A two-year, 72-credit-hour program of studies, the Diploma in Indigenous Communication Arts (INCA) is offered through the First Nations University of Canada’s Department of Indigenous Communication and Fine Arts. .

Indigenous Communication Arts (INCA) provides academic training and professional experience that supports the entry of Indigenous people into all areas of the communications industry, including Indigenous and mainstream media and public relations. INCA graduates are also eligible to apply to the University of Regina School of Journalism.

INCA prepares students by requiring that they complete courses including Indigenous history and politics, oral traditions, community-based research, business management, traditional and contemporary communication systems, languages, and art. INCA students master basic skills needed for reporting for print and broadcast media and the web and can also study strategic communication planning for public relations.

To qualify for admission to INCA, students must be eligible for admission to the First Nations University of Canada/University of Regina. Proficiency in English must be well above average, and it is strongly recommended that applicants have basic computer skills. Upon being accepted by First Nations University of Canada/University of Regina, students must contact the Faculty or the Department of Indigenous Communication and Fine Arts  which will provide academic and professional advising.

The purpose of this MA program is to give graduate students in English the opportunity to complete an MA that has a creative writing emphasis and requires the submission of an extended creative work. At the same time, it will be a degree that requires a substantial amount of work within the field of English, which we also see a valuable part of the education of creative writers. It is hoped that the degree will be the foundation for careers in creative writing and editing. It is aimed at students who have aspirations in this field but have not had the rather more extensive professional experience involved with gaining admission to an M.F.A. degree.

This 30 credit hour program is designed for advanced studies in music theory. The first 15 credit hours are devoted to honing students’ critical writing and thinking skills, through courses in bibliography and research techniques specific to music, specialized music theory seminars, and directed reading courses in the area of the student’s research interests. All students also take graduate courses in critical theory in the fine arts. The remainder of the program is devoted to writing a thesis on an original topic chosen by students in consultation with their supervisor. Current areas of faculty expertise are broad and include tonal and post-tonal analysis, music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, opera of the 18th and 19th centuries, music in Canada, the Lied, contemporary classical music, and interdisciplinary topics such as soundscapes and sound art.

The professional Master's option in Journalism is a 30 credit program to be completed over three semesters. It is not an academic track degree; rather it is designed to develop students' capacity for advanced journalistic investigation. Candidates will take a suite of core courses in the theory, history and methods of journalism as well as two advanced specialization options (in print, magazine, broadcast, documentary, international media, alternative media or photojournalism). An outside elective will draw on the resources of other departments and programs and will be related to students' professional capstone projects. In lieu of a thesis, their professional Master’s project will be completed under the supervision of an assigned faculty member. Long-form journalism proposals may include a film or radio documentary; a creative non-fiction or investigative series for magazine, newspaper or online publication; a publisher-ready book proposal and first chapter; a photo-journalism exhibit; or a community-based media project. Students will follow a rigorous and methodical process of research planning and investigation to produce journalism of publication / broadcast quality. Proposals must meaningfully advance the public interest.  Students will also participate in a Master's workshop, as they move from the conceptualization and investigation phases to the project production phase. The MEd in Curriculum and Instruction degree is designed for licensed teachers seeking to become learning specialists in a selected area of the field of education, to advance within their career and to meet professional development renewal requirements. This option is made available to those students who, as teacher-librarians, have a specific interest in this area of education. Our growing capacity to network with other institutions via technology makes it possible to include graduate level courses for teacher-librarians.

This is a 30 credit hour (10 courses) diploma offered by Faculty of Media, Art, & Performance. It will enable students with no previous film training to gain a diploma in film production within one year.

Students will take courses in narrative modes of film production, technical aspects and media theory. The admission requirements are the same as those for the Faculty of MAP, but students must also have either a Bachelor's degree in a field other than Film Production, or 90 credit hours in any other discipline.

This course will begin to map the terrain that is Pop Culture. The changing ground of pop culture has been mapped by different theoretical and methodological approaches in ways that are not historically fixed. This course provides an introduction to the theories, practices and evolving legacy of pop culture.

Computing affects virtually everything. All industries, organizations, and activities are facilitated and enhanced by computing. Many big decisions in the world today are already being made by computers, from what appears on your social media feed, to what stocks get bought and sold, to self-driving cars and speech recognition phones. If you understand computing, you will be able to elevate your career to a higher level.

In our computer science programs, you will learn how to program computers for simple and complex tasks on the web, on mobile, in virtual reality, and in the cloud. You will learn how computers and computer systems work, from the basics of logic to the complexities of big data analytics. You will also learn about security and integrity of networked systems, and how algorithms are assisting (and in some cases, replacing) today’s decision makers.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Math (combined major)
In this program, you will build strong mathematical skills in addition to your computer science knowledge. This is advantageous in academic, research, and industry research and development fields.

Actuarial Science is the application of mathematics, statistics, and risk theories to the design of insurance and pension programs.

Actuaries' areas of expertise are extensive and involve a wide range of business aspects such as operations research, finances, economics, investment analysis, analysis of medical risk, accounting, legal and regulatory aspects of insurance and pensions, among others. In other words, actuaries apply mathematical skills to the business environment, and they are experts in risk management. The actuarial profession offers continuous challenges and it requires a strong mathematical ability along with proficiency in various business skills. It is also a rewarding career with excellent opportunities for intellectual development and financial gain. The Actuarial Science Program provides students with a strong facility in actuarial methodology and applications. There is 12 month internship program that is also available to students.

Graduates from the Actuarial Science Program have close to 100% hiring success in the Actuarial Industry. The BSc in Actuarial Science is the only program of its kind in Saskatchewan, and it is one of only 11 programs nationally that are accredited by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
