Overview

The Motive Power Technician (Automotive) Diploma program is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. The program is designed to develop graduates with essential advanced technical, organizational, interpersonal, administrative and managerial skills required for the automotive service industry as well as providing progressive and comprehensive learning experiences on internal combustion spark ignition engines, power trains and related modern vehicle systems. Students will learn to communicate effectively, diagnose and solve problems logically and to undertake responsible work tasks with a minimum of supervision.

Graduates may also be in a favourable status if they wish to apply for our alternative Motive Power Technician (Diesel) Diploma program. Credit for those courses that bridge our diploma programs will be granted; therefore, significantly reducing the requirements for this second Ontario College Diploma.

Learning Outcomes
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to

  • Analyse, diagnose, and solve various motive power system problems by using problem-solving and critical thinking skills and strategies and by applyingfundamental knowledge of motor vehicle operation, components, and their interrelationships.
  • Diagnose and repair climate control systems in compliance with manufacturers' recommendations.
  • Diagnose and repair engine systems in compliance with manufacturers' recommendations.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, electronic, personal safety, and emission components and systems in compliance with manufacturers' recommendations.

The Construction Engineering Technology program will develop the technical knowledge and skills required to oversee and manage the construction of residential, industrial, commercial and institutional projects - from the conceptual planning phase through to project completion and contract closeout.

Diploma in Special Events Planning

Are you interested in an exciting career in Event Planning? Planning a big or small event requires extensive planning from choosing the venue, reviewing contracts, to the finer details of guest lists, decor, marketing and sponsorship.

Special Events Planning is a two-year diploma program designed for individuals interested in a career in event management. Designed by industry professionals, students will be exposed to the vast types of special events, from social events, corporate meetings, festivals, conventions and large sporting events. Students will develop essential event management skills such as planning, assessment, communication, critical thinking.

This program will explore current trends and technologies in the event industry, including; software applications, food and beverage, PR and sponsorship logistics, risk management,  business tools and more. Students will gain hands-on experience in planning, marketing and executing events.

Students will be provided opportunity to explore their area of interest including: corporate events, social events and sporting events. Students will also have the opportunity to explore and tour national and/or international event destinations.

Fanshawe College is geographically positioned to expose students to the extensive global event management industry, as London is home to a state of the art Convention Centre, Budweiser Gardens, The Western Fair District, international hotel brands, and the host of many local and international sport events. Students will visit these venues, network with industry professionals and gain hands-on experience in the event planning industry.

Other Information

  • The Business - Marketing (Co-op) program shares a common first level with all business diploma programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business which allows for program transfer, with no loss of credit, after Level 1.
  • Graduates of the two-year Business - Marketing (Co-op) Ontario College Diploma program may apply for program transfer to the Business Administration - Marketing Ontario College Advanced Diploma program or the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Digital Marketing) Degree program. Application for Program Transfer" forms are available from the Office of the Registrar, Room E1012.  
  • All program levels are offered in the fall and winter terms to allow students to make continuous progression to meet personal or co-op education needs. Levels 1, 2 and 3 run in the summer term.
  • Students entering Level 1 of the program in January are expected to proceed into Level 2 of the program in the summer term. Students entering Level 1 of the program in February or May will proceed to Level 2 of the program in September.
  • Graduates may be eligible for admission to the following Graduate Certificate programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business: Agri-Business Management, Human Resources Management, International Business Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management, Professional Financial Services, or Project Management. Graduate Certificate programs deliver a specialized professional curriculum in two four-month levels.

Co-operative Education
In order to be eligible for co-op, students must maintain a 2.5 GPA and be academically complete at the commencement of their co-op work term.

Human Resources Management is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two four-month levels (laptop required).  Designed for university or college graduates, this program provides graduates with functional knowledge in core areas of human resources: recruitment and selection, training and development, human resources planning, occupational health and safety, organizational behaviour, finance and accounting, human resources management, compensation and benefits and labour relations.  Students have the opportunity to complete all nine Certified Human Resources Professional/Leader (CHRP/ CHRL) credits.  (Refer to the Human Resources Professionals Association website for more information: www.hrpa.ca.) International Business Management is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two four-month levels (laptop required). Students will develop the skills to effectively investigate, analyze, manage and direct most aspects of international trade. Students work with real businesses, helping small and medium exporters capitalize on global opportunities, as preparation for various careers in the ever-expanding global economy. Professors have relevant and practical expertise in international trade, investment, marketing, finance and business management. Graduates will receive an Ontario College Graduate Certificate in International Business Management and, upon meeting Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) criteria on two major projects sent for external grading and transfer of credits to FITT, a Diploma in International Trade from FITT will be issued. Graduates who complete the required work experience in international business and meet other FITT criteria can subsequently apply to receive the Certified International Trade Professional designation (CITP).

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to

  • Conduct an environmental scan to evaluate the impact of world issues on an organization's international business opportunities.
  • Conduct, evaluate and present market research to support an organization's international business decision-making.
  • Manage the preparation of documents and the application of procedures to support the movement of products and services in the organization's global supply chain.
  • Evaluate the impact of statutory and regulatory compliance on an organization's integrative trade initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to negotiate effectively within various cultural environments and to address the impact of cultural differences on an organization's integrative trade initiatives.
  • Develop and present an international marketing plan, and evaluate sales strategies that support an organization's integrative trade initiatives.
  • Identify and interpret relevant international financial documents, and evaluate financial strategies that support an organization's integrative trade initiatives.
  • Analyze the impact of an organization's integrative trade initiatives on its human resources management strategies, policies, and practices.
  • Develop and present an international business plan.
  • Manage the implementation and evaluation of team projects by applying project management principles
  • Recommend strategies to support principles of corporate sustainability, corporate social responsibility and ethics associated with an organization's integrative trade* initiatives and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Select and apply current technologies to support an organization's integrative trade* initiatives.
