One of philosophy's objectives is to break us of the habit of accepting things without question.  Philosophy endeavours to make us aware of the basic assumptions that shape our lives, and to subject them to careful scrutiny.  It is those objectives that produce graduates who are strong in areas of reasoning and problem solving, resulting in virtually limitless employment possibilities.

Students can complete the pre-nutrition requirements for the Nutrition program at the University of Saskatchewan at the University of Regina. Students are eligible to apply to the Nutrition program after completion of 30 credits hours of specific course requirements. Pre-nutrition courses completed at the University of Regina can be used toward a variety of programs at the University of Regina.

Process Systems Engineering (PSEng) is a broad category of engineering that deals with the process design for the purpose of converting raw goods to usable end products, including energy. Process engineering looks at the entire process from Point A, which is a raw material, to Point Z, which is the desired end product. It does not necessarily deal with acquiring the raw base material, although knowledge of its acquisition is part of the U of R’s systems approach to teaching and research.

The Department of Geology offers graduate work leading to the MSc degree. Areas of specialization include quaternary and soil studies; geochemical, igneous, metamorphic, and structural studies of the Canadian Shield; Phanerozoic carbonate, clastic, and evaporite studies; and coal, petroleum, mineralization, geothermometry and fluid inclusion studies, isotope, and uranium, studies. Resources are available for particular western regional projects. Close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Industry and Resources gives excellent opportunity for field work in the Shield and for access to sedimentary cores and data relating to the Phanerozoic rocks of Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Geological Society provides a pool of highly qualified personnel from which the department draws strength. On campus, staff and students of the department work in co-operation with the Energy Research Unit.
 

The combined degree in Statistics and Economics is designed for students with an interest in both fields. This program provides a broad understanding of the fundamental concepts involved in both subjects.

The MA in Justice Studies offers grounding in theoretical issues and methodological approaches to various aspects of justice, including legal, criminal, restorative, and social justice. This is an interdisciplinary degree that draws on a range of university resources to individualize students’ programs and to explore justice from a range of perspectives.

Research opportunities are available in the following areas:

• The social contexts of crime
• Critical analysis of judicial processes, correctional and restorative justice programs, and victims' services
• Social justice issues and movements related to economic equality, political participation, gender equality, ethno-cultural identity, and other aspects of inequality and injustice
• International justice, human rights, and social development, including alternative models of globalization and the role of international organizations.

The goal of the First Nations University of Canada's Department of Indian Languages, Literatures and Linguistics is to strengthen the First Nations' identity by ensuring the survival of Saskatchewan First Nations' languages. We encourage students to be proud of and to use, First Nations' languages.
The department offers classes in Cree, Saulteaux, Nakota, Dakota and Dene. It also offers a linguistics program.

Geography and environmental studies differ from other subjects due to their emphasis on space, place, and how humans connect and interact with their environment. Major global challenges of our time, such as climate change, depletion of natural resources, water availability, migration, war and conflict are better understood and addressed by those who have an in-depth knowledge of geography and environmental studies. The subject is diverse and is based on both natural science and social studies.

What is Geography and Environmental Studies?
Geography and Environmental Studies encompasses three areas:

• Human geography
• Physical geography
• Environmental studies

Human geography analyses the way humans use and understand the world and addresses the spatial differentiation and organization of human activity and its interrelationships with the physical environment.

Physical geography—a component of Earth sciences—is the study of the natural processes that occur at and above the surface of the Earth.

Geography is one of mankind’s earliest scientific disciplines and studies the environment – everything that surrounds us, including human beings.

Environmental Studies encompasses the study of the planet and its intricate variety of living and non-living elements and processes, how human beings connect with the physical structures, institutions and economies we build, and the politics, language and culture by which we communicate.

Art History majors will learn to understand art historically and across cultures, as well as the different methods and techniques of various art media.  Art History gives students the tools to conduct research and to interpret and evaluate works of art.

The Religious Studies program offers students the opportunity to examine critically the realm of religion in its varied manifestations. It includes several religious traditions, thematic, and methodological studies. Religious Studies offers an M.A. program consisting of a minimum of 15 credit hours of courses at the 800 level and 15 credit hours of thesis research. Students are encouraged to focus their thesis work on comparative topics in religion.
