Certificate in Design Foundations

The Design Foundations Certificate program is for students who are interested in exploring a career in design. This foundation year introduces students to the fundamentals of 2D and 3D design principles, drawing and colour theory, idea development, research, presentation skills, portfolio development, design technologies, and communication skills. Students experience a year of goal-setting, learning new skills and refining existing skills with the guidance from industry experts through a variety of hands-on projects.

Graduates can use their portfolio and refined skills to move towards a career or pursue further studies in Interior Decorating, Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Graphic Design, GIS and Urban Planning, Landscape Design, Horticulture Technician and Theatre Arts - Technical Production.

Diploma in Interior Decorating

Interior Decorating is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for a career in one of the many segments of the residential interior decorating field. Students will study the fundamentals of interior decorating, including space planning, colour theory, material selection, kitchen and bath design and visual merchandising. Students will build interpersonal, communication, sales, business and marketing skills. Drawing, presentation and drafting techniques (both manual and computer-aided) will be developed. Courses are delivered in lecture, studio and lab formats; the hands-on studio environment allows the student to work on 2D and 3D projects in close contact with their professor. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be equipped with the essential skills necessary to pursue employment and carry on their development as a professional in the decorating field.

Business - Supply Chain and Operations is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. The curriculum covers theory and application of supply chain management in private and public sector environments. Specifically, courses address material sourcing, transportation methods, inventory, retail management, negotiation skills and analytical techniques. Students also enhance their computer skills and their business communication skills. The program aligns to the curriculum of various professional associations in supply chain management. Graduates, equipped with the skills required to improve an organization's profitability and operations, are in high demand in both the private and public sector.

  • The Business - Supply Chain and Operations program shares a common first level with all business diploma programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business, which allows for program transfer, with no loss of credit, after Level 1.
  • Students entering Level 1 of the program in January are expected to proceed into Level 2 of the program in the summer term.  Students entering Level 1 of the program in February or May will proceed to Level 2 of the program in September.
  • Graduates may be eligible for admission to the following Graduate Certificate programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business: Agri-Business Management, Human Resources Management, International Business Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management, Professional Financial Services, or Project Management. Graduate Certificate programs deliver a specialized professional curriculum in two four-month levels.
  • This program is eligible for consideration of college to college transfer of credits under the Ontario Provincial ONCAT agreement.
  • Students who graduate from this program with a GPA of 3.0 or greater are eligible to receive Advanced Standing towards their Certified Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP) designation (4 modules and 2 workshops). 
  • Articulation agreements exist with the Supply Chain Canada which provides advanced standing in the Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP) designation program.
