Overview

Business Fundamentals - Entrepreneurship is a one-year Ontario College Certificate program.  This customized program is designed specifically for the novice entrepreneur and will provide graduates with the knowledge required to plan, start and manage their own small business.  Through the program curriculum, students explore alternatives for starting a business, such as franchising and taking over the family firm, as well as financing options.  The Business Fundamentals -Entrepreneurship program gives students insight into the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship and assist students in acquiring the skills for long-term management of the business and their development as entrepreneurs.  Under the supervision of a faculty advisor, students prepare a comprehensive business plan intended to help students launch their own business upon graduation.

A variety of skills in areas such as drafting, computer-aided design, three dimensional modeling, design illustration and visualization are combined with the knowledge of design theory, plant and hard materials, landscape construction and new technologies to provide students with the skills necessary to source employment in the expanding field of landscape design.

This program emphasizes the dynamic role of the Doula within communities to prepare graduates for a rewarding career collaborating with health care teams to honour and advocate for expectant families throughout the full spectrum of their reproductive journey. The curriculum captures the specialized evidence-informed knowledge, skills, and experience relating to anatomy, physiology, and the emotional, physical, and cultural aspects of pregnancy and birth required by Doulas to provide families with information and support during pregnancy, childbirth, newborn care, and including loss. In addition, students are introduced to business management/entrepreneurship concepts and strategies, including business ethics, contracts, marketing and sales techniques, and personal financial management.

Certificate in Community Pharmacy Assistant

A Community Pharmacy Assistant is one of the vital members of a pharmacy. Their attention to detail, knack for problem solving, technical and interpersonal skills contribute to the success and operational effectiveness of a pharmacy. Fanshawe's one-year Community Pharmacy Assistant program is designed to prepare graduates to achieve professional success in community pharmacies under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician.

The program blends theory with experiential learning. Students will learn concepts and problem solving strategies in the classroom that are later reinforced during lab components in Fanshawe's state-of-the-art pharmacy lab and a community placement. Students also gain the skills to collaborate with other pharmacy health care professionals to ensure accurate patient record maintenance, process prescriptions, manage inventory, compound non-sterile products and assist customers with products sold in a community pharmacy.

If students wish to continue their education in the field of pharmacy studies, successful completion of this program will allow students to obtain advanced standing in Fanshawe's Pharmacy Technician program.

Business - Marketing (Co-op) is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program with a co-operative education component. This program provides students with a strong foundation to gain entry to a variety of marketing career paths. Courses cover topics such as customer analysis, segmentation, and targeting; integrated marketing communications; pricing and distribution strategies; and product and service development and management. Hands-on activities include market research studies, advertising campaigns, sales and business plans - many of these activities involving live clients from industry. Students learn to use current software programs, including presentation, spreadsheet, graphic design and publishing applications. Graduates receive full credit toward a credential with the Canadian Institute of Marketing and earn credits towards the Certified Sales Professional designation offered by the Canadian Professional Sales Association. Graduates who meet admission requirements are eligible for transfer to the Business Administration - Marketing Advanced Diploma program.

Other Information

  • The Business - Marketing (Co-op) program shares a common first level with all business diploma programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business which allows for program transfer, with no loss of credit, after Level 1.
  • Graduates of the two-year Business - Marketing (Co-op) Ontario College Diploma program may apply for program transfer to the Business Administration - Marketing Ontario College Advanced Diploma program or the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Digital Marketing) Degree program. Application for Program Transfer" forms are available from the Office of the Registrar, Room E1012.  
  • All program levels are offered in the fall and winter terms to allow students to make continuous progression to meet personal or co-op education needs. Levels 1, 2 and 3 run in the summer term.
  • Students entering Level 1 of the program in January are expected to proceed into Level 2 of the program in the summer term. Students entering Level 1 of the program in February or May will proceed to Level 2 of the program in September.
  • Graduates may be eligible for admission to the following Graduate Certificate programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business: Agri-Business Management, Human Resources Management, International Business Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management, Professional Financial Services, or Project Management. Graduate Certificate programs deliver a specialized professional curriculum in two four-month levels.

Human Resources Management is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two four-month levels (laptop required).  Designed for university or college graduates, this program provides graduates with functional knowledge in core areas of human resources: recruitment and selection, training and development, human resources planning, occupational health and safety, organizational behaviour, finance and accounting, human resources management, compensation and benefits and labour relations.  Students have the opportunity to complete all nine Certified Human Resources Professional/Leader (CHRP/ CHRL) credits.  (Refer to the Human Resources Professionals Association website for more information: www.hrpa.ca.) The Motive Power Technician (Diesel) Diploma program is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program.  The program is designed to develop graduates with essential advanced technical, organizational, interpersonal, administrative and managerial skills required for the heavy duty service industry as well as providing progressive and comprehensive learning experiences on internal combustion compression ignition engines, power trains and related modern heavy duty systems. Students will learn to communicate effectively, diagnose and solve problems logically and to undertake responsible work tasks with a minimum of supervision.

Graduates may also be in a favourable status if they wish to apply for our alternative Motive Power Technician (Automotive) Diploma program. Credit for those courses that bridge our diploma programs will be granted; therefore, significantly reducing the requirements for this second Ontario College Diploma.

The Broadcasting - Radio program is a highly concentrated hands-on approach to training students for careers in radio broadcasting and emerging broadcast media.  Students operate four broadcast properties in Fanshawe College's School of Contemporary Media building, which is equipped with the latest in broadcast technology.  CIXX-FM (106.9) is Canada's first licensed instructional radio station at full power FM utilizing the latest digital control rooms and production equipment. Areas of study include: On-Air Performance, Creative Writing, Audio and Commercial Production, Sales/Marketing/Promotions, Music and Programming and Web and Social Media content development.  Listen live to students perform on 106.9 CIXX-FM, The X at www.1069thex.com, The Falcon at www.thefalcon.ca, CFRL Radio at www.cfrlradio.ca, and Stellar Radio, live video and audio at livestream.com/stellar_radio.  Broadcasting - Radio students learn in a live on-air environment while performing on-air and various job functions identical to those in the Broadcast industry
