and interests. Core courses include communication, computers, applied or social science, personal development, and general education. Complementing these are varied electives such as Film, Addictions, and Fitness. Students can also focus on essential competencies in communications, science and math.

This two-year Ontario College Diploma pro­gram prepares students to work as practical front-line service providers in a variety of social service settings.

The SSW program gives students the opportunity to learn about and to work with many different people including individuals with mental health and addiction problems, seniors who require extra support, children with behaviour problems, women who have been abused, people who live in poverty and / or who are homeless and adolescents who live in group homes.

Our program includes:

• Two field placement opportunities
• Professors with experience in the field
• Relevant courses emphasizing active learn­ing, skill-based learning, hands-on activi­ties, practical assignments
• Eligibility to join the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and to use the title, Registered Social Service Worker.

If you are, then this is a program that allows you to explore diverse opportunities in an industry that is a vital part of the economy and the community.

This is a unique program that is unlike traditional food and culinary programs. Taught by a multidisciplinary faculty team, it affords the learner the opportunity to gain a fundamental understanding of all segments of the supply chain from farm to table. Graduates of this program will have opportunities that span the entire food industry from food services businesses to multinational food conglomerates.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
This program offers courses that include hands-on training to permit learners to understand and experience food preparation and can relate to the importance of sanitation, and quality assurance. The program also offers the opportunities to experience research and innovation related to processes for new food products. Case studies are an integral part of the program that will look at unique safety regulations associated with genetic modification or bio-engineering of food.

Learners will use their gained knowledge in food chemistry, food safety and security, the effects of food on population health to plan portion-controlled menus. In order to achieve this the learner applies the principles and regulations associated with food procurement, preparation maintain safety and quality standards.

Few colleges in Ontario offer an Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology program and the workforce with these skills is shrinking due to retirements. As a result demand for these skills is high and continues to grow stronger every year.

Program Highlights

Hands On: The program is practical and hands-on. Core subject areas have approximately a 2:1 ratio of lab hours to theory hours. Students will be working with the equipment found in the industry. The program provides students with a sound knowledge of process measurement and control theory. They will be trained to work in the modern team-oriented organization with emphasis on productive interaction with peers.

Flexibility: The program accommodates high school graduates, mature students making a career change and post-graduate students wishing to acquire practical skills. Students enrolled in the two-year technician program may, upon graduation, transfer directly into the more rigorous and theoretical third year and earn a technology diploma.

Job satisfaction: Control systems are the brains behind the devices that produce everyday goods and keep our environment and utilities safe. Jobs are found in municipal waste and water utilities, building environment controls as well as assembly and manufacturing. In control systems, different tasks and problem solving are performed daily. Our graduates have told us; “You never do the same thing twice”. The control systems field is continuously evolving.

Technologists will often work with equipment in a complete system, ensuring that the individual devices work as a unit. Technologists have a greater theoretical understanding of control systems, communications, programming and technical project planning, allowing them to become involved in engineering design, as well as device and system specification.

Co-operative Education Opportunities: Both the technician and technologist programs now offer co-operative education opportunities – depending on availability of positions. These paid work­place educational opportunities will expand as we cultivate more co-op positions with other firms.

Co-op opportunities occur during a four month summer term after the second and fourth semesters and/or a full year term between the fifth and sixth semesters. The number of co-op positions available each year is not predefined. Students are able to apply for positions posted by various indus­trial firms and government agencies through­out the year. These opportunities give our students valuable on-the-job experience, financial help with their educational costs and enhanced employment possibilities.
